~ Teclis's procalamtion as the archmage of Ulthuan. |
Teclis is a major character in Warhammer Fantasy Battle and one of the main characters revolving the High Elf faction.
Teclis is a High Elf prince, descended from the legendary Phoenix King of Ulthuan, Aenarion. In keeping with his race's ancient and revered history surrounding their ties to magic and knowledge, Teclis would study and learn magic for many years, ultimately proving his worth in becoming the archmage of Ulthuan. Much like how his older twin brother, Tyrion would be seen as a celebrated warrior and general, Teclis would achieve similar fame as among the greatest mages the world had ever seen since Caledor Dragontamer, with very few being capable of matching Teclis's awesome magical might. In addition to his mastery in magecraft, Teclis would also be a seasoned planner and diplomat for the High Elves, seeking to try to find ways to better relations with other races and nations in the hopes of atoning the High Elves for their previous mistreatment and disdain towards other races.
In the Total War: Warhammer series, Teclis is voiced by Jason Anthony.
Personality[]
Compared to his older brother, Teclis was more of a maverick than his fellow High Elf compatriots. As a mage, Teclis possessed a level of insightfulness and would often contemplate about many subject matters during his spare time. Alongside his twin brother, he felt that as someone with a high position and reputation in Ulthuan, he had a responsibility to look after Ulthuan and ensure it's protection and prosperity, long after their golden age had passed.
Despite his sick and frail appearance, Teclis was very vocal and and determined for a man of his physical stature. Often times, he would snark and make subtle remarks about nearly everyone he would come across and he built himself a reputation of having ways solely with his words. With a sharp tongue and an even sharper wit, Teclis excelled as a diplomat and negotiator, yet even then, he would prefer doing something that he felt was right and justified, even if it meant going against the regulations and orders of his post.
Despite his snarky and seemingly cold exterior, Teclis held a great level of care, affection, and honor. As Tyrion loved his younger brother dearly in spite of their middling receptions and personal burdens, Teclis returned the favor and the two have been each other's closest confidants. Unlike his older brother, however, Teclis was mentally unburdened by Aenarion's curse, for he was instead affected by physical frailty, one that he compensated by stockpiling and drinking elixirs that granted him a healthy physique, if only for a limited time. Regardless, his ailment resulted in him having difficulties in sleeping and resting, resulting in Teclis becoming a night person during his childhood, making up his time in reading books and practicing the arcane arts of elven sorcery.
In contrast to most of his High Elven brethren, Teclis had an open level of admiration and respect towards other races, especially those of man. He quickly realized that men and elves were not so different from each other and acknowledged that there was more to man than the elves bothered to learn upon and Teclis found himself humbled that he and his kind could learn from mankind as much as man could learn from elves. As a result, the High Elf archmage came to see his race's view on man as an embarrassment and something that he was determined to correct one day.
Powers and Armaments[]
As the archmage of Ulthuan, Teclis was one of the most powerful, skilled, and insightful mages to have walked upon the world. Adding to thousands of years of experience and a high level of intelligence, Teclis was a smart and crafty fighter who would use whatever strategies necessary to pull a victory for his faction and he possessed a high level of morale that he imparted onto his army, having enough influence and inspiration to ensure his subordinates and followers maintain their loyalty to him. In the realms of sorcery, Teclis had no equal in skill, knowledge, and experience, and was a master in most forms of the Winds of Magic.
Despite his formidable might in magic, Teclis contrasted Tyrion in having a physically frail and sickly body, one in which he cannot properly walk around or perform everyday physical activities with. This is a symptom of the curse of Aenarion; where Tyrion inherited the mental side of this, Teclis contracted the physical side of the curse, a fact that he was all too aware of. He has tried to find a cure for this ailment, but the best he could manage is to craft a potion that would enhance his physical stature to at least keep him active long enough to foresee a battle from start to finish, though the effects of these potions are only temporary at best, forcing Teclis to spend a good deal of his time finding the right ingredients to craft said potions again.
As a participant of warfare and protection, Teclis carries a number of armament that he personally brings into battle...
- Sword of Teclis: A personalized blade forged by Teclis himself. It is imbued with powerful magic to compliment its user's talents in sorcery, emitting a crackling energy that rips apart any who meet the misfortune of being slashed by the blade
- Moon Staff of Lileath: Teclis's signature and most powerful weapon, a staff imbued with the essence and powers of Lileath, the Elven God of the Moon, Dreams, and Fortune. The staff has immense magical output and Teclis could use it to channel and use whatever magical spells he has at his disposal to great control and utility. With a god's essence, Teclis could also channel enough energy into it to unleash devastating incantations and incredibly powerful spells, though doing so leaves its user in a greatly weakened state.
- Scroll of Hoeth: A notable heirloom for the High Elves, Teclis carries this to provide extra support for his magical output. Namely, the scroll accelerates the recharging rate of Teclis's power, lessening the elf's burden of waiting for too long for his energy to be fully replenished.
- War Crown of Saphery: An heirloom of the kingdom of Saphery gifted to Teclis as a sign of good will, this crown projects respect and awe towards potential recruits as well as increasing the recovery time for Teclis to use his spells.
- Potions of Inner Strength: Tonics created by Teclis during his attempts to find a way to overcome the limitations of his frailty through the use of magic. These potions grant Teclis increased physique, allowing him to perform daily physical activities and performances for a limited amount of time. Teclis carries along with him two versions of these; Sariour which shines with a golden, sun-like color and Charoi which glows in a midnight-bluish hue,
