The Giver is the titular deuteragonist of the novel and film adaptation of the same name, and a mentioned character in the novel Son. He was the former Receiver of Memory but after aging was assigned as the Giver of Memory to Jonas.
In the film, he was portrayed by Jeff Bridges.
History[]
The Giver once had a daughter named Rosemary, who was the next Receiver of Memory, however, she couldn't handle all the memories of war and became traumatized. This led her to sign up for release, killing her.

Many years after his escape, Jonas received a set of the Giver's books, which were sent to him by the community, implying that Jonas's plan had worked and things where better around the community. It is unknown if the Giver sent them personally or they were sent to Jonas after the Giver's death.
