Jesus Nazareno Asuncion "Tanggol" Montenegro is the titular main protagonist of FPJ's Batang Quiapo, and leader of his own gang in Quiapo, Manila.
He is portrayed by Coco Martin. who previously portrayed Juan Dela Cruz from the series with the same name, and Ador de Leon and Ricardo Dalisay from FPJ's Ang Probinsyano.
History[]
Season 1[]
He is born out of wedlock, with Marites being taken advantage of by Ramon during a gunfight in San Dimas. As a baby, Olga tried to take her away from his mother. Up to his transition into adulthood, he would always be hated by most of his family.
Season 2[]
His fight with another college student named JP would cause him to turn into a fugitive in this season, trying to look for jobs and change his life. Unfortunately, circumstances regarding his love interest, Mokang, would force him to go back to his old ways and ultimately, be arrested.
Season 3[]
In the third season of the TV series, he was recruited by Chief Espinas as an assassin in exchange of the lives of his own friends, if he refuses she would kill them. In the middle of the second season, he managed to save Mokang from Ramon but she was killed by Olga Montenegro.
Season 4[]
In the fourth season, Tanggol would try to start a clean life, following his acquittal. This season also introduces the Caballero family, which would be the main key to his success later on.
Season 5-6[]
In these seasons, Tanggol would once again turn to a criminal life after the tragedies that would befall him. He would soon rise and partner with Divina on many businesses, such as tackling with drugs using their drug lab in Pampanga, formerly owned by the Caballero family. Startling revelations also unfolded, as he discovers his true identity as a Montenegro.

Personality[]
Early on in the series, Tanggol is generally perceived as a troublemaker with no direction in life. Despite his harsh reality, he tries to stay strong and make up for his wrongdoings, such as when he cooked food for his stepfather, Rigor. He is also shown to be aware of his actions, as he teaches the kids he tried to adopt not to model after him.
The desire to help others manages to stay consistent with his character, such as the aid he gave to the people of San Dimas.
Regardless, his short temper is ultimately his biggest flaw as a character, making reckless decisions such as starting unnecessary fights despite prior advices from his friend, Enteng.
