The Warden is one of the five tritagonists (alongside the Titan Ravager, Endie, Skellington and Spider) of Season 3 of the AvM Shorts. He was also referenced in the Actual Shorts miniseries.

He is a centuries-old blind hostile mob living in the Deep Dark biome, guarding a village that is long lost. Upon being reminded of his past by the Second Coming, he redeems himself and helps him fight King Orange.

Biography[]

Backstory[]

The Warden's past could be best described as the one of an Iron Golem; He used to a peaceful monster that protected a village and its Villagers, but due to unknown circumstances, the Warden was left alone in its ruins; It can be presumed the Villagers either died or went somewhere else. For the following centuries, he continued to guard it, and was hostile to anyone brave enough to go inside. Along the line, he lost his eyesight and the majority of his memories.

"The Ultimate Weapon"[]

The Warden is the unseen final antagonist.

While not seen in person, his existence is teased when a stick figure known as the Second Coming falls into the Deep Dark biome and activates a Sculk Sensor.

"The Warden"[]

The Warden is the titular central antagonist.

The Second Coming tries to find a way out of the abandoned village. As he's slowly losing his patience, he punches a Sculk Sensor in anger, alarming the Warden. Throughout most of the episode, the Warden is looking for a way to kill the stick figure, finally chasing him into a dead end. However, the Second Coming has found a flute and a notebook, and when he looks inside the notebook, he finds a way to pacify the creature; Play a song on the flute, which turns out to be the same song the Villagers played so many years ago. After standing completely still for a few seconds, the Warden hugs the Second Coming. Afterwards, the creature is asked for help in fighting another stick figure known as "King Orange", a cruel monarch with a lust for power. Agreeing, the Warden takes the Second Coming and brings him towards the Nether portal.

Back in the Nether, the king was just recovering from the damage he was previously dealt with. Suddenly confronted by the Warden, he's forced to run away from the creature while he tries to kill him, After a moment, he puts a gold block on his staff, granting it power strong enough to rival the Warden. While putting up a good fight, King Orange is eventually defeated and send flying into the distance. Grabbing the staff, the Second Coming and the Warden run to finish their enemy off. However, he managed to find a Minecraft Game Icon; A powerful weapon granting him godlike abilities.

"Monster School"[]

The Warden is a major protagonist.

Immediately after the previous episode, King Orange demands his staff back. After not getting it the easy way, he charges at the heroes; With his new power, the Warden doesn't stand a chance against him, especially when the king finds a block he can't break; Netherite. Trapping both him and the Second Coming in a bunch of Netherite, King Orange gets his staff back and prepares to put the Master Block back on it. However, he's stopped by new enemies; A stick figure called Red, and a trio of monsters it befriended called Endie, Skellington and Spider. While the king is busy, Endie teleports both the Warden and the Second Coming from the Netherite. The fight continues, during which King Orange is challenged by the combined power of his enemies. Eventually, Red replaces the gold block on the staff with a Netherite one, granting it enough power to blast King Orange into the distance. As the team celebrates their victory, the king suddenly appears before them, wielding not one, but two Game Icons.

"The Raid"[]

The Warden is a major protagonist.

Using his new MGI, King Orange creates several Dark Negatives; Evil, shadowy versions of the heroic monsters. While they prove to be equally strong as the originals, Red manages to kill them all with the staff, and the gang is eventually saved by Yellow and Blue, another stick figure duo, as well as the humongous Titan Ravager. While the Ravager is fighting King Orange, the Warden and the other monsters deal with King Orange's new Negatives. Eventually, the heroes find a way to join the Titan Ravager, Yellow and Blue in fighting King Orange, during which the Warden attacks a new wave of Negatives, and manages to kill them all with help from Yellow and Blue. Eventually, he's hit with a gigantic axe by King Orange, temporarily taking him out of the fight. Once the monarch is done playing around, he spawns dozens of Negatives, during which the Warden goes toe-to-toe with a Negative of himself, before being defeated by a second Negative. Meanwhile, King Orange merges the two MGIs into one, puts the new weapon on the staff, and creates a powerful black hole.

"Note Block Universe"[]

The Warden is a cameo character.

He makes a quick cameo near the end of the episode, where the newly-redeemed Purple smacks King Orange; as the camera pans over to the Second Coming, the Warden is briefly seen.

"The King"[]

The Warden is one of the six tritagonists (alongside the Titan Ravager, Endie, Skellington, Spider and Herobrine).

In the flashback at the beginning of the episode, a wiki page about the Warden is briefly seen.

In the present, the newly-redeemed Purple takes the king's staff and destroys all but few of the Dark Negatives, with the Warden finishing off two Warden Negatives that survived the attack. After a quick fight, the Warden manages to pin down the king with help from the other heroes. However, Yellow accidentally gives King Orange an opportunity to take his command block staff and fight his way towards his original staff and take it from Purple. After a few minutes of fighting, where the heroes are joined by Herobrine himself, King Orange learns he can absorb mobs into his staff and begins to slowly finish off all the monsters, one by one. The Warden, moments before being absorbed, throws the Second Coming away and thus saves him from being absorbed.

At the end of the episode, the Second Coming manages to resurrect everyone who perished during the war, including the Warden. The Second Coming says his goodbyes to him and Red puts his headband on the creature, making him his successor as the fourth member of the Monster School's Yellow Team. After Endie, Skellington and Spider properly introduce themselves, Herobrine accepts the Warden as a new student and teleports both himself and his monsters back to the school.

As shown in the credits, the Warden has become popular with all the students due to his abilities, allowing him to move on from his duty as a village guardian and find a new life with new friends.

Actual Shorts[]

The Warden is referenced in the episode "Fireworks" with a firework in the shape of his face.

Trivia[]

  • Series creator Alan Becker initially wanted to delay the Warden's episode until Mojang, the creators of Minecraft, gave more information about the creature. After fan demand, he released it despite the fact Mojang gave no new information.
  • The Warden was also referenced in "Lush Caves", as the description directly namedrops him as not the creature that Red and the Second Coming encounter.
