I was property too once. A house Cog for the Widow's husband. And every night... after she went to sleep... he would knock on my door. He could have had any Doll in Wall Street. But he didn't want them. You can't pay a Doll to love you, he said. Not like his little Tilda.
~ Tilda.

Tilda, also known as The Iron Rabbit, is one of the two tritagonists (alongside Bajie) of the AMC series Into the Badlands.

A former Cog and the victim of severe abuse, Tilda has been trained by the Widow, a powerful Baron and her adoptive mother. While she starts the series dedicated to her mothers cause, she eventually comes to realize the Widow's hypocrisy and abandons her in order to become "The Iron Rabbit" a vigilante who fights to help everyone who has been hurt by the war for the Badlands.

She was portrayed by Ally Ioannides.

Tilda as "The Iron Rabbit"

Tilda initially looks similar to the other Butterfly Clippers in her mothers territory, having short hear and wearing the standard blue robes. However, this changes after she is promoted to Regent, and she is given a black combat suit that matches the one worn by the Widow herself.

Later after abandoning the Widow and becoming the Iron Rabbit, Tilda begins to wear heavier clothing made up of both orange and green fabrics. This serves as armor in stark contrast to the loose robes she previously wore as a Butterfly Clipper, and also contains a hood and mask for the sake of disguising her identity.

Personality[]

Tilda is typically very polite and kind to those she meets, but her past experiences can cause her to lash out in volatile anger whenever she deals with someone who she considers to be an enemy to her or her mothers ideals. Despite the clear difference between her mother and her own personalities, she is fiercely loyal to the Widow and her mission to change the Badlands for the better, due to her own experience of being repeatedly sexually abused by the Widow's husband when she was a Cog, and the fact that the Widow herself was the one who killed the former Baron and saved Tilda from the abuse. Although Tilda does not share her mothers misandry, being willing to kill both men and women alike without hesitation and developing a romance with a boy named M.K. and even helping him to escape from the Widow's territory. Ultimately, despite the clear differences between them, Tilda could generally be swayed back to the Widow's side of an idealistic divide due to the fact that the Widow is actively fighting for a better world, where people like Tilda would not be abused as children.

Tilda does end up abandoning the Widow to become the Iron Rabbit, due to it becoming clear the the Widow is a hypocrite. The first division comes from the Widow's treatment of M.K., attempting to turn him into a weapon against the other Barons due to him possessing supernatural chi abilities known as the Gift. Tilda believes that M.K. should not be used against his will, and actively tries to help him. The key event that causes Tilda to leave the Widow is when she sells out Veil and her newborn son Henry to Baron Quinn because she wants to work with Quinn to take down the other Barons. This compromise of her ideals ultimately severs their relationship, and as the Iron Rabbit Tilda works against both the Widow and other Barons alike. While the Widow does eventually redeem herself, their relationship never quite gets back to where it was originally. By the end of the series Tilda agrees to once again be the Widow's ally against enemies such as Baron Chau and Pilgrim, but makes it clear she does not want to be her Regent ever again. That being said, they do once again consider each other mother and daughter, as Tilda's last act in the series is her willingly taking a stab wound for the Widow when M.K. attempts to murder her.

Powers & Abilities[]

  • Martial Arts/Swordsmanship: Tilda is a highly skilled warrior, able to overpower opponents of vastly superior strength through the use of her speed and precision. She improves significantly over the course of the series, initially struggling against the Clippers from Quinn's territory due to their brutal fighting style, but eventually managing to overcome this through extensive training and even becoming capable enough to hold off Dark Ones in combat for a short time.
  • Leadership: Tilda is eventually promoted to Regent by her mother, thus being put in charge of the territories Clipper force. Later after having left the Widow's forces and becoming the Iron Rabbit, Tilda effectively leads a refugee camp and vigilante force for several months before the war came to an end.
