Loopers... assemble!
~ Hope

The Underground is an organization featured in Fortnite: Battle Royale, which was initially introduced in Chapter 5: Season 1. Initially, they functioned as a faction of vigilantes opposing The Society, but they were disbanded for the first time shortly thereafter. The group reassembled towards the conclusion of Chapter 5: Season 2 and subsequently evolved into a team of superheroes by Chapter 5: Season 4.

They maintain several dispersed hideouts across the Island, in addition to a concealed headquarters located in abandoned underground train stations.

They serve as the primary protagonists in Chapter 5: Season 1, supporting protagonists in Chapter 5: Season 2, and return as the main protagonists in both Chapter 5: Season 3 and Chapter 5: Season 4.

Overview[]

The Underground initially emerged as a faction of vigilantes, spearheaded by Hope, who opposed the authoritarian regime of The Society and sought to dismantle its leadership. This group was ultimately disbanded following the emergence of The Pantheon and the collapse of The Society at the onset of Chapter 5: Season 2. Nevertheless, they reassembled towards the conclusion of the same season to assist The Looper and their allies in combating Zeus and his forces. Following their triumph and the expulsion of the gods allied with Zeus, The Underground positioned themselves as the guardians of the Island, addressing challenges related to Pandora's Box and other threats, such as the Wasteland Warriors. With the addition of the Avengers, X-Men, and other heroes summoned by Wastelander Magneto from Reality: 616 to confront The Wanderer, also known as Doctor Doom, The Underground evolved into a coalition of superheroes.

History[]

Post-Big Bang[]

Montague established The Society, an organization composed of the most affluent and influential elites of the islands, at an indeterminate time several decades or possibly centuries ago. This initiative prompted the majority of the elite, including Hope's family, to become members, with Hesk's family being the sole exception, opting for neutrality. This stance persisted until their heir chose to oppose The Society in the future, despite receiving numerous invitations from Montague to join over the decades.

Upon their birth, Hope and Valeria were nurtured within The Society. Valeria eventually succeeded their parents as the head of their family, ascending to the highest echelons alongside Montague at the pinnacle of The Society. As time passed, Hope began to recognize the organization's moral failings, driven by her sense of justice. Meanwhile, Valeria became increasingly power-hungry after exploring their grandfather's ancient texts on The Pantheon.

Consequently, Hope made the decision to renounce The Society's principles and departed from the organization, subsequently founding The Underground, a rebel faction committed to combating the corrupt elites. She was joined by others who had also suffered due to The Society's actions. Valeria, on the other hand, discovered the powers associated with Pandora's Box and shared her insights with the other leaders, prompting them to seek out Pandora's Box to enhance their power. Believing that Jones possessed the information they required, the leaders kidnapped Peely. Hope located Jones and proposed her assistance in finding Peely in exchange for his support against The Society. Silas Hesk began to finance The Underground's efforts in their conflict against The Society. By this time, the leaders of The Society each possessed a medallion containing a fragment of divine power, enhancing their strength; however, the origins and acquisition of these medallions, as well as whether previous generations of leaders had similar artifacts, remain unknown.

Chapter 5: Season 1[]

This strategy ultimately proved ineffective, as Jones, despite lacking any prior knowledge of the Box, was determined to take drastic actions to rescue his friend and engaged in conflict with them, aided by The Underground.

Throughout the Takedown Quests, Jones and Hope embarked on a mission across the island to gather intelligence regarding Peely's whereabouts. With the assistance of The Looper, they collaborated to eliminate Legion Guards and Elites, acquire Society Medallions, and confront the Society's Bosses. This series of actions ultimately led to Jones successfully rescuing Peely from the Fencing Fields, significantly undermining the Society's grip on the island.

As the influence of The Society began to diminish, an enigmatic traveler named Odyssey arrived on the Island, accompanied by the discovery of a peculiar Mosaic that carried a foreboding message. Upon learning about The Looper and witnessing a glimpse of their destiny, she enlisted their assistance in her investigation of The Mosaic, which she believed signified an important event and was connected to the ancient power she sensed on the Island. As The Looper uncovered additional fragments of The Mosaic, Odyssey disclosed that the Society Medallions held by the leaders of The Society contained a piece of this power, which was becoming increasingly potent. Subsequently, following a series of earthquakes near Valeria's camp, a Titan's hand emerged from the earth, grasping the chained Pandora's Box, indicating that Valeria had finally located it. Eventually, Valeria succeeded in breaking the box free from its chains, releasing a colossal beam of light along with countless souls from within.

Chapter 5: Season 2[]

Before the commencement of this season, The Underground had significantly diminished the strength of The Society's forces. Following Valeria's opening of Pandora's Box, the Pantheon deities—Zeus, Artemis, and Poseidon—pursued the remaining members of The Society, resulting in the Underground's triumph. Consequently, Hope decided to disband the team until it was deemed necessary to regroup.

During this period, The Looper, whose destiny was foretold by The Oracle, is selected to become the Champion of mortals. His mission is to rally the immortals against Zeus and to overthrow the King of the Gods. After successfully completing the trials of strength, agility, and wisdom set forth by The Oracle, as well as defeating Cerberus in a challenge from Hades, The Looper confronts Ares. By vanquishing the god of war and seizing his medallion, he effectively declares war on the deities.

Upon learning of these developments from Hades and Ares, Zeus was filled with fury and issued Edicts to the other gods while simultaneously gathering followers. Meanwhile, Aphrodite decided to ally with The Looper, despite her initial belief that their cause was doomed. Gradually, she began to regain her resolve to fight. After interpreting some of Zeus' Edicts, they uncovered his intention to recruit Artemis. However, The Looper successfully secured an audience with her and brought her into their ranks before Zeus could do so.

Hope, realizing that she could no longer remain passive while power was being abused, reactivated The Underground to combat the injustices perpetrated by the gods, particularly Zeus. In the interim, Cerberus disclosed that he had been assigned by Zeus to monitor The Looper's activities but offered to cease his surveillance if The Looper assisted him in locating a lost artifact entrusted to him by Hades. Hades revealed that he had concealed the artifact—a toy ball for Cerberus—during Zeus' storm. To alleviate Cerberus' burden, he applied the ball's scent to The Looper and had them engage in play with Cerberus, which enabled him to find the ball and return it to his doghouse in Grim Gate. The Looper then returned to The Oracle, who informed him that Medusa would be the next ally to recruit against Zeus.

Chapter 5: Season 3[]

Following Zeus's lightning strike on Pandora's Box, The Underground observed a vessel emerging from the Sandstorm, making its way toward the island. Hope, along with several members of The Underground, proceeded to investigate the approaching Sandstorm.

The Wasteland Warriors have arrived on The Leviathan, unleashing chaos and destruction in their wake. Hope and Jones uncover that The Machinist is constructing a Pipeline from Redline Rig to restore power to The Leviathan. In response, they swiftly reach out to The Looper for assistance while they continue to gather intelligence to devise a strategy to eliminate their leader, Megalo Don. Hope establishes a temporary base at Sandy Steppes, where she soon discovers a gem holder linked to Pandora's box. They communicate with The Looper, requesting a dialogue with Wastelanders Brite Raider and Rust.

They inform them that Megalo Don has been documenting his plans and that unusual activities have been occurring at Redline Rig. Consequently, The Looper is assigned the task of relaying information from the Rig's terminals to Hope. Later, while monitoring the communications in the Wasteland, Hope learns that Wastelanders have been discovering gems, which she suspects originated from Pandora's Box. Recognizing that Megalo Don and his crew are also in pursuit of these Pandora gems, Hope and Jones instruct The Looper to retrieve the first gem from Brutal Beachhead and return it to them. The Looper successfully locates and delivers the first gem to Hope, who begins to experience an unusual headache whenever she is near a Pandora gem.

Shortly thereafter, Hope assigns The Looper the mission of acquiring another Pandora gem, this time located at the Nitrodrome. After successfully impressing Ringmaster Scarr, she consents to exchange her Pandora gem. The Looper presents Hope with the second gem, prompting her to share the brief visions she has experienced each time she interacts with a gemstone. Hope instructs The Looper to keep this information from Jones, as she wishes to prevent him from becoming concerned about her well-being.

Jones subsequently instructs The Looper to consult with Peabody at the Pea Bois headquarters. After assisting Peabody in his shops, he presents the third Pandora gem to The Looper, who then gives it to Hope. As her headaches and brief visions intensify, she confides in The Looper about her premonitions of Megalo Don collaborating with The Wanderer. Meanwhile, Nisha, feeling a sense of emptiness, approaches her older brother Kavel to discuss the possibility of joining The Underground in order to rebuild their lives and strive for a better future. Once the final Pandora gem from Megalo Don is secured, The Oracle reappears to guide Hope through the forthcoming challenges, as Magneto summons reinforcements to support her in battle. Following the Refinery Event, the explosion of Megalo Don's pipeline uncovers Pandora's Box beneath Ridline Rig. The Oracle, now prepared to assist in the impending conflict against The Wanderer, reveals to Hope her true destiny, indicating that she was meant to be at the bottom of Pandora's Box and is destined for greatness, while also cautioning them about The Wanderer's imminent presence that will alter everything.

Chapter 5: Season 4[]

Following the explosion of Megalo Don's pipeline, which unveiled Pandora's Box, The Wanderer emerged as the formidable Doom. He swiftly absorbed all the powers contained within Pandora's Box and subsequently enlisted a multitude of perilous villains to his cause by summoning The Raft.

The Underground has allied with all the heroes summoned by Magneto, with Jones assuming the role of Captain America, while Hope readies herself to embrace her heroic destiny. Nisha and Kavel, former members of The Society, have made the decision to join The Underground. Alongside previous allies and members such as Starr Oakley, Brite Raider, and Rufus, they are reuniting with The Underground's forces to support their friends, Hope and Jones.

Gwenpool has been captured by Doom's forces and confined within one of The Raft's cells. She seeks assistance from The Looper to execute her mission, initially requesting them to eliminate a guard and procure their ID Chip. Upon analyzing the chip, Gwenpool discovers it lacks essential information. Consequently, she instructs The Looper to infiltrate The Raft's system using Doom's passphrase, Cynthia. The Looper successfully retrieves the drive and presents it to Gwenpool. Subsequently, as a final step in her plan, she requests The Looper to search The Raft for computer chips required by Shuri for her project involving The Rift Beacons. The Looper complies and provides her with the necessary components before departing. Gwenpool eventually escapes her cell and reunites with the other heroes.

Later, The Looper and Jones attempt to locate Doom together, but their efforts prove fruitless. Hope contacts The Looper, urging them to investigate a crater left by Pandora's Box near Redline Rig, where unusual activity has been reported. Upon arrival and examination, The Looper discovers the shattered mask of Doom. After consulting with The Oracle, they conclude that it is a prototype and hand it over to Hope for further examination. Upon receiving the broken mask, Hope expresses her uncertainty about how to confront Doom. The Looper and Jones then resume their investigation at Redline Rig to search for additional fragments of Doom's damaged armor, with Jones remarking that Doom likely intended for them to discover his mask.

They do not uncover any additional information. Subsequently, Hope instructs The Looper to collect the recording devices she had positioned at Fractured Four and the Cynthia von Doom Memorial. Upon investigation, they discover that Doom has been contemplating his situation, expressing concerns about the corrupting influence of the Box and its persistent attempts to dominate him. This has compelled him to retreat temporarily in order to forge new armor. However, this revelation does not provide any clues regarding his location. Consequently, Hope directs The Looper to obtain one of the chips implanted in the heads of Doom's henchmen for further examination, emphasizing that their priority is now to locate Doom before devising a strategy to defeat him.

As Jones and The Looper persist in their quest to locate Doom, they explore various dig sites that are under the watch of Doom's henchmen. They theorize that a paper trail may exist that could guide them to Doom. The Looper successfully subdues a henchman and retrieves a shipping manifest. Following this, Jones sends The Looper to consult with War Machine, who has been reviewing notes from the henchmen. War Machine reveals that Doom is integrating components of Pandora's Box into his new suit and advises The Looper to commence training, offering access to some of his equipment, including War Machine's Arsenal and Hover Jets. Meanwhile, Hope, feeling anxious and desperate, inquires with The Oracle about any new insights. The Oracle mentions a feline ally, a clever strategy, and a victory concealed within a setback. Jones eventually encounters Shuri, the feline ally referenced by The Oracle, and he explains her plan to dismantle Doom's robotic minions.

Hope assigns The Looper the task of gathering supplies for Shuri, while Jones elaborates on the strategy to reverse the energetic flow of the Rift beacons using Rift recalibrators. This approach aims to potentially transport Doom far from the island, although its effectiveness remains uncertain. Consequently, Hope proposes testing this plan on Doombot first. As the situation unfolds, Hope begins to doubt her capabilities, questioning her suitability to lead the fight against Doom. Meanwhile, The Looper delivers the collected components to Shuri, who proceeds to attach the new Rift recalibrators to three rift beacons surrounding Castle Doom. Hope instructs The Looper to confront Doombot; however, complications arise as the recalibrators begin to malfunction. It soon becomes apparent to Hope and Shuri that Doom's lieutenants, Mysterio and Emma Frost, have interfered with the Rift beacons. Hope realizes that defeating Doom cannot be the sole focus; they must first eliminate his lieutenants.

Hope and Jones conduct a reconnaissance of Doomstadt with guidance from The Oracle, uncovering that Mysterio has been manipulating the minds of the citizens of Latveria, the wastelanders, and their own henchmen to fabricate an illusion of perfection.

The Looper is assigned the mission of traversing the island to liberate individuals who are under Mysterio's influence, prior to dismantling the numerous security cameras situated throughout Doomstadt. This action will effectively eliminate Mysterio's means of exerting control over the populace of Latveria. With the citizens now liberated, Hope, alongside The Looper and Jones, prepares to confront Mysterio. Following an intense battle, The Underground successfully frees the residents of Doomstadt, marking their victory by adorning the town and the statue of Doom with graffiti.

Subsequently, Jones directs The Looper to engage in discussions with Iron Man. Tony Stark permits The Looper and The Underground to utilize his technology as they formulate a strategy to overcome Emma Frost. After conducting a trial of Stark Tech, The Looper is dispatched to survey Castle Doom for the Rift Recalibrator signal, while Tony provides power dampeners to mitigate Emma's psychic influence on Hope. Jones then instructs The Looper to further assess the capabilities of Stark Tech.

As Doom's forces commenced the retrieval of the Arcane Artifacts—fragments of Pandora's Box that Doom intends to incorporate into his new armor—Doom's Chosen appeared across the Island to gather these items and deliver them to him. The six artifacts are crucial for completing Doom's Pandora's armor, which sets the stage for a monumental clash between heroes and villains, referred to as the Day of Doom.

At Hope's behest, the mission details were encrypted and classified, with instructions concealed for The Looper on the Island. Upon discovering the phone, The Looper received a call from Hope via a secure channel, where she outlined the strategy: to utilize Stark Power Dampeners to diminish Emma's psychic abilities before launching an offensive against her. The Looper initially employed forecast towers to track Emma Frost's operatives, only to find that they were already in pursuit. Subsequently, they engaged a specialist to ensure the effective placement of the power dampeners around The Raft. Once this was accomplished, Hope reestablished communication with The Looper to coordinate an assault alongside Jones and their other allies. However, the Rift Recalibrators detected Doom's signal, indicating his approach to The Raft, suggesting he had completed his new armor. Jones alerted Hope to this development, but in a moment of panic, he inadvertently left The Looper to confront Emma Frost alone, who they ultimately managed to defeat.

Hope, Jones, and their allies prepared for Doom's imminent arrival, setting up rift beacons near the central lake with the intention of sending him back to his original reality. Peelverine was assigned the responsibility of activating the beacons but quickly passed the task to The Looper. As The Looper activated each beacon sequentially, they all began to align towards Doom's Arcane Forge.

As the final beacon ignites at the forge, Hope activates the rift, but Doom's luminous green visage emerges from the Arcane Forge, which had been shielded, unleashing a formidable energy surge that envelops the vicinity in a cascade of debris. Transforming into a colossal figure, Doom swiftly eliminates nearly all who dare to oppose him in the area. After Doom dismisses War Machine with a flick, Jones throws his shield at Doom, but it proves ineffective, and Doom sends him crashing to the ground. Just as Doom prepares to deliver the final blow, Hope springs into action, seizing Jones's shield to protect them both as the King of Latveria unleashes energy blasts in their direction. In a daring maneuver, Doom seizes Hope, bringing her face-to-face with him. She retaliates by stabbing him in the eye with the shield, still charged with Pandora's magic, leaving Doom with a scar that creates a vulnerability in his physical defenses. However, this act injures her arm in the process. Peelverine, Gwenpool, War Machine, Iron Man, and Iron Spider—bolstered by a legion of Loopers—charge into battle, confronting Doom in a monumental clash at the central lake. Ultimately, the heroes and Loopers succeed, managing to weaken Doom sufficiently to activate the final rift beacon, which strips him of his Pandora's Box powers and sends him back to his original reality. During the confrontation with Doom, three rift beacons were launched, landing at Grand Glacier, Brawler's Battleground, and Restored Reels. In the ensuing days, pumpkins and vines began to emerge as Ultima Carver's Halloween Reality started to merge with the Island. Amidst this turmoil, Hope spray paints Apollo Island onto the screen of Restored Reels, while Stark's Rift Beacon there begins to spark, opening a rift and transporting everyone to Apollo Island.

Chapter 2 Remix:[]

Hope would decide to disband The Underground and depart from Helios Island upon realizing that Pandora's Box was merely the beginning, with Jones supporting her. She would leave four audio recordings on Apollo Island for her elder sister to discover, making every effort to reach out to Valeria and persuade her to meet by reminiscing about shared memories. However, her attempts would be met with repeated voicemail responses, leading Hope to arrange a meeting between The Underground and Valeria, hoping her sister would attend this time. In another attempt to connect, Hope would call Valeria once more to share her unusual new ability to foresee the future through her artistic creations.
