Biography[]
Background[]
Thena, along with the other Eternals, was created by Arishem the Judge to get rid of the Deviants so their energy could be absorbed a new Celestial inside a of planet, leading to their emergence. The Eternals would be sent to numerous planets to kill the Deviants to start the emergence, and one of them was Centuri-Six. Thena realized that the people on the planet would be killed by the emergence, but was too late to stop it. She and the Eternals then had their memories wiped, but Thena kept most of them, leading to her to develop Mahd Wy'ry. She would eventually come to live on Earth on 5000 BC, where she would protect humanity from the Deviants.
During her time on Earth, Thena became a renowned warrior for centuries, becoming known as "Athena" during the Greek era, and later came across King Arthur. When fighting the Deviants in the 1500s, Thena started to suffer from her affliction and attacked her allies until she was knocked unconscious by Gilgamesh. Seeing that she was suffering from Mahd Wy'ry, Ajak sent her into exile as Gilgamesh wanted to stay at her side to heal her. The two moved to Australia in exile, where Thena would draw images and forget her identity until she was reminded by her partner.
Eternals[]
In Australia, Thena and Gilgamesh are attacked by a Deviant, but are able to kill the creature before Thena goes into another Mahd Wy'ry state. She proceeded to attack Gilgamesh as Ikaris, Sersi, Sprite and Kingo arrived, but she was able to return to her senses when Sprite cast an illusion of the Domo. The group reunited and had dinner, but Sersi came drawn to Thena's drawings, and decided to speak to Arishem with the communication sphere. Sersi then informed the others of the revelation of their true purpose, and gave the opnion that they should prevent the emergence to save humanity. The group then traveled to the Amazon Rainforest to speak with Druig, whom they believed could put the new Celestial Tiamut into a sedative state.
At Druig's compound, they were unable to convince him until the Deviants arrived, with Kro managing to kill Gilgamesh and take his powers. Thena was devastated by his death, and spread his ashes across the Amazon River while the others attended in mourning. After his funeral, Druig explained that he couldn't affect a Celestial, and the group decided to have Phastos create a device. Once Phastos was convinced to join them to find the Domo in Iraq, Ikaris revealed that he knew of their true purpose and assisted Kro in killing Ajak. The revelation startled Sersi, but Thena encouraged her to take leadership by telling her the words of Gilgamesh, but Thena was briefly captured by Kro. She was able to snap out of it by remembering her partner's words, and killed Kro and witnessed Sersi and the Eternals stop Tiamut's emergence.
After preventing the destruction of Earth, Thena joined Druig and Makkari in leaving Earth to find more Eternals and tell them the truth. During their journey on the Domo, they came across Starfox, who informed them that their friends was in danger. Unbeknownst to them, Arishem had captured Sersi, Kingo and Phastos to judge them for sabotaging the emergence.

Trivia[]
- She was previously mentioned in the Helstrom tv series.
- In the comics, Thena was born Azura, but her name was changed to resemble more the Greek goddess of Strategy and War, Athena. She mothered a son, Joey, with a human, Thomas Eliot. She is also the daughter of Zuras, and cousin of Thanos.
- In the comics, Thena had a long relationship with Kro and had two sons with him, Donald Ritter and Deborah Ritter. This contrast with both characters representation in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, as Kro killed Thena's lover, and Thena killed Kro.
- Her mental illness, the Mahd Wy'ri, is a consequence of her immortality making her mind support too many memories, even ones before earlier erases, which may break her mind from inside.
- Also, the first word, Mahd, is a pun with the word "mad".
