Hit it.
~ Joliet Jake Blues

Jake and Elwood Blues are the main protagonists of the 1980 American musical comedy film The Blues Brothers. They were played by the late John Belushi and Dan Aykroyd respectively.

In 1980[]

During the film, they decide to reunite their bluesy R&B band "The Blues Brothers" to save the Catholic orphanage in which they were raised from foreclosure. They then have to organize a performance to earn $5,000 needed to pay the orphanage's property tax bill.

Along the way, they are targeted by a homicidal "mystery woman", Neo-Nazis, and a country and western band—all while being relentlessly pursued by the police.

1998[]

The now-brotherless Ellwood Blues (Dan Aykroyd) is finally out of prison after Jake has died, attempting to reunite the old band and find a few new partners in crime (John Goodman), (J. Evan Bonifant). In this sequel to the original "Blues Brothers" comedy/musical, Ellwood battles the Chicago police, sings and dances his way out of numerous sticky situations, and manages to get the old band on the road for a hair-raising adventure.

Appearance[]

They both wear black suits with ties, hats, shoes, and sunglasses. The only items they also wear are their white shirts. Jake has socks where Elwood has white socks underneath his shoes.

They also have their first name tattooed across their knuckles, with Elwood's spanning both hands being six letters as opposed to Jake's four fingers.

Jake is the short fat one and Elwood is the tall one.

Personality[]

The duo are both known for being inspirational with their "cool, calm, and collected" attitudes that makes them nonchalant and suave.

They both have comedic traits such as Jake is being the hammy fat guy with a die-hard love for fried chicken and Coca Cola meanwhile Elwood is more serious tall guy between the two despite being the most talkative, loves having dry white toast and was willing to drive through a mall before getting violations for it.

Despite having a noble goal with raising money to a orphanage, they both can be suave, sly, weaselly and extremely deceptive, such as Jake telling the Penguin he'd see her the day he got out of the joint, but didn't attend to keep that promise, and Elwood being such a pragmatist that he would be more than willing to lie, cheat, steal, recklessly endanger people with his driving, but he won't lie to a nun.

Trivia[]

  • Elwood is the only character of the original duo to be alive as his brother, Jake passed away between the events of the first movie and the sequel.
