Bartholomew "Barry" Allen, better known as The Flash, is the overarching protagonist of the DC Animated Movie Universe; serving as the main protagonist of Justice League: The Flashpoint Paradox, one of the tritagonists of Justice League: War and Justice League: Throne of Atlantis, a supporting character in Justice League vs. Teen Titans, The Death of Superman and Reign of the Supermen, a major character in Justice League Dark: Apokolips War.

He was voiced by Justin Chambers and Christopher Gorham, and as a child by Grey DeLisle.

History[]

Justice League: The Flashpoint Paradox[]

Barry Allen was a young man raised by his mother Nora, who became an orphan when his mother was murdered at his home on her birthday. Years later, even after becoming the superhero known as the Flash, Barry still mourned for the death of his mother and wished that he could change things so that his mother would still be alive.

In the present day of the original timeline, Barry dealt with Eobard Thawne, the Reverse Flash, and the members of his Rogues Gallery as they infiltrated the Flash Museum to cause trouble and for the Reverse Flash to set up bombs that would destroy the Flash along with the Museum. Superman, Batman, Green Lantern, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Captain Atom, and Cyborg showed up to help destroy the bombs before they detonated and to bring the criminals to justice. After the Reverse Flash and the Rogues Gallery members were apprehended, Barry ran off to do something.

The following day, Barry woke up in front of his computer in the police station to find out things have changed, that a superpowered being known as Citizen Cold is on the loose. As Barry tried to run off to deal with it as the Flash, he realized that he neither had his Flash ring on hand nor his superspeed powers, and thus fell down a flight of stairs. He soon found out that his mother Nora was still alive and was waiting for him to take her out for dinner on her birthday. His next revelation was that his wife Iris West was now married to someone else and had a daughter through her husband.

Realizing that he must be in a different timeline, Barry went to Gotham City to seek out Bruce Wayne as the Batman. Instead, he encountered Thomas Wayne, Bruce's father, who in this new timeline lost his son Bruce to a murderer and his wife Martha to insanity, and thus became the superhero known as Batman. When trying to explain what he was doing in the Batcave, Barry had the Flash ring drop out of his pocket when Thomas pushed Barry around. Barry opened the ring, hoping to prove to Thomas the truth of his claim that he was the Flash and came from a different timeline, and instead got the costume of the Reverse Flash coming out.

Though Thomas had difficulty believing Barry, he nonetheless helped in trying to restore Barry's superspeed powers by recreating the same accident with lightning and chemicals that gave him the powers in the first place. Unfortunately, in the first attempt to do so, Barry suffered third-degree burns and had to be treated for them by Thomas, who managed to save Barry before he burned to death. During his recovery, Barry saw memories of events that have happened in the new timeline and realizes that he is beginning to lose the memories of the original timeline. Thomas and Barry attempted again to restore Barry's superspeed powers by recreating the same experiment, and this time was successful as Barry managed to save Thomas from being impaled on top of the fence surrounding Wayne Manor as he fell.

With his superspeed powers restored, Barry changed the Reverse Flash costume into a Flash costume and attempted to break the time barrier in the hope of restoring the original timeline, but found out that he couldn't because someone else in that timeline was somehow co-opting the Speed Force that gave Barry his superspeed powers. The Flash discovered through the photos taken by Lois Lane in New Themyscira that the Reverse Flash was in this timeline as well, and so gained the help of Thomas Wayne, Cyborg, and the S.H.A.Z.A.M. kids to infiltrate New Themyscira to stop the war between Aquaman's Atlantean forces and Wonder Woman's Amazonian forces at least long enough to draw out the Reverse Flash.

When the Reverse Flash finally showed up, Eobard revealed to Barry that it was Barry, not Eobard, who was responsible for creating the new timeline by going back into time to change one event: to save Barry's mother. In Barry's use of his superspeed powers to break the time barrier, Eobard said, he created a "time boom" which altered other events not even directly related to the murder of Barry's mother to change everything and create this new timeline. As the Reverse Flash continued to pummel Barry into submission, Eobard waited for the destructive wave of Aquaman's quantum energy weapon to destroy everything, telling Barry that as long as he is in the same timeline, Barry wouldn't have enough Speed Force energy to break the time barrier again. But after the Reverse Flash was shot in the head by Thomas Wayne, the elder hero gave Barry a letter to give to his son in the other timeline before dying. Then Barry ran and broke through the time barrier, accosting his earlier self before he tried to save his mother from her murderer.

Barry again woke up in front of his computer in the police officer and then realized that everything was changed back to the way it originally was, with some minor changes. After visiting his mother's grave with his wife Iris, Barry went to visit Bruce Wayne to deliver the message Thomas wrote to his son before he ran off. Barry also realised that he had three sets of memories: one being the original timeline, one being the life where his mother lived, and the third being the revised history he now called home.

Justice League: War[]

After discovering a Parademon attempting to plant a Mother Box in Central City, he subdued it, and brought both the creature and device to S.T.A.R. Labs for study. A few days later, while coming back from a burrito run for the CCPD forensic department, Barry called Dr. Silas Stone to see whether or not they had found out anymore about the creature and device. When S.T.A.R. Labs was attacked by an army of Parademons, Dr. Stone and his team were in the Red Room attempting to save Silas's son life, Barry called just as the Parademons began to break into the room. He was told by Dr. Stone that they were in trouble, and rushed down to S.T.A.R. Labs as the Flash to assist them.

After defeating several Parademons with ease, and being saved by Silas' son Victor, who had been turned into a cyborg after an accident with a Mother Box, he left for downtown. Flash then helped Victor fight off the attacking Parademons. He then left to give the father and son some privacy. Later When Green Lantern and Batman were fighting more Parademons in Metropolis Flash came to their aid. After a friendly greeting with his old friend Green Lantern, Flash was awestruck at meeting Batman who was impressed by his work in Central City. Joined by Superman, Shazam, Wonder Woman and Cyborg the group watched as the Parademons leader Darkseid approached. Despite their efforts to fight him off Darkseid overpowered them and captured Superman. While Batman went to go rescue Superman the rest of the team came up with the plan to blind Darkseid.

Wonder Woman using her skills and agility was able to blind the first eye with her sword. As the team fought him they managed to restrain him allowing Flash to blind his second eye with a crowbar. However Darkseid was still not down. Cyborg decided that to truly defeat Darkseid they had to send him back through one of the mother boxes portals. After finally getting the Motherbox to activate the portal opened and together with help from a returning Batman and Superman; Flash and the others managed to push Darkseid back through the portal. Saving the Earth. Afterwards he reported to the rest of the heroes about Superman's capture. Barry later followed Green Lantern's plan, After Darkseid's defeat, Barry suggested to the rest of the group that they leave before the approaching civilians blamed them again, though he was surprised as they celebrated them instead. He later attended a ceremony honoring him and the rest of the heroes at Capitol Hill. Later when the team was being honored the president asked if they had a name only for Shazam to come up with the name Super Seven much to the others chagrin.

Justice League: Throne of Atlantis[]

The Flash must alert Hal Jordan to join the gathered Justice League to solve a problem of a destroyed military submarine.

Flash helps Arthur Curry and Mera fight off Trench - monstrous aquatic creatures - with the monsters fleeing when Superman arrived.

Flash joins the League in battling King Orm's invasion of the surface world, with the treacherous Orm exposed as the murderer of his mother and predecessor Quenn Atlanna by Cyborg's recordings and then defeated by half-brother Arthur Curry.

Justice League vs. Teen Titans[]

The Legion of Doom battle the Justice League. The Flash faces the Weather Wizard, managing to remove his sceptre, thus leave him powerless. Although, like the others in the League, he is shocked by the Wizard's mysterious transformation and continued use of his powers in spite of no sceptre. Robin crashes the Batwing into the Wizard, who is tied up by Wonder Woman's Lasso of Truth; before clarity about his transformation can be confirmed, the Corruptor is purged from the Wizard's body, who has no memory of his time under possession.

The dark force threatening the world, including possessing Superman, is revealed to be Trigon, an interdimensional demon who happens to be the father of Teen Titan Raven. When the League go to collect Raven, the other Titans refuse to yield, declaring that they will protect her. Before the argument continues further, Corruptors arrive to possess the present League members, except Batman, who injects himself with a neurotoxin, which made him an unusable vessel. Despite a valiant effort, the possessed League defeat the Titans and threaten to kill them unless Raven goes with them; thus Raven sadly acquiesces. Before they vanish, Blue Beetle launched a powerful electroshock probe on the nape of Cyborg's neck, which causes damage that purges his Corruptor.

The Titans realise from Batman and Cyborg that significant injury frees the possessed victim; thanks to Robin placing a tracer on all Titans, Raven included, they have a destination, and thanks to Cyborg, they can boom tube there. In the desert of Kahndaq, a massive gate was unearthed and is draining power from Raven. The Titans arrive, with Robin stabbing Superman with kryptonite, which frees him from the Corruptor. Superman then frees the Flash by breaking his leg, then Wonder Woman with her Lasso of Truth.

While injured, the Flash is able to accelerate his healing enough to be able to run again. Like the other League members available, the Flash fights Trigon to delay his path of destruction. The Titans defend Raven, so she is able to complete a spell that drags Trigon back into an astral prison within a crystal shard.

The Death of Superman[]

Doomsday seems unstoppable, as both Hawkman and Green Lantern fight it, but are shortly defeated. The Flash moves their unconscious bodies to the safety of an alley. Flash takes Hawkman's Nth metal mace, and uses it to repeatedly bash Doomsday, but to minimal effect. The creature's super reflexes allow it to intercept the Flash, punching him, which knocks him out.

After the deaths of Doomsday and Superman, Flash was among other Justice League teammates at the public memorial service for Superman.

The Reign of the Supermen[]

With the rest of the Justice League, he is sent to the Phantom Zone by Cyborg Superman. Thanks to Lex Luthor, the League is freed, and join the fight against Cyborg Superman's transformed cyborg army.

Like the others, Flash is shocked by Superman's resurrection, but is glad to have their friend and ally back.

Justice League Dark Apokolips War[]

Flash was among the heroes who took part of the assault on Apokolips against Darkseid, however the mission went wrong, some Heroes were killed by Darkseid's Paradooms and others were captured. As the main reactor was destroyed, Flash was made a walking generator and ran endlessly to keep Apokolips powered, which slightly delayed Darkseid's schedule due to it providing moderately less energy than the previous power source.

Two years later, the remaining heroes found him, rescue him, and when Constantine cast a spell to provide Flash the first sleep in two years, he also read his mind, doing so he discovered he caused the first Flashpoint, which had the additional unintentional consequence of making the borders of reality weak enough to allow Darkseid to enter it in the first place.

After Darkseid was finally defeated and only thirty-one percent of the Earth's molten core was taken, Constantine convince Barry to create another Flashpoint. Though Barry is reluctant at first. because he promised Iris to never do it again, but Constantine reason with him of the chances of fixing the timeline.

Accepting this, Barry ran back in time to restart the timeline to ensure it never falls into Darkseid's hands again, creating a new timeline.

The Flash continues to exist in the Tomorrowverse, however, he lacks any memory of the prior universes he had indirectly shaped and ended.

Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths - Part Three[]

Constantine's memories reveal that before the final Flashpoint, he placed a powerful dark spell on the Flash, under the guise it was merely a guidance spell. The Flash went back in time to ancient Apokolips, numerous more primitive Parademons dying when he past them. It was revealed that Constantine had directed the Flash to kill Darkseid, but since the New God was a fixed point in time, who must exist if the universe exists, the only point when he was truly vulnerable was as an infant; Flash reached Darkseid's crib, yet even knowing his future evils, Flash couldn't bring himself to kill a baby. However, Constantine's dark magic on Flash had already killed Darkseid just by being in proximity to him.

Breaking a fixed point in time caused the universe to shatter into the infinitely expanding multiverse, which was by its structure, unsustainable, and would threaten to collapse all reality. Thus Flash had unwittingly became complicit in endangering the end of everything; the reason Anti-Monitor began erasing universes was to prevent this eventuality.

Surviving participants in the Crisis used the Miracle Machine to create a new single reality, a monoverse, where all of their variants would unite in a new version of themselves, yet would lose memories and lives that they originally had. A legion of Anti-Monitors erased the remaining multiverse, but the nascent monoverse was secure from the annihilation.

Powers and Abilities[]

Powers[]

  • Speed Force Conduit
    • Accelerated Healing: Speed Force conduits aren't invulnerable nor durable enough to sustain damage however if they're harmed they will heal at high speeds. Any normal wear and tear damage to their bodies are almost instantly healed.
    • Decelerated Aging: Speed Force conduits have a slowed aging process. This power can be imparted on their most intimate loved ones by extended contact rather than distribution.
    • Energy Construct Creation: Speed Force conduits can use the matter generated by their speed to create solid objects such as walls or bridges. This power requires constant concentration and reapplication of the construct for it to remain stable. Flash's after images are also construct creations.
    • Flight: Speed Force conduits can rotate their arms and spin their bodies like tops to achieve something of a kind of helicopter flight. However, with practice conduits can even achieve controllable flight if launched at high speeds. Despite their flight abilities they are always faster on their feet.
    • Increased Perceptions: Speed Force conduits traveling at the speed of sound may miss important events as they run by. The Speed Force grants them enhanced senses that allow them to see, hear, smell, touch and/or taste at an increased speed and understand it as it's processed.
    • Infinite Mass Punch: Speed Force conduits have an increased level of strength added to their bodies which they can impart in different ways. Certain speedsters can strength each and every move they make however this requires attention and stress for each movement and therefore is almost never used. In most cases conduits can focus the Speed Force's extra-dimensional energies into one massive punch; when used in practiced this punch pushed a metahuman from one continent to another.
    • Phasing: Speed Force conduits can vibrate their molecules so quickly that they can achieve intangibility for short bursts allowing them to phase through objects.
    • Self-Sustenance: Speed Force conduits travel at incredible speeds which cause their bodies to work overtime. In situations where their bodies may be too fast for them to breathe they may impart on the Speed Force for sustenance. However, this almost always results in the conduits having an increased metabolism at all times requiring them to constantly refill their energy supplies.
    • Sharing the Force: Speed Force conduits can allow their friends or family members to run along side them at their equaled speeds. Certain conduits who may only have minor access to the Force may achieve full levels of the Force due to the main conduit's association with it.
    • Speed Force Aura: People who are propelled by the conduits during high speed situations can survive the harsh conditions associated with mach speeds. When the conduit must rescue an individual from a burning building these individuals will be protected while within the aura.
    • Speed Force Conduit: People who, for whatever reason, are connected to the Speed Force are sometimes called Speed Force Conduits. This means that they're connected to the Speed Force and are tethered to it. Some characters may control their Speed Force imparted powers in different ways such as only Superhuman Strength or even directed through Lighting but no matter their adaptions they're still connected to the Force.
    • Steal Speed: Speed Force conduits can steal the accelerated motion or momentum from objects or people to reduce their speed or even virtually stop them. Conduits may also steal the speed from other Speedsters or other fast moving people.
    • Supercharged Brain Activity: Sometimes neglected by Speedsters who only operate at superhuman speeds and never slow down enough to understand their full potential; Speedsters can access superhuman levels in their brains further than processing information. They can test theories, understand difficult equations and run trial and error in their brains at superhuman speeds. Different conduits access this activity in different ways.
    • Superhuman Stamina: Speed Force conduits have to access the Speed Force for a number of different tasks. Most Speedsters use their superhuman speed and react at superhuman speeds; therefore, they must run for extended periods or operate for a large amount of time. Their bodies can handle the stresses of superhuman racing without noticeable distress.
    • Superhuman Speed: Speed Force conduits have one main ability above all else. Conduits are connected to the barrier and accumulation of all Speed known in their universe. These characters immediately understand how to run at superhuman speeds and their bodies instinctively understand how to react at high-speed situations. Older speedsters have a reduced but maxed speed of 770 mph which is just below sonic booms allowing them to react to situations without causing civilians undo stress. Speedsters in their prime can travel at much faster speeds such as the max level of recorded aided speed on Earth and even reach the speed of light with enough willpower. It's possible for conduits to travel much faster than the speed of light however such levels require an incredible amount of stress. Speedsters unaccustomed to their max level of speeds may detach themselves from the Speed Force or even become part of the Speed Force by accident.
    • Vortex Creations: Speed Force conduits that plant themselves on the ground and rotate their extremities can cause an incredible amount of wind to burst through their focused funnel. Most Speedsters use this ability automatically when they run reducing the air currents around their body to low enough levels to no longer inhibit their speed. Creatively, Speedsters can create tornadoes and gusts with their arms.
    • Reality Hopping: Due to his experience in Justice Society: World War II, Flash learned he can vibrate his molecules to shift into different parallel universes. Also, can transport a certain amount of matter back with him.
    • Speed Force Sharing: Perhaps demanding significant emotional attachment from him, but in Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths – Part One he is able to bring anyone, even if they aren't metahuman, into the Speed Force with him; they remain until he brings them out, but they suffer no consequence beyond possibly experiencing decades of time in a nanosecond of real time.

Weakness[]

Another speedster can siphon energy from the Speed Force, which leaves Barry weaker and slower as long as they continue to do so, which was shown when Professor Zoom prevented Barry from undoing the Flashpoint Timeline, until Zoom was shot in the head by Batman (Thomas Wayne).

Trivia[]

  • This version of the character is exclusive to the continuity of the film Justice League: The Flashpoint Paradox and is an adaptation of Barry Allen/Flash. The original character was created by Robert Kanigher and Carmine Infantino and first appeared in Showcase #4.
  • Despite only being the main character in Justice League: The Flashpoint Paradox, Barry had the greatest influence on the entirety of the DCAMU, as his meddling with time caused everyone's history to be rewritten, and a side effect of the Flashpoint was that it enabled Darkseid to interact with their universe, inflicting such damage that Barry had to enact a new Flashpoint, which once again, rewrote or erased all of the characters and their experiences.
  • The end of The Flashpoint Paradox took place sometime between The Death of Superman and before Justice League Dark: Apokolips War.
  • There is a version of Barry Allen/The Flash in the Tomorrowverse, although it isn't explicit whether if it is the same character as the DCAMU, but with his memories wiped clean, or a new iteration that was remade after the final Flashpoint.
    • Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths – Part One appears to confirm that Tomorrowverse Barry Allen is the same person as in the DCAMU. It's revealed that the final Flashpoint had prevented Darkseid from accessing their reality, however, instead giving way to another force that is unleashing a wave of antimatter across every reality. Barry's memories had been rewritten by the new life; the fact he didn't remember and by the end of the film had aged to be a really old man, seemed to stay the Spectre's vengeance, who notes the loss of his wife and lifetime of freedom were payment enough for his guilt in indirectly enabling the antimatter wave. Although, Spectre also appeared moved and impressed by Barry's compassion and heroism.
