Task Force 141, also known as The One-Four-One, are the main protagonists of the Call of Duty franchise's original Modern Warfare sub-series.
It's a multinational special operations unit formed after the Second Russian Civil War, and is made up of some of the best warriors across the planet. With the rising threat of the Russian Ultranationalist and the Inner Circle, 141 focuses on capturing or killing its leader Vladimir Makarov. During the Third World War, 141 is disavowed for killing General Shepherd for his betrayal until they clear their names for rescuing Boris Vorshevsky and his daughter Alena.
History[]
Formation[]
After Imran Zakhaev's death, General Shepherd and Special Air Service Sergeant John "Soap" MacTavish created a multi-national task force to deal with terroristic threats across the globe. Wanting the best warriors across the planet, Soap recruited numerous soldiers from each national military branches, which included MacTavish's fellow SAS officer and mentor John Price. Shepherd also recruited the best soldiers he could gather, most notably Simon "Ghost" Riley after the latter enacted his revenge against Manuel Roba.
Operation Kingfish[]
With the Russian Ultranationalist gaining more ground from their leader, dubbed "Kingfish", General Shepherd created a joint operation between 141 and Delta Force to capture or eliminate the terrorist leader. In Ukraine, Soap, Price, Ghost, Gary "Roach" Sanderson, Sandman and Derek "Frost" Westbrook infiltrate Makarov's compound to gather intel but find Makarov's plans to get revenge against them for Zakhaev's death. At that moment, the team are ambushed by Ultranationalist forces and are forced to escape from the area. After Soap is injured from a rocket blast, Price stays behind to allow his allies to escape, resulting in him being captured and sentenced to the Petropavlovsk Gulag. Following the operation, Soap became 141's field commander with Shepherd continuing to act as the unit's commanding officer.
Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare[]
Between 2013-2016, 141's sub-branch One-One Team were tasked with saving a high-valued target from the Russian Ultranationalists on a hijacked airplane. Despite the death of one of their members, the team was able to save the target and escape before the plane exploded.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2[]
In 2016, Soap and Roach are sent to the Kazakhstan's mountains to retrieve an ACS module the Russians are attempting to encrypt, and succeed in obtaining the device before escaping. In Afghanistan, Shepherd recruits Army Ranger Joseph Allen into 141 after proving his skills from the pit, but sends him to infiltrate the Inner Circle. After Makarov frames the United States for the Zakhaev Airport massacre, Shepherd tasks 141 with finding evidence as Russia is crying for war against the west. Receiving intel of an arms dealer Alejandro "The Red" Rojas that gave Makarov weapons, Soap leads a team in Brazil to capture him and his assistant for information. Due to Russia invading the United States, 141 is forced to contact Nikolai to escape from the favela since Shepherd was focused on the war effort.
Gathering intel that Makarov's most hated enemy is imprisoned in the Petropavlovsk gulag, 141 is assigned to rescue the prisoner before being redirected to rescue hostages from an oil rig. Once at the gulag, the team discover that the prisoner is Price, whom was believed to have been killed by the Ultranationalist during Operation Kingfish. Following the operation, Price is reinstated into the task force, but goes against Shepherd's wishes and launches a ICBM to destroy all electronic equipment in Washington, D.C. His actions proved fruitful in putting the war in America's favor, as the Army Rangers are able to push the Russian Army out of the White House before bombing run was commenced.
As the war effort continued, Shepherd sends 141 to two places Makarov could be hiding, with Price and Soap leading a team in Afghanistan as Ghost and Roach lead another team to a safehouse near the Georgian border. After not finding Makarov at the safehouse, Shepherd tasks the team with transferring intel onto a DSM and evacuate from the area. However, Shepherd kills Ghost and Roach once obtaining the DSM, betraying 141 and tasking Shadow Company with eliminating the others. Price and Soap escape with Nikolai's help, but the former learns of Shepherd's locations at Site Hotel Bravo to get revenge against the general. Once at the site, Price and Soap eliminate Shadow Company soldiers and confront Shepherd, whom is killed by the critically injured Soap by his own knife.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3[]
Due to Soap's injuries sustained from his fight with Shepherd, he was brought to the Loyalist safehouse in India to receive medical treatment. Disavowed for killing the general, Price decides to have the remnants of 141 join forces with the Loyalist under Nikolai's command to receive weaponry and equipment. When Makarov's forces arrive to eliminate them, Nikolai tasks Loyalist commander Yuri to assist Price in escaping from the safehouse with a wounded Soap. After extracting from India, 141 turns their attention to stop Makarov and his plans, such as searching for his cargo package in Sierra Leone. The team fail to stop the package from leaving, which is revealed to be chemical weapons that are released in London and Paris.
Following the release of the chemical weapons, Price contacts MacMillan for information about Makarov, learning that militia leader Waraabe was one to smuggle the cargo to the locations. 141 and the Loyalist commence an assault at the militia's compound, and gather intel from Waraabe of Makarov's bomb maker Viktor "Volk" Khristenko. After escaping from the area, Price gives Sandman intel about Volk and his location, allowing Delta Force and the GIGN to apprehend the bomb maker in Paris. Interrogated for information, Volk revealed Makarov's plans to meet with his top advisors in Prague, sending 141 to work with the Czech Resistance to assassinate the terrorist leader. However, Makarov was aware of their plans and set a trap of his own, resulting in Kamarov and Soap's deaths.
Later on, Price and Yuri infiltrate one of Makarov's strongholds to gather intel, and learn that he captured Russian President Boris Vorshevsky and his daughter Alena. Seeing an opportunity to end the war and have their names cleared, 141 performed a joint operation with Delta Force's Team Metal to rescue the Vorshevsky's from a diamond mine. The mission was a success despite the deaths of Team Metal, ending the war and clearing 141 for their previous actions. Still wanting to avenge the fallen, Price and Yuri commence an assault at Makarov's safehouse at Hotel Oasis, ending with Makarov being killed by Price.

Trivia[]
- The task force is referenced in the Ubisoft video game Far Cry 3, with Willis Huntley mentioning 141 in the mission "Fly South".
- In Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare, the Retribution's designation was created from the Russian Federation wanting to honor 141 for saving Boris Vorshevsky and his daughter. However, this is considered an easter egg rather than connecting the Modern Warfare sub series to Infinite Warfare.
