Ser Theodan Wells, also known as Theodan the True, is a minor character in the A Song of Ice and Fire novel series. He is a pious knight of unknown culture, given the fact that there are two houses with the name Wells, with one in the North and the other in Dorne, making it unknown on which house he is descended from. Ser Theodan is one of the first knights who joined the newly-revived Faith Militant, becoming the first commander of the Warriors' Sons, the Faith Militant's upper order.

Biography[]

A Feast for Crows[]

After the new High Septon, also mockingly known as the High Sparrow, manipulated Queen Regent Cersei Lannister into overturning the laws enacted by King Maegor I Targaryen, in exchange for forgiving the debt the Iron Throne had owed to the Faith, this allowed the Faith Militant to be reborn. Hearing of its revival, Ser Theodan Wells is among the first knights who pledged their service to the Warriors' Sons and he was appointed as its first commander. Following the arrest of Queen Margaery Tyrell, under the accusation of having committed fornication, adultery, and presenting herself as a virgin beneath the Maiden's altar, Theodan accompanies Cersei as she goes to visit the High Sparrow at the Great Sept of Baelor.

A Dance of Dragons[]

Cersei was arrested by the Faith, as she was accused of several charges, such as deicide (her murder of the previous High Septon), regicide (her assassination of King Robert I Baratheon), fornication (sleeping with Ser Osney Kettleblack and her cousin Ser Lancel Lannister), and incest (having an incestuous relationship with her twin brother Ser Jaime and having children with him). After she confessed to charges of fornication due to being the lesser ones, but denied all the other more severe ones, so as to avoid the death penalty, Theodan Wells was charged by the High Sparrow with leading the Warrior's Sons and Poor Fellows escort so they would protect Cersei, as she walks barefoot all the way from the Great Sept of Baelor to the Red Keep as part of her walk of atonement, while also accompanied by Septas Scolera, Moelle and Unella, who lead the whole punishment.

As a now-naked and bald Cersei makes her journey to the Red Keep, Theodan (alongside Ser Lancel Lannister) was present throughout, in which he and the escort of Poor Fellows and Warrior's Sons protect her from a crowd of smallfolk, as they harass her and even pelt her with vegetables. When the smallfolk became more worked up and were growing violent and restless, Theodan proceeded to drag Cersei to the Red Keep so as to quickly finish the Walk of Atonement.
