The Ancient One, called also the Young One, is a major character in the 2003 version of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.
He is an old ninjutsu master who adopted and taught Hamato Yoshi and Yukio Mashimi.
He was voiced by David Chen.
History[]
After the Second World War, orphaned children in Japan went from house to house begging. Hamato Yoshi and Yukio Mashimi found a coin that fell from the Ancestor's pocket, Mashimi wanted to keep it but Yoshi returned the coin out of kindness. The Ancestor said that he could keep it if he managed to snatch it from his hand: Mashimi failed, but Yoshi succeeded. The Ancestor adopted them both, and then did the same with another little girl called Tang Shen, with whom both boys fell in love, and she had feelings for only one.
Once they became men and defeated the Foot Clan, the Ancestor forbade them to become guardians because they needed mental training. The Ancient One went with Yoshi to ask the Ninja Tribunal to ally with the Utroms against the impostor Utrom Shredder but the latter refused as he was not the real Shredder, ignoring the possibility that Ch'rell might challenge his namesake.
However, on the night of the tragic event everything ended.
The Ancient One is also seen in the series finale at April and Casey's wedding.
Personality[]
While he significantly softens up in the fifth season (due to the Tribunal generally being massive jerks), the Ancient One is a bit rough and very blunt, with at least one of his lessons almost getting Leonardo killed, and at one point smacks him over the head for being too long-winded about his troubles. Outside of this, he's a helpful teacher, and he does enjoy Leonardo's company.
