The Beholder is the deuteragonist for the first two seasons of the anime and manga series To Your Eternity. An all-powerful entity, he is the creator of the universe, and primarily watched over the world for billions of years before deciding to leave it to someone else, in deciding to do so, he created Fushi, an infinitely evolving entity made to preserve the world in his place, but to make sure he would not be confused on his nature, accompanied Fushi throughout his journey, though never fighting for him or interfering in his battles, he was a somewhat summonable source of information for Fushi.

Personality[]

The Behodler at first had shown a bland and nihilistic personality, only deciding to aid Fushi and his friends as long as it would contribute to the evolution of his creations

Biography[]

Beginnings[]

The Beholder always was, as a sense as he never really started to exist he simply did. The Beholder was a being of an unknown race who always existed, though they did not know what was or wasnt, they simply had the sense that they existed. The Beholder was not the only one, there were other beings, and eventually they later learned to entertain themselves by transmuting thoughts into reality, but not simply on an ordinary scale, it got to a scale of true omnipotence where they had no limits on what they could do, they could warp the reality on an extreme level, allowing them to embody absolutely everything, manipulate their own forms, and even create cosmic energy out of nothing, even stating that the definition of "impossibly" did not apply to them in any way. Aside that, the beings were also eternal and ageless, they had existed for an infinite amount of time and seemingly transcends the common concept of time we see.

And as the Beholder stated that multiple eternities had passed in that void. One day, the Beholder was exploring more of his powers, creating beings made out of cosmic energy, and reforming a body for himself, he later realized that he had grown bored with everything, he could be and was everywhere, he could do absolutely anything he desired to no limit, he had knowledge of everything in existence, and could even defy the concept of eternity as he could live forever and exists infinitely in age, though he felt confused, though he knew what everything was, he himself deducted that after the time spent in the void, he was fed up with it, and with it he started a new project.

Within an unknown amount of time (most likely instantly) he created the universe, a piece of eternally evolving space that could keep going forever, the universe was made from a fragment of himself, to ensure that he had absolute control over it. In the world he created, he mainly had his sights set on the planet Earth, and what he put in it. In the universe that he created, he essentially lost his omnipotence, omniscience, and omnipresence. And though he was still the most powerful being in existence (in his own right, within his expanded universe) and could do many things that would put him on a godlike scale.

However there were some things he could not do, for example he knew the fundamentals of the universe (as he created it) and the humans who resided in Earth, but due to its evolution, he could no longer be considered omniscient, for example: He has limits such as being unable to control minds, manipulating Fye (Spiritual Energy) to its fullest extent, he had no idea Paradise existed, and has limited control over it, and he could not understand the true extent of his creations (including Fushi) though before that, over the eons upon eons watching Earth, he embodied the concepts of it, he embodied the rain and caused it to pour down, the natural disasters to occur, and so much more.

Later on, he eventually watched the humans more closely, learning of the concept of death, something he was indirectly responsible for creating; later on he searched more into this and discovered the empathy and sadness the humans had for each other and the deaths of said people, though he did not understand this, he felt a sense of intense fascination and beauty from it, envying the love and care that humans gave to each other.

Finally deciding to create someone in his stead, he created the Earthenware people, nigh-mute human like entities who communicated with pots made of mud and mental projections via said pot, to experiment he placed some information into the pots for them to try to comprehend, but to no evil, as they were not as fully capable as humans were, despite being very similar to humans. And though they were somewhat useful for some while, most of them eventually died of old age, and the Beholder decided he needed to make something new.

Finally coming to a decision, he created an orb that had no soul, preventing them from traveling to paradise, having their life located into a near infinite amount of dimensions above the mortal comprehension, someone who could mimic stimuli, forms, and emotions and could grow a consciousness, someone who their acquired forms could always heal, and could never die of old age "A being of flesh that surpassed any other, Fushi" and upon creating him, he then created a hood made from the energy of the universe he created to cover him around in his new form, and enter his creations, limiting his powers to things that I have listed above.

Medieval Arc[]

The Beholder follows Fushi throughout the Past Arc, not directly interfering but explaining the nature of things to Fushi, he commonly only lets himself be seen by Fushi as a result, and never interferes with a fight, however he does take some counter measures, such as when Pioran was about to die and called out to him, she requested to be reborn into something to be useful to Fushi, which he decided to accept seeing as Fushi needed someone similar to him to fight of the Nokkes, letting her be reborn into a nigh-immortal horse with immense durability, which still mortal, served as a very useful ally for Fushi when he introduced him to her in season 2, though Pioran lost her memories and original fye after being reborn.

Before the battle of Renril, The Beholder was revealed to have refrained from telling Fushi he had the ability to resurrect others due to he interference with their Fye, and was later summoned by Bon, Messar, and Hairo which he went to explain that he wasn't what Fushi's companions thought he was, (those being a Demon, the Devil, and a Spirit) and went on to explain what he planned to do, and how he wished to have Fushi replace him after he remakes himself, enraged at this Messar attempted to kill the Beholder by stabbing him, however nothing happened as like Fushi, the Beholder too was immortal, he later telikinetically pushed Messar back and crushed the sword that he was attacked with, and later disappeared feeling disappointed in them for attacking him.

After the battle of Renril where Fushi defeats the Nokkers, and decided to extend his roots throughout the entire planet (via the power of Territory Dominion, and the extension of himself to the objects he replicated) and silently watched Fushi fight off the remainder of the Nokkers for 600 years, and waited until Fushi awoke once more in the Modern Arc.

Modern Arc[]

The Beholder finds Fushi after he had extended his roots from the great tree, and teleported to a cliff, the Beholder later finds him and congratulates him for defeating every Nokker, and seeing that Fushi was stuck to the rope that he had attached to control the roots, bestowed Fushi with the power of "Reconnection" which allowed him to disconnect and reconnect from the roots at will, without having to spread them again for another 600 years, but due to this, the Beholder's physical body could no longer be connected from the surface from a higher dimension, and his physical body was erased from existence.

When Fushi constantly called out to the Beholder he was no longer there due to the transference in his power to Fushi, though unknown to Fushi, he later finds a Nokker (despite thinking they were extinct) inside of a girl named Mimori and tried to kill her, however her adoptive older sibling named Hirotashi stepped in and prevented it, though when he took the Mimori, he almost got hit by a car before an unknown boy managed to freeze time, however Fushi was the only one conscious and able to see what was happening, though he was unable to move, the unknown boy simply told Fushi to forget what he saw and created rope out of hind and dragged the two home.

When Fushi and Bon search for this boy, they come to an orphanage where they find the boy that had stopped time who was called Satoru, but was quickly revealed to be the Beholder, and later on they meet at a diner where The Beholder explained that the people who were controlling Mimori and other bodies were really Nokkers, he would begin to explain that after Fushi destroyed every Nokker on the surface, the Nokkers simply resssurected again at a near-subatomic level to be undetectable to Fushi, then finding there way into a human body, they would sometimes control them; though after they died the Nokker would have full control over their body. He would also explain that one his his foster siblings Michi was fully submerged with a Nokker, as when she was a child a Nokker entered her body, though not known to Michi herself, Michi also had a great sickness that caused her to die at a young age, but the Nokker instantly took control of the body once the real Michi died, making it seem that she died only for a brief moment. Later on Michi would become fond of the love and care that was given to them, and eventually became too scared of her family being figuring out who they really were, so the Beholder insisted Fushi did not kill them.

The Beholder later explained that in his reincarnated in his new form, his powers were growing ever weaker by the day, and that all of his memories, powers, and the existence of his cosmic self would be completely erased once he reached the age of 15, and he would be fully human with artificial fye in his new body. It was later explained by Sumika that Satoru was first found near an alleyway standing silently in the rain, seemingly not answering any of the questions she asked him, and later decided to take him into the foster family/

The Beholder (or Satoru) would appear once more after a Nokker tried to assassinate him in the foster house, but this was a failed attempt, when the Nokker of Funa a high-school girl tried to kill him, the Beholder simply froze all time around him; albeit but the Nokker was somehow conscious, Satoru telikinically grabbed her weapon and transformed it into a large amount of pure energy shaped like a bird, then dispersed it, then he manipulated the body of Funa to turn her into a flower and then later burned her core. When Fushi inquired about why he finally decided to fight back against the Nokkers he simply stated that he was defending himself, but stated that he could destroy all the Nokkers if Fushi wanted him to, but explained to him that that would not satisfy Fushi, and they would simply ressurect again later, Fushi enraged by this storms off feeling annoyed by the fact that he was willing to accept defeat on both of their parts when he was constantly forced to fight them, (though he did still want to protect others, and still chooses to do so) and that the Beholder was responsible for putting him in this situation, though Satoru would go on to explain nothing.

Later on after Tonari gets infected by a Nokker, he would appear after sensing the students of Minamoto Junior High, and some of Fushi's allies in danger (though Fushi not there as he was currently trying to save the Occult Club Members at the lair of the Nokkers and the Guardians) after Tonari is about to infect them, Satoru freezes time around the Nokkers and arrives to the area, created a ladder out of thin air, and climbs up deciding weather to kill Tonari and the Nokker infecting an alternate body of Fushi (not while Fushi was in it himself, and not the one he was in at that time) or not, but decides to spare them, undoing the infection on Tonari and place the core of the Nokker possessing the alternate body of Fushi in a pot and decides to leave.

The Beholder is sitting in the park with Fushi where he begins to explain that Fushi must acquire him, not knowing what this means, Fushi begins to question what he is talking about; which Satoru begins to explain that he was going to transfer all of his abilities to Fushi, and that is what he was made for; however he states that he only planned to give Fushi his powers now, because if he would have gained Omnipotence from the start, there would be no one to help him grow and evolve into a better caring person. the Beholder then explains the nature of matter and Fye in the universe and in paradise, but before he could comprehend it; Fushi fainted from trying to process what the Beholder was saying, and what that meant for him.

Years later, Fushi eventually declined the powers which Satoru respectfully agreed also explaining that over time he had also lost his power to manipulate bodied or high amounts of matter, and there was little power left, and on the day of his birthday he left Fushi with a minority of his memories into an Earthenware Pot, and decided to leave him alone fully. Near the end of the party, Satoru would reflect on his memories as the Beholder, remembering his time with Fushi and for the last time, in one of his memories shows a happy smile, then his powers, memories, and entire existence was erased, leaving only Satoru.

Powers and Abilities[]

  • Omnipotence: The Beholder is all-powerful, though upon entering his creation he lost some aspects of his omnipotence, he was still the most powerful being in the series that beings from Paradise such as the Nokkers could not even touch him, he can interfere with and manipulate essentially any external force he desired and interfere with the process of the Transcendance of the Fye from the bodies of mortal beings (aka Death) he was also capable of placing Fushi's life countless dimensions above, allow him to live without a soul, and make death a simple change of state to hom, and he can also manipulate any force on Earth from any place and sense everything by extending his presence across creation, though he lost this ability after giving it to Fushi; albeit he could only do it through roots, and only extending to Earth.
  • Physical Godhood: The Beholder is an omnipotent being, and is such comparable to the beliefs of God, which like that he created the universe, can control all of creation, and stands above all others, though he is not someone from a religious source, but simply a sensation that brought fourth all of creation.
  • Matter Manipulation & Transmutation: The Beholders second most prominent ability (other than his Omnipotence) is the ability to control matter on a godlike extend, which he has absolute dominance over, matter was created by the Beholder, and was made to be the absolute source of nearly everything in the universe, even being stated to be stronger than Fye (spiritual energy) from Paradise, and is able to create anything he desired for nothing, can reshape all of creation, and even create another universe (most likely an infinite amount) and was also stated to be able to grant any wish from the orb in the Future Arc. He can even do casual acts, such as when Messar stabbed him he telikinetically pushed him back without even moving and was able to take the sword that entered through his chest and crush it, he also stopped a near-nokker possessed Funa from assassinating by ceasing the movement of her body completely and froze them in midair, he then transmuted their weapon into a bird made out of pure energy, turned her into a flower and destroyed her core
  • Time Manipulation: Even without matter manipulation, the Beholder was shown to be able to pause and manipulate time at will, he managed to stop everything around him during a Nokker attack to give Fushi advice, at the end of the Medieval Arc, he froze everyone around him, though unlike his matter manipulation, he also froze their minds so they were not conscious, in the Modern Arc he managed to stop a Nokker controlled Tonari and an alternate infected corpse of Fushi (not while Fushi was in the body) and was able to easily contain the two Nokkers briefly after.
  • Cosmic Awareness: He has almost infinite Cosmic Knowledge making him nigh-omniscient in essence, he knew almost everything in the universe, was capable of manipulating forces beyond himself with his own understandings, and can interfere with death and the world of PAradise itself, though there are few things he does not know; he isnt a figure of infinite knowledge as his own mindset is a set of perspective that can only understand so much.
  • Immortality: In his true form, he is absolutely eternal and unkillable as he isn't a truly corporeal entity, but rather one that can negate existence, but in his physical form, he is only just so in physicality, unlike Fushi, the Beholder does not fully regenerate as there is no way to absolutely destroy his body, though he can be stabbed, he is very durable and sturdy and wont affect him at all or cause any real damage to him, and in the Modern Arc, he states that as long as someone the Nokkers (and most likely everyone else) have a physical body, they are incapable of harming him, though this is somewhat controversial as when he reincarnated as Satoru he was able to be hurt by Fushi when he was enraged, and almost got his head split open, though the reason why he is more vulnerable at that time, then the later statement is unknown.
  • Self-Corporeality Negation: The Beholder can manipulate their own corporeality in their physical form, they can only be seen by Fushi or anyone else he allows, he is able to teleport and levitate in his form, he is fully intangible and is essentially omnipresent using "Territory Dominion" and can teleport anywhere, though after giving the power of "Reconnection" to Fushi, he was disconnected from the surface of his body; which after reincarnating into Satoru he could no longer become incorporeal.
  • Spiritual Energy Manipulation: Like Fushi, the Beholder has the ability to manipulate fye, the energy in all living lifeforms. He can presumably do everything Fushi can do with this ability, but the Beholder has shown more complex feats like taking and reshaping the Fye of Pioran to be reincarnated into a horse that was later named Meiran, and was able to completely reform a portion of paradise to do so.
  • Dimensional Manipulation: He is seemingly able to manipulate any dimension, though the only known dimensions he fully can control are the universe, and the void where he and his siblings resided in, though he can control parts of Paradise, he cannot control it fully due to the fact that it was not fully apart of his project when creating the universe, though he is still the only known being in the series that can control Paradise (excluding his siblings, though they are irrelevant here) and was able to reform and transmute spiritual energy into things, as he did to create the orb, though Fushi himself does not have a soul.
  • Absolute Subjective Reality (True Form Only): The Beholder has infinite power in his true form, all limits above are irrelevant as he states that in his true form he was truly omnipotent and could do anything he wanted, he could think and erase an infinite amount of things into existence, create a celestial body out of nothing and for a brief while before fully entering his creation, he sat in what can only be assumed to be a workshop toying with reality and the surface of the universe and all of creation like a board game, placing things like Fushi into that universe son after, but before that he embodied the literal concepts making up the Earth and beyond, and doing things like being the weather and watching the universe (mainly Earth) until eventually deciding to enter the realm he created, albeit losing his Omnipotence once he enters, which he did, limiting his power quite a bit, however he is still the most powerful character in the known series (once more excluding his siblings) and is essentially a god, though he is not treated or worshipped as such as his existence is only known by few, and has not shown such physique worth such praise to other characters.
