That is a warning. You are no match for our kung fu.
~ Master Thundering Rhino to Lord Shen and his last words before his death.

Thundering Rhino (called also Master Thundering Rhino or simply Rhino) is a supporting character in the Kung Fu Panda franchise.

He is the Master of Kung Fu at Gongmen City, the leader of Master Couincil and Flying Rhino’s son. He saved the China from Wu Sisters alongside Storming Ox and Croc, until he met Lord Shen.

He was voiced by Paul Scheer, who also played Mysterio in Ultimate Spider-Man series, in Secrets of the Masters, by Jonathan Groff in Kung Fu Panda Holiday, and by Victor Garber in Kung Fu Panda 2.

Personality[]

As a young Rhino he was aggressive, short-tempered, tense and arrogant, as Croc says the fact that his father, the Flying Rhino, is a famous Kung Fu master, does not make Rhino a winner. However, he had a more honorable sense than Ox and Croc, because he wasn't Street-Fighter just for money but to make his father proud of him, he still wanted for a bit of greed to have money, but above all to be up to it. of his father. Eventually, Rhino no longer wanted the money and did as Oogway said "Follow the Path", and seeing the misery caused by the Wu Sisters, he convinced Ox and Croc to follow him to defeat them.

Having become the leader of the Master Council, Rhino became wiser and more benevolent and with a refined kindness and sense of humor. It was seen that he appreciated Po's decision to celebrate the winter party with his father instead of hosting the formal party at the Jade Palace, and joined him at the party at the noodle shop, entertaining a group of children with stories about one of his adventures.

Rhino's pity and respect for others may be due to his experience with Croc, when they defeated a criminal in battle Croc was about to deliver a fatal blow, but Rhino convinced him to stop and use his Kung Fu to benefit of others.

History[]

Beginning[]

Master Thundering Rhino was born into a great dynasty of Kung Fu masters and was raised and trained by his father Flying Rhino, so it can be said that he was good at fighting right from the start. One of his best legendary feats was killing the Ten Thousand Snakes in the Valley of Woe.

Secrets of the Masters[]

In the flashback that follows told by Po, it is told that Rhino spent his days fighting on the streets as a Street-Fighter using his "Unstoppable Force" to earn riches, but above all to earn his father's pride.

One day he had a three-way street fight with Storming Ox and Croc who started slaughtering each other, the fight was observed by Oogway as they he took a capuccino and was not impressed by it, but when he noticed that Wu Sisters had escaped from prison (which was nearby) he thought of using this opportunity to make the three fighters think and change them for the better.

The fight of Rhino, Ox and Croc ended in a tie and therefore they gave as a prize only one coin to be divided into three, so a fight began between the three of them that there was a risk that they would start fighting each other again. Fortunately, Oogway appeared before they could start fighting again, in which Croc mistook him for a fan of his and wanted to give them an autograph, however, when Oogway said who he really was, Rhino was surprised. When Oogway informed the trio that the Wu Sisters had escaped from prison and were headed for their fortress, Wu Fortress, they were all shocked.

Oogway said the four of them had to stop them using their special abilities, but they refused unless they got something in return, despite Oogway saying this was a heroic mission to save innocent people, eventually convinced them that once the mission is over, they would get the "wealth of riches". Rhino saw this as an opportunity to make his father proud and therefore agreed with Ox and Croc.

So, Rhino, Ox and Croc along with Oogway set out for the Wu Fortress and to find the riches they were looking for, crossing dangerous obstacles throughout China. During the trip in the Bamboo Forest, Rhino tried to convince Oogway to continue without Ox and Croc and that he would share his swag with him, while they tried to do the same with both, but Oogway disinterested them. he ignored.

As night fell, all by the fire the three fantasized about what to do with their wealth, Rhino preferred to remain silent considering his personal intentions. But Oogway had already understood that it was him and his father so he decided to give a little advice to the three: when the path one takes always leads back to themselves, they will never get anywhere unless they "change course". Before they could stand on the porch, Oogway learned the news that the Wu Sisters were gathering all the evil clans to besiege the whole of China and left immediately to get to the fortress as soon as possible.

To encourage the three to change their course, they passed an extremely dangerous path called the Bridge of Mists. When asked how they were going to cross it, Oogway in response threw all three of them on the pillars of the rocks and they had to hold on tight to the edges, but this was a lesson in cooperation and Oogway crossed the bridge they invented and pulled up Rhino so he lifted. Croc and Ox.

As they climbed the Wu Fortress, the three finally realized that Oogway was metaphorical when he spoken of "Riches", and Rhino's protests caused them, Ox and Croc to fall on a large boulder in the lava with his heavy footsteps smashing. the ledge on which they stood. Oogway managed to save them before falling to his apparent death by leaving them the message "Remember the path". The three were put off by Oogway's apparent death and thought they would always be Street-Fighters losers and thought about going home, despite Rhino being a little reluctant to do so. However, on the way home they passed through a village devastated by the Wu Sisters, the villagers were desperately trying to hire them as their saviors, Rhino was encouraged and even refused the pay they offered them and convinced Ox and Croc to go back on the right steps to stop Wu Sisters.

The former Street-Fighters broke into the Wu Sisters Hall just as they were planning to attack China with all the evil clans and when they reveal that they are not doing it for money they scared all the evil clans and left the Wu Sisters to fight them alone. Initially the Wu Sisters prevailed, but then Rhino said that if they do it together, they can beat them, the three combined their talents: Ox deduced that the tail knot in the center of the vortex was their weakness, Corc therefore with his tough hide temporarily stopped the Wu's whirlwind and placed it in the perfect position so that Rhino could butt and part them, then they fought together until the Wu Sisters were locked up under a large statue head.

After winning the battle, Oogway revealed himself alive and had captured all the evil gangs gathered and the three were so happy, revealing that they had found the true riches they sought with a higher honor, Oogway reassured Rhino that his father would be very proud of him as he was.

According to Po, after these events Oogway sent Rhino and his fellow warriors on a journey that eventually took them to Gongmen City where they formed the Council of Masters, with Rhino as the leader.

Kung Fu Panda Holiday[]

Master Thundering Rhino is one of twenty-nine representatives at Jade Palace's formal Winter Feast dinner. When Po gave his speech to the twenty-nine reps, Rhino was highly regarded for being "more awesomely skilled and ... wrinkly than [he] 'd ever dreamed [he]' d be,", but Rhino doesn't take this. with kindness.

However, he and the other reps are moved by Po's determination to be a good son rather than a host and set off with the other masters persuaded to Mr. Ping's noodle shop.

All the guests present in the restaurant were surprised by the arrival of the masters and thus the celebrations began, in which Rhino tells some rabbit children about his adventure with the "crocodile thief".

Decades after Thundering Rhino, Storming Ox and Croc assumed responsibility for Gongmen City after the Legitimate Rulers died alongside Soothsayer, Thundering Rhino together an Ox and Croc train in Kung Fu in the courtyard, until Lord Shen bursts into it to confront them. Although they are surprised that Shen has returned after all these years, Rhino stated that Gongmen City was under the protection of Master Couincil, that they would never give it to him and that they would protect it even from him.

Shen is glad that he thinks so as some of his wolves push a large wooden crate into the yard, after Ox asks what's in the crate, Shen sadly replies that it's their "parting gift" that would have them slowly. divided. Outraged, Ox and Croc jump on Shen’s attack and are defeated by him, but Rhino breaks his blades and pushes him back with his Cloud Hammer and Shen calls this "exhibitionism". This defeat is a warning from Rhino that Shen cannot compete with their Kung Fu, Shen agrees, but declares that the one inside the box is, and thus reveals his dragon-shaped cannon weapon. Rhino prepares to fight, but is killed the first shot from the cannon.

Rhino's Cloud Hammer is then placed mounted in the central square of the palace both as a warning to others and as a trophy for Lord Shen.

Thundering Rhino was avenged when Po defeated Shen and Shen being killed in the aftermath.
