Toads, also known as the Mushroom People or simply Mushrooms, are a species of humanoid mini-humans mushrooms and supporting-major characters in Super Mario franchise. They live in the Mushroom Kingdoom, and they are native to almost every city in the entire kingdom, including Rogueport, but most prominently Toad Town. Many Toads are also loyal servants and citizens to Princess Peach and the Mushroom Kingdom.

In general, Toads are secondary or recurring characters who task Mario and Luigi with certain adventures. However, certain Toads have appeared as playable characters in certain video games, most notably Toad. As in New Super Mario Bros. Wii and New Super Mario Bros. U. Captain Toad from Super Mario Galaxy plays his own title in Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker. Toad, being the most well-known member of the Toads, is the most faithful helper of Mario and Peach, after his debut in Super Mario Bros. 2. And it even had its own spin-off. Other Toads, Toadette, Toadsworth and the Toad Brigade organization have important roles in video games.
