Heroine Overview

Thirteen, also known as Ms. Plum, is one of the two deuteragonists (alongside Dai Bo) of the donghua series Scissor Seven. As her name implies, she is the 13th daughter of the Plum Blossom Swordsman, an assassin from Xuanwu, and a member of the Killer League.

As a child, she wanted to maintain a swordsman's skill from her father, secretly learning from the techniques of the latter. She later discovered that the Swordsman had a son, which led her mother alongside Thirteen to leave home. Alone in the woods, Thirteen had witnessed her mother's death while sacrificing her own life saving her from strangers, so she joined the Killer League so as to have revenge on her father.

Thirteen is assigned by her master Green Phoenix to kill Seven to stop the assassination war. She fails countless times to assassinate Seven and gets stopped by Seven's flirty and arrogant behavior. Afterwards, Green Phoenix assigns her to protect Seven at all costs so his people from Chicken Island can have peace.

She is voiced by Duan Yixuan in Mandarin/Cantonese and Jennie Kwan (who also voiced Suki and Chun-Li) in English. As a child, she is voiced by Zeng Rong.

Appearance[]

Thirteen is a young, beautiful girl with black hair that reaches her ankle (that can appear as green, blue or even purple occasionally depending on the light), with the left side being styled in a diamond-shaped braid with a polearm tied to the end of it as a weapon, and a bang on the right side that reaches her chin. She has light teal eyes that turn red during battle at times, and a mole under both eyes.

Her standard outfit is a shin-length turquoise qipao with a light blue panel on the right shoulder, a long-sleeved black shirt and black leggings under it, black boots with sword seaths strapped to her shins. In her debut, she also wears a white mask with black slits for eyes, that is destroyed during her fight with Seven.

In Season 3 episode 4, she wears a white sundress.

Personality[]

Due to her traumatic past and being raised as an assassin, Thirteen is initially cold and aloof whilst taking pride in her own skills. She is absolutely loyal to her master Green Phoenix, ruthless and willing to kill people without mercy. Seven breaking her mask and flirting with her only anger her further, as she sees those and him escaping her clutch a humilation.

However, after Seven saves her from a blast, Thirteen begins to feel indebted to him and reveals to him the Killer League's plans. Afterwards, she acts like a tsundere whenever Seven tries to hit on her during their encounters. The series also slowly shows other facets of her, such as willingness to protect people she cares about, and determination in defending Seven despite her own injuries caused by her falling from the sky. She also possesses a tactical mind during fights, as seen when she manages to take the opportunity to destroy Black Bird's whip.

Biography[]

Background[]

Thirteen is the thirteenth daughter of the Plum Blossom Swordsman, who expected a son only to get thirteen daughters. After seeing him duel for the first time, she learned in secret in hope of making him proud and becoming his apprentice. However, her father later remarried again and got a son this time around, exactly as he wanted, and Thirteen noted that this was the first time she ever saw him smile. Thirteen's mother took her and left home, although Thirteen herself stated that she didn't know if her mother did it willingly or forcibly by her father.

When she and her mother were attacked by a group of martial artists, Thirteen fought against them and even killed one to protect her mother. Unfortunately, this was to no avail as her mother ended up being killed by her father's enemies regardless. An assassin known as Green Phoenix would then kill them, and Thirteen, determined to defeat every man, including her father, asked him to train her. Initially, Green Phoenix refused but tested her via making Thirteen follow him and survive the harsh winter on an island he had multiple targets on. After finishing his work, he was accepted into the Killer League and took her as his apprentice, and she cut part of her hair to signify her new life as an assassin-in-training.

During the four years training with Blue Phoenix within the mountains, Thirteen once fought a pack of wolves that Blue Phoenix eventually killed, and saved a little girl that turned out to be a snake demon, though her master came to her aid in time. The latter event was what responsible for Thirteen becoming more callous and distant.

At an unknown point, she assassinated Professor Chen Jiajie of Stan.

Season 1[]

Aware of Seven's survival, Green Phoenix sends Thirteen to assassinate him. She meets him just after he was attacked by a Stan robot and destroys it. Recognizing the Killer League's token that Seven possesses, Thirteen is intrigued by his secret identity but the robot's self-destruction prevents her from attacking him. She later targets Mad Bark, who is actually Seven disguising as a dog. When the two fight, Seven destroys her mask, so she tries to kill him to preserve her secret identity, only to accidentally kiss him in the process. Seven develops a crush on her from that point onwards and would try to hit on her every chance he has. Even her attempt to ambush him fails thanks to He Dachun's Indestructible Virgin technique.

When Stan attempts to invade Chicken Island, Thirteen, Seven and Xiao Fei fight the Prince of Stan. After Seven pushes her away from a blast, Thirteen feels that she owes him her life. After being mortally wounded, she sees Seven's skills and is surprised by them, so she uses Heavenly Watchful Eyes to show the fight to Green Phoenix, who then orders her to kill Seven and bring back the Thousand Demon Daggers.

Season 2[]

After the invasion is dealt with, Thirteen once again tries to kill Seven, so he asks for some rules since he can't win against her alone. She agrees and tells him that if he can't dodge her three moves, he will disappear and never show his face to her ever again, and Seven tells her that she will go out with him for a date if he wins. The fight is then interrupted by a third party: Thirteen's older sister, Eleven, who tries to kill both of them with her darts, but Seven protects Thirteen from them. Thirteen feels indebted to Seven again and says that he has won the fight and returns him his sword, to which he refuses since he prefers scissors. She then tells him about the Killer League's hit list and that she chose not to put him there due to the blood debt, and advises him to leave the Island or else she will kill him. However, she still comes later to aid him when he injures himself during the fight with Captain Jack.

Upon realizing that Thirteen can't bring herself to kill Seven, Green Phoenix asks for the truth and she explains everything. He then tells her that he will repay the debt by saving Seven again from Redtooth. After Green Phoenix kills Redtooth, he warns Seven to return to Xuanwu to kill the Killer League Leader. Realizing that Seven has left, Thirteen is determined to meet him again, using the excuse that she wants to be the only one to kill him.

Season 3[]

Being allowed by Green Phoenix to meet Seven for the last time, Thirteen wears a white dress and waits for him at the ocean. With the debt being paid, Green Phoenix orders her to kill Seven for real, but she is hesitant due to having grown a soft spot for him. Her master tells her that she can choose to abandon the task, but it will result in her assassin life's end and him disowning her.

She later meets Seven at the shine. He asks her out for lunch to continue small talk, but she stabs him out of shock, only to feel guilty after seeing the Black Jade medicine he gave her and decide to return it to him. Surprisingly, Seven absorbs the dagger and seems unharmed. Before Thirteen can say anything, they are attacked by the Eyeless Sorcerer by his prayer beads. She then finds out the dagger's true nature as Seven starts showing pain. The Eyeless Sorcerer then forces Thirteen to choose between killing Seven and protecting him and being hunted down by the Killer League, but she chooses the former out of immense guilt. The enraged sorcerer then attacks Seven in an attempt to finish him off despite Thirteen being in the attacking zone, only for Seven's old self returns and protects her with the Thousand Demon Daggers. Both Thirteen and the Eyeless Sorcerer are shocked by this since Seven is supposed to be in Beast mode and unconscious after being stabbed. When the sorcerer is thinking of where did he go wrong, Thirteen chases Seven into the forest.

After Thirteen protects Seven from a purple-clothed assassin, the two go on a hiding in the abandoned store and have a heart-to-heart conversation. The next day, Seven goes off of his own again and ends up in a giant statue where he is pursued by both Manjusaka and Shimen. When Black Bird appears and attacks Thirteen, Seven wants to help her but ends up succumbing to the Dark Frost Blade's effects and goes unconcious where he remembers his past memories of his interations with the Girl in White. After regaining his conciousness, he uses the Thousand Demon Daggers to protect Thirteen from Black Bird.

Season 4[]

While Black Bird is holding Thirteen hostage, Seven goes up towards him and saves Thirteen from his grip. Despite all the struggles he has while fighting Black Bird, Seven manages to take advantage of his weakness against the sunlight and defeats him by stabbing in the chest, but only for him to be almost getting stabbed in the head by Black Bird's wings. However, it turns out that he only survives due to the Thousand Demon Daggers absorbing the darkness from Black Bird's body. After Black Bird's death, he is eventually knocked down by Manjusaka, who hits him with Spider Lily flowers until Dai Bo and Xiao Fei finally arrive and save him and Thirteen.

After this, Thirteen decides to stop trying to kill Seven and instead protect him from the Killer League assassins sent to kill him.

Season 5[]

After being freed from the Thousand Demon Daggers' dark influence, Seven is warned by Hua not to use it too much or it'll risk his own body until he dies, before he and Dai Bo are sent back to Xuanwu to find Thirteen. They eventually reach to the Plum Blossom Villa, but learn that Thirteen has left the villa all by herself. Despite this, Seven refuses to back down and still wants to find her no matter what.

Trivia[]

  • Thirteen's assassin rank is 37.
  • Her Chinese name, Meihua, means "plum blossom/plum flower" (梅花).
  • One interesting thing to note is that Thirteen's name is considered the unlucky number, and her rival-turned-love interest Seven's name is considered the lucky number by Christians, further adding to their contrast.
