~ Testament |
Testament (テスタメント, Tesutamento) is a human-type Gear who is one of the major supporting characters in the Guilty Gear franchise. They are able to wield odd magic and fights with both a scythe and impressive moveset consisting of summons, as well as their unnamed crow familiar.
Testament was voiced by Yū Kobayashi in Japanese and Kayleigh McKee in English.
History[]
Once a normal human (Kliff's adopted son), Testament were turned into a Gear by the PWAB. In the first game they organize the first Sacred Knights tournament to lure worthy sacrifices for Justice's revival, but ended up becoming one themself. In X, they are revived due to Dizzy's influence as a commander Gear, and becomes her guardian until Johnny takes her in. After that they're pretty much Walking the Earth pondering if Humans Are the Real Monsters or not, a part of themself that didn't fade after Justice's death.
They've actually been relatively conspicuous in their absence in Xrd; while it's easy enough to imagine it's due to Dizzy finding happiness, it's unclear exactly what happened to them and even as of =REVELATOR=, the encyclopedia entry about them is vague on 2187 details and they aren't mentioned by the characters in the plot itself. It isn't until -STRIVE- that we finally learn what they've been up to. At some point after the events of X and XX, Testament stayed behind near the Forest of Demons, in the village where Dizzy was originally raised. Living among the residents there, including Dizzy's adoptive family, they steadily regained some of their lost humanity and idealism over the 5-year time skip. They now live a peaceful life with Dizzy's foster parents.
Personality[]
Prior to their Gear conversion, Testament was a diligent and curious individual who abhored violence. Especially fond of children, Testament had a philantropic side: they'd try to provide shelter for those who have lost their homes, and preferred to find ways to reform and educate those who fell from the righteous path rather than blame and condemn them for their crimes.
Kind and gentle, Testament was a noble soul who placed the needs of others before their own, wanted to protect the innocent—remembering their oath as a knight even decades later—, and dutifully wished to repay Kliff for his kindness. Yet, the forced conversion caused Testament to become extremely distrustful of humans and cynical. The annihilation of mankind, however, is not something they truly desire. Kliff attributed such madness to whatever Testament saw during the war, all the bloodshed, but it was a command forcibly planted by Justice. Because Testament had a strong will, emotional fortitude, and great love for Kliff, they were semi-independent from her orders, retaining their consciousness and memory but unable to disobey.
Abilities[]
Originally, Testament joined the Sacred Order of Holy Knights, presumably learning the knights' techniques to combat Gears. After being converted into a Gear themself, Testament gained the abilities associated to these creatures: senses, healing and physical strength that surpass by far the average of a normal human's, and was rendered ageless. They are one of the few human-type Gears, and one of a small number who managed to remain self-aware after the injection of Gear cells; even under Justice's control, Testament was a semi-independent Gear due to their powerful force of will and emotional fortitude.
