Thelonious Jaha is a major character in seasons one to five of the CW show, The 100.
He was portrayed by Isaiah Washington.
Description[]
Jaha was the Chancellor on the Ark and the father of Wells. He is, like Marcus Kane, tough on the laws and does not hesitate to float several Arkers to “preserve” the human race on the Ark. On the ground, he loses all power and position but will save a large part of the population by finding the Second Dawn Bunker and helping Octavia take back the hydrofarm after a betrayal by Sky People.
History[]
At the start of season one, he sends a hundred teenagers to Earth, including his own son, to determine if it is habitable again. He is also shot by Bellamy but is saved by Abby and sadly learns of Wells' death. While Sky People decides to go to Earth, Jaha decides to sacrifice himself and stay alone on the Ark to activate the descent of the ship.
Due to the lack of oxygen, in season two, Jaha hears and hallucinates a baby that he decides to rescue and keep with him. He then finds a nuclear missile to also go to Earth and lands in the middle of the desert. He is taken in by a family of Grounders and then locked up by the Trikru tribe with Marcus. After which Jaha leaves for Arkadia and decides to travel to the City of Light, although this is only a rumor. He recruits several residents of Arkadia and John Murphy. On the trip, they meet Emori and only Jaha and Murphy survive, Jaha having even sacrificed one of the men in the middle of the ocean who was killed by a giant mutated lamprey. Once on dry land, Jaha abandons Murphy and follows a drone to a mansion where he meets an A.L.I.E. hologram.
After ingesting the AI chip, Jaha unsuccessfully attempts to convince Murphy to take it and returns to Arkadia to do his propaganda. Being the spokesperson for A.L.I.E., Jaha snatches almost everyone, including Abby and Jackson, although resistance has formed and hidden. Jaha then goes to Polis where he tortures Kane so that he takes the chip and succeeds with Ontari, the leader of the village. Kane also gives in when Abby tortures herself and Jasper in Arkadia tries to prevent Raven and Monty from disabling the program of A.L.I.E. In a fight with the resistance against AI, Clarke saves everyone by disabling A.L.I.E. and Jaha is freed from her control.
In season four, Jaha blames himself for his actions, manipulated by the chip, and devotes himself to searching for bunker of the Second Dawn. Accompanied by Clarke and Bellamy, he finds the first disused and rotten bunker. He then found the second successfully located in Polis. In Arkadia, Jaha helps repair the Farm Station destroyed by Ilian and helps Clarke deal with people who complain that they are not on the list she wrote if everyone ever had to return to space. In the bunker, Octavia wants the other twelve clans to be in it too, but Jaha refuses. After causing a revolt, he and Kane decide to gas the population and choose who stays and who dies, as in season one.
In season five, Jaha only appears in a flashback at the start of this season. Having to take care of Ethan, a child whose father asked Jaha to take care of, the latter witnesses a betrayal caused by Kara Cooper. He fights an Azgeda warrior and is injured in the liver. He then heroically helps Octavia take over the hydro-farm and dies of his wounds under the tearful eyes of Kane, Abby and Jackson.
Trivia[]
- Like his son Wells, Jaha is the second main character to die at the start of a season of The 100. While Wells dies in the third episode of season one, Jaha dies in episode two of season five.
- He's also the first main character in season five to die, the second being Monty Green.
