The Janitor, originally known as The Drifter, is the main protagonist of the 2021 action horror-comedy film, Willy's Wonderland. He is a quiet drifter trying to outlast the animatronics during the night shift at Willy's Wonderland in order to pay off his car repairs.
He is portrayed by Nicolas Cage, who also played Sean Archer, Cameron Poe, Benjamin Gates, Big Daddy, Balthazar Blake and voiced Grug Crood and Spider-Man Noir.
History[]
The Drifters past is almost entirely unknown but it’s shown by the dog tag seen in his car that he is a veteran which could explain his combat skills. It’s also shown in issue #4 the prequel comic he had a brother who also got his car damaged and ended up in Hayseville and made a deal with Tex Macadoo and Jed Love to get his car fixed by cleaning Willy’s Wonderland. However like everyone else who got the same deal he was to be sacrificed to animatronics and killed. This event presumably caused the Drifter to go to Hayseville to get revenge on his brothers killers.
The quiet drifter “accidentally” drives his car into road spikes taking out all of his tires and leaving him stranded in the remote town of Hayesville, Nevada, he is picked up by the town mechanic Jed Love who tells him it will be 1,000 dollars to repair the car, but they only take cash, which the Drifter he does not have on him. Suddenly a man name Tex Macadoo makes a deal with the drifter if he cleans up his defunct diner, Willy's Wonderland. The drifter doesn't hesitate to take the job and quickly gets to work cleaning but is unknowingly locked in the building by Tex with the eight violent and evil animatronic mascots who are planning to kill and devour him.
The Janitor puts on a Willy's Wonderland staff t-shirt and quickly gets to work cleaning and starts mopping the floor, all of a sudden, Ozzie Ostrich attacks him. The Janitor completely unfazed by this response by breaking his mop in half and mercilessly beats Ozzie to death and tears out his neck. The Janitor puts Ozzie's remains in a trash bag and tries to put it in the dumpster, but is unable to realizing that he is locked in the building. But the Janitor does not seem to mind; his watch then beeps telling him it's time for his fifteen minute break, he goes in the kitchen to drink his favorite soda punch pop to keep himself awake, and he notices that there is an old pinball machine, but before he can play it his break ends and he must get back to work.
In the bathroom he cleans up all the graffiti, but he hears a voice coming from one of the stalls. He searches the stalls one by one but when he gets to last stall, he is attacked by Gus Gorilla, who wrestles with him until the Janitor gets the upper hand and shoves a plunger into his mouth. The Janitor then smashes Gus's head in a urinal and as he did with Ozzie, puts his remains in a trash bag.
Soon Liv Hawthorne and her friends break into Willy's to rescue the Janitor. Liv attempts to kill Siren Sara who tried to murder he earlier, but the Janitor stops her and takes away her knife. The Janitor is told he must leave Willy's if he wants to live but he silently declines leaving and would rather take the risk of cleaning to get his car fixed. The Janitor even ignores Liv when she tells him the backstory of Willy's Wonderland. Soon after one of Liv's friends Dan gets stabbed in the gut and killed by Knighty Knight, The Janitor, now off his break, slams Knighty to the ground and decapitates him with his own sword. He then goes to the Super Happy Fun Room to kill Arty Alligator by breaking his jaw and ripping out the circuits from his throat. Afterwards after Cammy Chameleon kills Liv's other friend, Chris, The Janitor goes to kill Cammy but his watch beeps realizing it's time for his break, he gives Liv the knife back to fight Cammy while he goes to play pinball.
Soon The Janitor returns and strangles Cammy with a rope and proceeds to drag her around until he is cornered by Siren Sara and Tito Turtle. But the Janitor quickly knocks them both out. He is then stopped by Liv's adoptive mother and town sheriff Eloise Lund and her Deputy Evan, who tie up the Janitor for killing most of the animatronics whom the town had made a deal with for their safety. Eloise leaves allowing the Janitor to be killed by Cammy and Sara, but however the Janitor is able to mortally wound Sara and snap Cammy's neck, killing her.
He continues cleaning and takes his routine break and plays the pinball machine getting and all time high score and dances in celebration. Soon the Janitor takes out the bodies of Sara and Cammy to the dumpster Eloise notices the Janitor and holds him at gunpoint back to Willy's to be killed by Willy Weasel but Willy rather kills Eloise for failing him. The Janitor is attacked by Willy and brutally slashed by Willy's claws until the animatronic throws him into the ball pit. Soon the Janitor emerges from the ball pit takes the two mop handles he broke earlier, tapes them together, and gets a bag and fills it with punch pop soda and begins to beat Willy mercilessly. Then The Janitor then rips Willy's head off finally putting and end the curse on Willy's Wonderland.
Tex and Jed return in the morning to find that not only is Willy's completely clean, but the Janitor is alive and has killed every animatronic. He is then given his keys to his repaired Camaro back and he drives off with Liv and briefly sees the explosion that kills Tex and Jed which was caused by Siren Sara. The Janitor then sees Tito Turtle in the road and then promptly runs him over killing him the Janitor then rides away from the town of Hayesville with his mission complete.
Personality[]
A highly unusual character, The Janitor's most defining feature is his complete silence. He does not speak a single word all through Willy's Wonderland and is generally unemotional and unexpressive, even when faced with horrible violence and threat (for example, he shows absolutely no fear or desperation when threatened by Sheriff Lund with a shotgun). However, this stone-faced demeanor breaks at points of high emotion, where The Janitor can become highly angry or excited; these moments are usually followed by an immediate return to his usual self.
Despite this, The Janitor is a very eccentric and almost whimsical character. He is shown to have a completely unbreakable dedication to whatever he puts his mind to, as he continues to clean Willy's and take breaks in between fights, despite all that has happens to him. He also shows little shock or panic at the thought of Willy's satanic gang and evil backstory, and is completely nonplussed at the supernatural occurrences that go on around him. He seems to have a childish side to him as well, carrying and drinking large amounts of "Punch" soda, and becoming obsessed with playing pinball and improving his pinball skills. This extreme contrast between his serious moments and bizarre character quirks seems to be very confusing to both Liv and her friends, and Willy and his accomplices.
Despite his very nonchalant and uncaring perspective on most things, The Janitor is very heroic and works hard during his shifts to defeat the satanic animatronics, as well as protect Liv and her friends. He shows no mercy to any of the animatronics, killing them in brutal and barbaric ways, and is resourceful in the ways he defends himself, using plungers, bags full of cans or even one of his enemies' weapons' to finish them off.
