A previously unknown incarnation of The Doctor appeared as a recurring character in Doctor Who: Series 12. Existing at an unknown point in the Doctor's life, to hide from her Time Lord employers, she took on the identity of ordinary human Ruth Clayton

She is portrayed by Jo Martin.

History

At some point, the Doctor was forced to work as an enforcer for the Time Lords. During this time, she became acquainted with Gat. Described as a job " you can never leave", the Doctor found her escape attempts fruitless. Eventually, she hit upon a plan to hide as a human with a Chameleon Arch. Esacping Gallifrey, stealing one of Gat's guns, along with her companion "Lee", she underwent the procedure, becoming Ruth Clayton, with Lee acting as her husband.T aking up residence in Gloucester, Ruth Clayton made a living as a self-employed tour guide. She believed herself to be a 43-year-old human, and remembered being brought up by her parents in a disused lighthouse.
