Thạch Sanh is the main protagonist of the fairytale The Story of Thạch Sanh. He is Lý Thông's former adoptive younger brother.

Biography[]

Thạch Sanh was actually an angel from heaven sends to the Earth to become the son of an old couple due to their kind and generous nature. When they died,they left their only fortune: an axe. And Thạch Sanh use the axe to chopping wood and feed himself. One day, there's an cabaret man named Lý Thông came and adopt Thạch Sanh as his younger brother. Due to being orphaned, Thạch Sanh agreed, unbeknowning that this is just Lý Thông's hypocrital acts due to Thạch Sanh's incredible strength benefit him.

In Lý Thông's homeland, there's an ogre that invaded the land and began to devour people. The army were sent to defeat it but they failed. This caused the villagers to build an temple to worship it and sacrifice one person for it to eat every year so it won't cause destruction, and Lý Thông was selected to be the victim this year. When Thạch Sanh returned from work, Lý Thông offering him a meal and ask Thạch Sanh to guard the temple for him. Thạch Sanh agreed, not known that this is just a trick Lý Thông made so Thạch Sanh would die for him. However, with his incredible skills, Thạch Sanh defeated the ogre (which later revealed itself to be a giant python) and chopped off its head,as well as collecting the golden bow next to its dead body. When Thạch Sanh returned with the beast's head, Lý Thông telling him that the python was the King's pet and he will be executed for killing it. Due to this, Thạch Sanh ran away, not known that this is another trick made by Lý Thông to steal his achievement. Lý Thông submitted the beast's head to King Hùng and was honored by the King and made admiral.

The King has a daughter in her marrying age. They made a ceremony, where the princess will stand on top of a high pole and throw a cotton ball, and anyone below catch it will be her new husband. Before the princess could throw the ball, an eagle kidnapped her, causing the King to order Lý Thông to save her with the promise of let him marry the princess and pass the throne. Lý Thông decided to ask Thạch Sanh to help, which Thạch Sanh agreed by telling him where's the eagle lair. Thạch Sanh fought the eagle while Lý Thông saved the princess. Lý Thông then betrayed Thạch Sanh by ordering soldiers to blocks the cave entrance with rock in hope for killing Thạch Sanh.

Thạch Sanh tried to find a way to get out,and he found an cage with a young man trapped inside. He used his golden bow to destroy it, and the man was King Shui Qi's son. The man thanks Thạch Sanh by inviting him to his kingdom. When Thạch Sanh leaves, King Shui Qi offering him various treasure but he rejected, and only asks for a guitar. Thạch Sanh then return to his home.

The two animals that were previously killed by Thạch Sanh have a deep hatred on him so their soul decided to team up for a revenge. They steal the King's treasure and put it as Thạch Sanh's home to made it look likes Thạch Sanh stealed it. Thạch Sanh were later arrested.

Due to Lý Thông's act, the princess had a illness where she could not speak or laugh. Many doctors and wizards were invited to treat her illness, but they failed. Thạch Sanh trapped in a dungeon one day decided to play his guitar and when he do it, the princess was treated from her illness. The King then asked Thạch Sanh to explain everything, and Thạch Sanh exposed all of Lý Thông's villainous acts. The King arrested Lý Thông and his mother and let Thạch Sanh decide their fate. Thạch Sanh decided to let them live and return to their homeland, but they were struck by lightning on their way home and reincarnated to a beetle.

Thạch Sanh then marry the princess and the wedding was the biggest ceremony of all. This caused the princes of the 18 vassal countries to feel jealous, and they rallying their force for an invasion. The King then rallying his as well, but Thạch Sanh tell him not to and instead take his guitar and play it in front of the enemy. When the enemy listen to his guitar, their body were weakened and their mind cannot think about the war anymore. Finally, the enemy surrender. Thạch Sanh then ordered his army to offer them a meal. All of them were surprised when the soldier only bring out a small rice pod, so small that they didn't even want to eat. Knowing what they want, Thạch Sanh challenged them to eat all the rice pod and promise to reward anyone succeeded. The enemy eat the rice pod, but it keeps replenish itself whenever they eat it. They bow to Thạch Sanh due to his power and retreat to their homeland.

Thạch Sanh were later pass the throne by King Hùng due to the King having no son.
