The Birch is the titular character as well as the anti-heroine of The Birch, one of the anthology horror shorts by CryptTV. A powerful nature demon, The Birch is summoned by the creation and destruction of a ritualistic talisman from birch wood, which can be found on a specific tree in the woods. She is sought out by a young man named Shaun, who seeks refuge from his bully, and is summoned when the bully breaks her talisman.

She is portrayed by Dee Sherwood Wallace.

Biography[]

The Birch is a sentient tree capable of being summoned through a spellbound book, and upon being summoned, will supposedly "protect" the one who brought them into this world. During The Birch, she is summoned by a bullied schoolboy named Kris to protect him from his personal tormentor.

Appearance[]

The Birch is a humanoid being that stands eight feet tall. As her name suggests, her body is made of birch wood. The upper half of her head ascends into a "crown" of large branches wrapped with vines reminiscent of horns. She has no legs, but has long fingers made of branches and twigs. She has a skeletal face, deep soulless eyes, and crooked teeth.

Personality[]

While she may be a monster, The Birch still has the sole goal of protecting the one who summons it, and nothing more. She just so happens that said way of protection tends to involve murder. In "Brute vs Birch", she is entirely heroic, as she's pitted against a genuinely monstrous, evil creature and protects the narrator from the Brute and ultimately defeats it by knocking it back into the door and allowing it to be sealed away again. Compared to the other "divine creatures of darkness", The Birch is by far the most benevolent, to the point of being summoned to fight other monsters like The Brute. She also needs to be deliberately summoned, unlike the others who usually show up spontaneously.
