The Candle Maker is one of the two overarching protagonists (alongside La Muerte) in the 20th Century Fox and Reel FX Animation Studios' 2014 computer-animated feature film The Book of Life.
He is a benevolent deity, whose job is to maintain balance within the Candles of Life that embody each and every living being's life and time on Earth. He makes home within the Cave of Souls, the link between the two realms of the Land of the Remembered and the Land of the Forgotten.
He was voiced by rapper Ice Cube, who also portrayed Craig Jones in the Friday film series, Joseph Bowman in Call of Duty: Black Ops, and Captain Dickson in the 21 Jump Street series.
Personality[]
He is known to be a very amicable and cheerful deity, as he tends to show an indicated friendship towards both watchers of the realms La Muerte and Xibalba. In addition to other deities, he is also very kind towards Manolo, the determined protagonist seeking to be with his love interest Maria.
While he usually tends to stay loyal to the respective watchers of the realms, he is willing to break their orders to maintain balance, or even to help his friends.
