“ | THE OPPOSITE OF BILL. | „ |
~ A cryptogram on the Oracle's page in Journal 3. |
“ | For a week, as I recovered, we had many long conversations about Bill. Apparently, his thirst for power caused him to destroy his home dimension - including his parents and everyone else he'd ever known. She spoke of him without anger, but with a calm, clinical resolve to see his reign of terror end. She looked deep into my eyes and said I had the face of the man who was destined to destroy Bill. | „ |
~ Stanford describing the Oracle. |
Jheselbraum the Unswerving, better known as The Oracle, is one of the two overarching protagonists (alongside the Axolotl) of Disney's Gravity Falls franchise. She is a mysterious extra-dimensional creature with seven eyes who can see into the past and future, she is considered to be the opposite and (alongside Stanford Pines and Dippers Pines) being one of Bill Cipher’s archenemies and former friend.
Personality[]
The Oracle is shown to be a mysterious and stoic but also kind and patient individual who displays some affection towards Stanford after rescuing him. She dedicated to making sure Stanford is able to stop Bill, showing full confidence and belief towards him, Her relationship with Bill is unclear as they used to work together and are now enemies, but she does not appear to spite him despite their rivalry.
Also despite her stoic nature, she is implied to have a more fun side equally similar to Bill as she spends the night going partying, typically with Stanford all night while drinking some cosmic sands. This implies that while she might have worked with Bill once to satisfy a need for fun, she has since grown out of it after recognising his wickedness. Despite this however, the Oracle is very compassionate. Recognising that her former colleagues, the Henchmaniacs, were manipulated into joining Bill and abused by him, the Oracle chose to forgive their misdeeds and grant them safe passage to dimensions beyond dimensional authority and Bill’s influence.
She also seems to be devoted to the Axolotl, even keeping drawings of it in her house.
Appearance[]
She has the appearance of a humanoid woman but noticeably sports seven eyes on her face. She wears an elegant dress with jewelry attached. A crossed-out and a shadowy photo of her indicate that she has pink skin.
Biography[]
Her origins are mysterious and she was born in an unknown dimension, likely having a similar ability to Bill Cipher. She becomes one of Bill Cipher's Henchmaniacs before defecting from them for unknown reasons, as shown in a crossed-out image in The Book of Bill. Seeing as Bill vehemently denies her existence, it’s likely that she deeply hurt Bill when she betrayed him. It's implied that she might be responsible for Bill's first patron Modoc turning on him after she told him about Bill's true intentions.
A long time later, she would meet Stanford Pines in the Second Dimension atop a mountaintop shrine in Dimension 52. She explained to Stanford his mission to defeat Bill Cipher and gave him a metal plate in his head to defend him. It was also she that revealed Bill's past to Ford. Her house is depicted as being perched on a tall mountain in an artwork. Ford believes the decision to implant the metal plate in his head is made by thin air when he is up in The Oracle's house.
She celebrated with Ford by partying and drinking cosmic sands then made him wake up in another dimension.
In the "This Is Not A Website Dot Com" ARG, a photo of the Oracle appears with a message directed to the Henchmaniacs at the back, promising them directions to safe dimensions in case of Bill’s return. It appears that this message came from the Oracle and was her way of giving back to her old teammates.
