The Three Diablos are the titular deuteragonists of the 2012 DreamWorks short film Puss in Boots: The Three Diablos.
They are three orphaned kittens who initially worked for the French thief Le Chuchoteur, which included the theft of the Heart of Fire Ruby from Princess Alessandra Belagomba's crown. However, thanks to Puss in Boots, they have change their ways and decided to fight against Le Cuchoteur to retrieve the jewel from their former master. At the end, they all became royal guards for Princess Alessandra.
They don’t talk, but Gonzalo and Sir Timoteo Montenegro III were both voiced by Miles Christopher Bakshi, while Perla was voiced by Nina Zoe Bakshi.
Personality[]
Diablos, are nothing but three orphaned kittens who have just been led down the wrong path, with the cat helping them though. They are very playful, the Diablos formed a loving bond with the Puss, which became the closest thing they ever had to a real parent.
History[]
They helped Le Chuchoteur steal the Heart of Fire Ruby, but were captured by the royal guards and abandoned by their master. Puss in Boots is hired to retrieve the Ruby, and ignoring the Princess' warnings about the Diablos, tells them to lead him to the Whisperer's hideout. Puss is fooled by their apparent sweetness and innocence so that they chain him with their handcuffs so they can get the key from him to free himself. After that they start to playfully torture him in different painful and humiliating ways and then bury him alive.
Puss however survives and attacks the Diablos as they are returning from The Whisperer, and a contest of the innocent kitten gaze ensues between Puss and Diablos. The Diablos almost win, but then they are overwhelmed by the big tender eyes of Puss who catches them again and ties them up.
The same night he warns them that the following day they will go back to prison forever and bets that their mother will be very angry with them, but then seeing their faces, he realizes that they have no mother and are orphans. The Puss reveals that he too is an orphan and how a his friend of him led him down the wrong path in the same way the Whisperer led the Diablos. Afterwards he promises to help direct them in the right path, giving them adoptive names (Perla, Gonzalo and Sir Timoteo Montenegro III; the latter "because sometimes a title is all you need".). The cat then proceeds to train them and play with them, getting close to them, until finally he tells them a bedtime story until they fall asleep.
The next morning, the Diablos lead Puss to the Whisperer's hideout, where the latter suddenly and spontaneously appears, which causes the Diablos to hide in fear. Realizing that the Diablos have betrayed him, Le Chuchoteur threatens them, but the Puss raises his sword in their defense and tells them to run. The Whisperer manages to corner the Puss but the Diablos save him with the same fighting techniques the Puss trained them in, ending with the ruby being recovered, and the Whisperer accidentally falling to his death.
Eventually, Puss returns the ruby to the princess, is rewarded, and entrusts her with the now-redeemed Diablos as her new personal guards. Initially she is unsure, but eventually she agrees. Puss first gives a coin to each of the kittens, only they think they are chocolate coins and try to nibble, except Tommy who swallows his. With tears in their eyes the Diablos say goodbye to Puss.

Trivia[]
- When naming the Diablos, Timmy had the numerical suffix of III at the end of his name, so it is possible that Puss had two past relatives who were named "Sir Timoteo Montenegro".
- Coincidentally, Puss himself has starred in a Shrek film that's aptly titled as Shrek the Third. Ironically enough, throughout the majority of that film, he wasn't in his normal body due to an accidental spell that's casted by Merlin.
