~ The Elder as the Celestial Elves prepare to take off their blindfolds and see the sky again. |
The Elder is a supporting character in the Netflix animated series The Dragon Prince. He is the leader of the Celestial Elves, a group of Skywing Elves that live in the Star Scraper. Being the only living Celestial Elves to have ever taken off his blindfold, he hopes for the Chosen Two's arival to the Star Scraper to defeat Esmery, the being who was causing snow storms in the area near them, and thus ending up making them unable to see if it is a moonless night or not, so through slaying Esmery, the Celestial Elves would be allowed to take off their blindfolds.
He is voiced by Mark Gibbon.
History[]
Background[]
Little is known about the Elder's past, other than he is hundreds of years old and was born during the reign of the archdragon Luna Tenebris. As a child, he was able to take off the blindfold he wore during a moonless night as dictated by Celestial Elf culture. However, he wasn't able to do it again for centuries as Esmeray, devestated by the death of its master, caused a storm that prevented the skies in the region of the Starscraper from being clear.
At some point, a timeblind Celestial Elf foretold that Esmeray's heart would be pierced by a warrior and a mage and thus the mealt its threat, with them being given the Corona of the Heavens, an artifact that cointains the three quasar diamons, being the only of their kind. The Elder would become the leader of the Celestial Elves, and for hundreds of years hoped to find the Chosen Two so his kind could take off their blindfolds and see again.
The Dragon Prince[]
The Elder, alongside all the Celestial Elves, meet Rayla and Callum after they are able to use a levetating platform to get to the Starscraper. He then asks if they are the Chosen Two, and when Callum says that they aren't, the Elder deactivated the floating platform and made them start to fall. Before they fell on the ground, however, they were able to reactivate the platform, with two other Celestial Elves, Kosmo and Astrid, saving Rayla's cuddlemonkey Stella as well as grabbing Aaravos' pearl before it could fall on the ground.
Astrid and Kosmo allowed Rayla and Callum to stay in the Starscraper for the night, but after seeing that they looked exactly like the prophecy said the Chosen Two looked like, they brought them back to the Elder. There, he asked if they were going to clear the skies, only for Callum and Rayla to ask him for the Novablade first so they can be able to kill Aaravos if necessary.
The Elder explains that the Novablade was given to a human warrior hundreds of years ago, and affirms that even if they had the Novablade, killing Aaravos would be impossible, as Startouch Elves will be sent back to the stars where they materialize a physical form when the old one is destroyed. After this, he, alongside Kosmo and Astrid, explain to Callum that they must slay the creature causing the storms in the area where the Skyscaper is located so the Celestial Elves can take off their blindfolds once more.
After Rayla was able to calm down the creature, which was actually the pet animal of the late Luna Tenebris, the storms stopped. In the Starscraper, the Elder thanks Callum and Rayla and gives them the Corona of the Heavens. He and the other Celestial Elves then go to the top of the Starscraper and take off their blindfolds, with the Elder looking with pride when he sees Kosmo becoming timeblind.
The next day, Rayla and Callum gave him and the Celestial Elves what they thought was the pearl of Aaravos so they could keep it protected, unaware that it was actually a giant piece of candy made by Barius which Aaravos had switched with the real pearl while possessing Callum.
Personality[]
The Elder is a calm and wise being who wishes for him and his kind to be able to see again, having never taken his blindfold since he was a child and being to only Celestial Elf alive to have done so. He is not tolerant over disapontments, as when he found out Callum and Rayla weren't the Chosen Two, he deactivated the structure holding them to make them fall off the Starscraper, uncaring if it put their lives in danger.
Despite this, the Elder is an honorable individual, as he kept the word of the prophecy by giving Callum and Rayla the Corona of the Heavens after they had stopped Esmeray and ended the storm that had prevented the Celestial Elves from having clear moonless nights. He also holds great value in the members of his kind, as he was filled with pride when he saw Kosmo becoming timeblind.
