CT-9902 (Nicknamed "Tech") is one of the four tritagonists of the Bad Batch arc of Season 7 of Star Wars: The Clone Wars and one of the three titular tritagonists (alongside Echo and Crosshair) of its 2021 spin-off/sequel Disney+ series Star Wars: The Bad Batch.
Due to his genetic mutations, Tech had an aptitude for science and had incredible skills with technology, including engineering, decryption, recording and language translation.
He is voiced by Dee Bradly Baker, who also voices every other clone trooper in Star Wars animated media, Perry the Platypus in Phineas and Ferb, and Appa and Momo in Avatar: The Last Airbender.
History[]
The Clone Wars[]
Called in as reinforcements on Anaxes by Cody after having mastered an insurgency on Yalbec, the Bad Batch made a shattering entry into the base of operations where they are greeted by Cody, Rex, Jesse and Kix. As they made their way to the Cyber Center, slight tension between the Bad Batch and the standard clones they nicknamed 'Regs' began until Cody recalled the importance of the mission. Their transport is subsequently shot down in midair by the Separatist Droids. The Bad Batch then proceeds to take out enemy forces on the spot using their usual unorthodox methods before Wrecker rescues an injured Cody stuck under an Assault Gunship with superhuman strength. The next day, the clones managed to take control of the Cyber Center thanks to teamwork and the Bad Batch's usual methods.
Rex later launched a rescue mission to Skako Minor accompanied by General Anakin Skywalker and the Bad Batch in hopes of finding the Arc trooper Echo, who was believed to have died years earlier after information from Cyber Center hinted that he could be the famous Separatist Algorithm. Once on Skako Minor, they have a brief altercation with the Poletecs until the natives point out to them the Techno Union base in Purkoll. The group then entered Purkoll, confronting the D1 Battle Droids as they progressed. After arriving in the Algorithm room, they succeeded in rescuing Echo.
After escaping from the planet, the group joined the rest of the Republican forces on Anaxes to prepare a new attack against the separatists, now deprived of their Algorithm and with the help of Echo, who was able to keep several enemy plans, although the Bad Batch remained suspicious of him since the former Arc Trooper spent years under the control of the separatists. While Windu and Kenobi take care of the ground forces, Anakin, Rex and the Bad Batch infiltrate Admiral Trench's ship where they manage to retrieve the deactivation code for the bombs Trench was going to plant on Anaxes, whch also results in the death of Trench.
After the mission's success, the Bad Batch not only didn't give up on Echo, but also found that he was not that different from them now, offering him a place among them. Encouraged by Rex, Echo joins the squad of clones and before leaving, each member of the team respectfully greets Rex.
The Bad Batch[]
Sent to Kaller to lend a hand to Jedi General Depa Billapa, the Bad Batch meets Billapa's padawan, Caleb Dume, and follows him to the ongoing battle. With their unorthodox tactics, they manage to rout the battle droid squadron, with Wrecker knocking the tanks off a cliff in the process. After rendezvousing with Billapa, the Bad Batch sets out with Caleb to finish off the remaining droids until they witness, to their shock, the death of Billapa at the hands of her own clones. Caleb then flees into the forest in a shocked panic, while Tech reveals that the radio keeps repeating to execute Order 66. Tasked by Hunter to find out more about the order while he and Crosshair find Caleb, Tech quickly updates him with the details that the order is one to eliminate all Jedi due to them all being deemed traitors, something which makes little sense to him. Instead of following it, Hunter tries to calm down Caleb and assure him he's still on his side before lettign the latter escape.
The Bad Batch later returns to Kamino where after returning to their quarters, Crosshair reveals that Hunter lied about shooting Caleb. However, Tech quickly changing the subject by revealing that the clones have been programmed from childhood to follow any orders, but the deviant nature of the Bad Batch made them immune to this, explaining why while they were understandably uncomfortable with following the order, most of the other clones were so quick to turn on the Jedi despite faithfully following them for years. They subsequently witness Palpatine's announcement that the Republic is now the Galactic Empire, during which Hunter notices a young girl with the Kaminoans, which Tech, in turn notices, but Hunter dismisses it as nothing. After that, they meet the girl in person, who comes up to them and formerly introduces herself as Omega. She acts as Nala Se's medical assistant and admires Bad Batch to the point of standing up to and provoking a clone soldier shortly afterward in the dining hall for disrespecting them. Intrigued by the group of deviant clones, Admiral Tarkin gives them an aptitude test to assess their strength. Though they manage to succeed, they are still surprised that they test involved live rounds since that was never part of tests they took under the Republic. Tarkin then entrusts the Bad Batch with the mission of eliminating Separatist insurgents on Onderon.
There, they discover to their dismay that the insurgents are made up of former soldiers of the Republic, civilians and children guided by Saw Gerrera refusing imperial domination. Gerrera suggests that the clones choose between adapting and surviving or dying with the past before leaving. Returning to the ship, Tech witnesses the argument between Hunter and a Crosshair, who became partially loyal to the empire following Order 66, until Hunter destroys a probe droid sent by Tarkin for spies. Following the revelation that Omega is also a deviant clone, the Bad Batch decide to go back for her.
Unfortunately, they are captured upon their return to Kamino and accused of treason by Tarkin, then placed in detention where they find Omega there. During the time that Crosshair is brought to Tarkin, the rest of them come up with a plan to escape, with Tech advising Wrecker to smash down the ventilation access panel, allowing Omega to slip in and deactivate their cell once on the other side. The Bad Batch then retrieve their material in the hangar, but are unpleasantly surprised to find themselves confronted with shock troopers led by a Crosshair totally submitted to the Empire after Tarkin amplified his inhibitor chip. Though Wrecker takes a shot to the chest, the Bad Batch still manage to escape Kamino, becoming fugitives of the Empire.
Personality[]
Although generally coming off as introverted, Tech is very talkative and communicative; one of his major quirks was his eagerness to dispense trivial knowledge about any given subject without hesitation or reason, which could sometimes irritate his peers, particularly Wrecker. He is also extremely analytical and observant of his surroundings, to the extent he picks up on small details that others don't, which can lead him to not mentioning them to anyone else since he mistakenly assumes that they already noticed such things as well. By the same token, he is so focused on solid facts and practicality that he doesn't allow himself to get emotionally invested in things, including the Clone Wars themselves. This was particularly exemplified when Omega asked him what the war was like, to which he simply replied that it was a primary mission objective comprised of battles on various fronts, completely missing what she actually meant by the question. However, he's still caring in his own way since alongside the rest of his squad sans Crosshair, he was just as uncomfortable with the Republic's reformation into the Empire and refused to carry out immoral orders like harming, let alone killing unarmed civilians, and shortly after defected along with most of the rest of them. He is also just as defensive and protective towards Omega as Hunter, Wrecker and Echo are.
Tech is also very calm, non-confrontational and rarely, if ever, gets truly angry, though this doesn't stop him from occasionally getting slightly annoyed with his teammates from time-to-time, particularly Wrecker due to his reckless tedencies, which he usually expresses through passive-aggressiveness and sarcasm. Generally speaking though, alongside Hunter, he's civil and respectful even when interacting with regular clones during the Clone Wars (whom their squad generally had a strained relationship due to their uniqueness), in contrast to Wrecker and Crosshair, who were more argumentative and confrontational in their own respective ways.
Skills & abilities[]
- Enhanced Intelligence: Tech’s mutation is enhanced intelligence. His large deposit of technology and knowledge, even the most mundane bits, can be incredibly useful in the right situations, whether it be decrypting, hacking, making measurements on the fly for the other Batchers, translating alien languages, or recording animal cries. Tech quickly forge new chain codes for Cut and his family, despite only just learning them. Although his vast amount of knowledge and strategically-gifted mind are useless when he lacks any sort of information from past encounters to formulate a plan, which allows the Zygerians to get the drop on them while trying to rescue prisoners from them.
- Skilled Pilot: Thanks to his mutations, his keen mind allows him to pilot ships and speeders with superb skill. His first time participating in a Riot Race has him calmly lay out a strategy to win that relies completely on his piloting skills to use speed and precise timing in comparison to the brute force and dirty tricks of the other racers.
- Military Training: Trained since his creation, Tech is an expert in close quarters combat, a skilled shooter and an other tech.

Trivia[]
- So far, Tech is the only known clone to wear glasses.
- Out of all the Bad Batch members, Tech is only one who is pretty much always seen wearing his armor even after most of them defected from the Empire, since Hunter and Wrecker have worn civilian clothing on multiple occasions, Crosshair wears Imperial armor since staying with the newly formed Empire, and Echo sometimes wears a droid disguise.
- Even though Tech felt to his doom and confirm K.I.A., his body however was never found as his Goggles were the only thing Dr. Hemlock and his team found, claiming they were the only thing they found. Since the show ended, it is still unknown how Hemlock recovered Tech's goggles or what happen to his body.
