Thoma, also called the Protector from Afar, is a supporting character in the 2020 action role-playing fantasy video game Genshin Impact, serving as the one of the two central protagonists of Chapter II of the Archon Quests (alongside Yae Miko, being the main deuteragonist of the prologue, first and second acts, as well as being a major protagonist of the third act.
Thoma was a native of the City of Freedom Mondstadt who eventually moved to the nation of Inazuma where he found work as the Chief Retainer of the Kamisato Clan. Due to his work and his friendly personality, Thoma was able to build himself an impressive network of powerful associates in Inazuma despite his status as a foreigner. He grew close with the young heads of the Kamisato Clan Ayaka and Ayato.
When the God of Eternity Beelzebul who ruled over Inazuma introduced a radical policy called the Vision Hunt Decree that demanded every Vision bearer to relinquish their Vision, Thoma and his Kamisato masters helped those affected negatively and secretly facilitated various resistance sects. Ultimately however, it was a legendary Traveler who was able to convince the God of Eternity to put an end to the Vision Hunt Decree rather than the Kamisato Clan.
Thoma is voiced by Christian Banas in English and by Masakazu Morita in Japanese. Morita has also voiced Ichigo Kurosaki in Bleach, Whis in Dragon Ball Super, Ri Shin from Kingdom, Tidus in Final Fantasy X, Marco the Phoenix in One Piece, and Pegasus Seiya in Saint Seiya.
Appearance[]
A native of Mondstadt, Thoma was a tall young man with green eyes. His messy blond hair was short on the top and tied into a pony tail at the back of his head. He wore a short-sleeved brown shirt, blue trousers, a short open red jacket with brown sleeves, brown sandal boots with white socks, a black metal headband, a metal pendant around his neck, brown fingerless gloves, red cloth tied around his waist, and leather armor plates over the top of the aforementioned cloth. The clothing he wore was of the style unique to Inazuma, and many golden threads and other minor decorations could be found on his outfit.
Personality[]
Thoma is known by Inazumans to be a "helper" — helping everyone out and ensuring that any issues are quickly and peacefully resolved.
The son of an Inazuman father and Mondstadter mother, Thoma shares the traits seen in both nations' peoples; his father placed a great emphasis on loyalty while being raised in Mondstadt meant that he could easily mingle with most people. He believes that people should happily enjoy a leisurely life and does not particularly care about his reputation, even if people speak ill of him. He originally went to Inazuma to bring his father Dandelion Wine, but after falling overboard, he ended up in Inazuma with no connections and Mora. Despite the dangers he faced at the time, Thoma was able to make the most of his situation and eventually obtained the Kamisato Clan's trust. He is an efficient worker, resolving all of the Kamisato Clan's issues in a timely order.
He places great loyalty on the Kamisato Clan. Despite his easy-going appearance, he shows no mercy to those who threaten the Kamisato siblings and the Yashiro Commission. He does not use his connections for personal gains.
Equipment[]
- Pyro Vision: Thoma's Vision, which took the form of a red jewel-like pendant attached to his belt, allowed him to channel elemental energy in bursts and unleash it with devastating effects. The element that he could manipulate was Pyro, meaning he was capable of projecting powerful flames from his body at will. He could also imbue his weapon of choice with the Pyro element, and his most prominent technique allowed him to conjure force fields made purely out of elemental energy that could shield himself and his allies from harm.
