Tiffany Mitchell is a fictional character and major protagonist of the BBC British soap opera EastEnders. She debuted in January 1995 and became one of the show's central protagonists up until the character was killed off at the end of 1998, before reappearing as a corpose in 4th January 1999 and then serving as a posthumous protagonist for the rest of the year onwards.
Tiffany Raymond first came to Albert Square, the market town of fictional East London borough Walford, in early January 1995. She quickly settles herself in Walford after getting a job in The Queen Victoria public house, working as a barmaid and winning over the punters due to her charisma and attractive nature.
Soon enough, Tiffany catches the attention of the pub's landlord Grant Mitchell and the two begin a relationship with each other. This is nearly threatened when Tiffany gets reacquainted with neighbour Tony Hills, who is romantically involved with her brother Simon. At one point Tiffany has one-night stand with Tony, but she rejects him upon learning of his relationship with Simon behind her back. Tiffany later marries Grant in 1996 and is soon pregnant, but is unsure whether Grant or Tony could be the father of her baby.
By then, Tiffany's marriage with Grant is already facing complications. Grant refuses to allow Tiffany to socialise or drink alcohol, fearing that it may harm his unborn child. After Grant witnesses Tiffany drinking a cocktail, he is incesned with her. Tiffany threatens to leave him and Grant lashes out before her colleague, Lorraine Wicks, intervenes on the pair's disagreement. Lorraine consoles a distraught Tiffany, who breaks down and admits that Grant may not be her baby's father. Lorraine tries to convince Tiffany to tell Grant the truth, but Tiffany decides against it and continues to keep up the pretence. However, on New Year's Eve 1996, Lorraine tells Grant that he may not be the baby's father. Grant thereupon confronts Tiffany and dumps her, leaving Tiffany devastated.
In 1997, Tiffany is upset to learn that Grant and Lorraine had kissed on Christmas Day 1996 due to the pair having romantic affections for each other. Her attempts to reconcile with Grant initially prove unsuccessful when he rejects and denounces her, but then Tiffany goes into labour during an argument; Grant rushes her to hospital and supports Tiffany as she gives birth to her baby - a girl named Courtney. Afterwards, the child's father is revealed to be Grant and he reacts happily to the news. Grant eventually reconciles with Tiffany after his romance with Lorraine falls apart and he also takes pity on Tiffany when she makes a confession to him - as a child, Tiffany was subject to physical violence from her estranged father Terry Raymond and at one point he shoved her down a flight of stairs that resulted in Tiffany suffering a miscarraige.
Not long after their reconciliation in August 1997, Grant and Tiffany renew their wedding vows and bond on a romantic trip to Paris. It is there Tiffany encounters Grant's brother, Phil Mitchell, having a drunken stupor and attempts to reason with him; Phil denounces this and upsets Tiffany by telling her that Grant doesn't love her as much as he loved his first wife Sharon Watts. Later on, Tiffany questions Grant about what Phil said to her and worries that he may be right; Grant reassures Tiffany that she means more to him nowdays and that Sharon is in the past. However, the couple later fall out with each other again towards Christmas 1997 and Grant gets abusive in the end.
Shortly afterwards, Tiffany leaves to see her best-friend Bianca Jackson. She tells her about the incident and Bianca urges Tiffany to leave Grant, but later on Grant apologizes to Tiffany for his actions and pleads for another chance; Tiffany agrees with Grant and upsets Bianca with her decision. However, they have another row when Tiffany finds out that Grant secretly harbours romantic feelings for Phil's ex-wife Kathy Beale and confronts him about it. Grant nearly gets physically abusive with Tiffany again until his mother Peggy, who has come to see Tiffany as a surrogate daughter, comes to her defense. Tiffany later witnesses Grant slapping Peggy in an argument and confronts him about it.
By 1998, Tiffany finds herself falling in love with former police officer Beppe Di Marco when the latter and his family arrive on the square. Beppe soon develops a crush on Tiffany and ends up having a feud with Grant due to the two men being on opposite sides of the law, with Beppe also resenting Grant for his treatment towards Tiffany. At one point Tiffany flirts with Beppe's brother Gianni, but ends up more interested in Beppe as time goes on. Beppe soon urges Tiffany to leave Grant, but she ultimately chooses Grant over Beppe after deciding to give her marriage one last chance.
During this time, Tiffany reconciles with her father Terry after he makes amends with her and Simon. It is then Tiffany's mother, Louise, arrives on the square and seeks to make amends with the family for her absence. This works successfully and life seems to be perfect for Tiffany due to her marriage with Grant improving and her family relationships being mended. However, Tiffany is unaware that Grant and Louise are having an affair behind her back. She finally discovers the truth after overhearing Grant and Louise arguing over their affair in a baby monitor.
In December 1998, Tiffany decides to leave Grant and elope with Beppe to start anew with Courtney. She is stopped when Grant discovers her plan, and Tiffany confronts him over his affair with her mother. An argument erupts that culiminates with Tiffany falling down the stairs; she is rushed to hospital and everyone believes that Grant pushed her down the stairs. While it later transpires that Grant is innocent, Beppe plans to frame him for attempted murder - as he, Bianca, Simon, Terry, and Louise all blame Grant for what has happened to Tiffany. Soon enough Tiffany regains conciousness and Beppe convinces her that Grant pushed her down the stairs; she reluctantly reports Grant to the police and he is arrested for attempted murder. However, Tiffany later realizes that Grant is innocent and breaks up with Beppe for it.
On New Year's 1998, Tiffany plans to leave the square before Grant is released - as she is unwilling to forgive him for betraying their marriage - and is determined to take Courtney with her. However, Grant is released on bail and finds out about Tiffany's plan. He retrieves Courtney just as Tiffany turns up to collect her. Tiffany then tells Grant they are finished for good and he refuses to let her leave with their baby. Grant then flees with Courtney and causes Tiffany to chase him. However, as she chases Grant down the road on the snow, Tiffany runs into a car driven by Bianca's father-in-law Frank Butcher; she reacts too late and is consequently struck by the vehicle. Moments later, as New Year celebrates 1999, a helpless crowd rush to the scene; Tiffany briefly stares at a guilt-ridden Grant holding Courtney in his arms before she sccumbs to her injuries and dies in front of everyone.
The day after Tiffany's death, Grant is completely guilt-ridden for the events that practically killed his wife. At the same time, he is blamed by Tiffany's family along with Beppe and Bianca for causing her death. Then on the day of Tiffany's funeral, Grant is further shamed when his affair with Louise is exposed. It is then Tiffany gets cremated and her ashes are scattered at Peacehaven.
