Tomás Heredia is one of the two deuteragonists (alongside León Vargas) in the first season of the Disney Channel Argentine series Violetta.

He's a gifted guy who can play the guitar and piano, and one of Violetta's two love interests. He started attending Studio 21 thanks to a scholarship from Beto who hired him as his assistant. He is from Spain but moved to Buenos Aires to take care of his grandmother but also worked at Restó Bar under the supervision of his grouchy boss, Luca. He is Francesca's closest friend (also secret love interest) and Leon's first archenemy in winning Violetta's heart.

He is portrayed by Pablo Espinosa.

Personality[]

Tomas is attractive, simple, and confident. All his songs reflect his personality and his quest as an artist. When he worked in Resto Bar, Luca always quarreled with him about that he's not doing his job and that he is sabotaging the business, but in reality, he's not like that and he always tries to put everything into his work. This shows that he is very responsible and honest. He also sometimes has sort of a hypocritical attitude, especially when he is fooled by Ludmila into believing that Violetta is not a good person, shown when Violetta had the idea of getting Tomas's father a job so that he wouldn't have to return to Spain, but it was overheard by Ludmila who stole and claimed it as her own, causing a disagreement between the two of them, or when he blamed Violetta for the loss of his job at Resto Bar due to German threatening Luca into having his business shut down. Nevertheless, Tomas eventually realized how a bully Ludmila really was and severed ties with her.

History[]

Season 1[]

Tomas used to work at Resto Bar for Luca, who would sometimes yell at him for not doing his job properly, which is in reality not true because he's very responsible with the deliveries he's made to do, something only seen by his closest friend Francesca, also Luca's innocent-looking yet easily jealous sister, who secretly harbors feelings for Tomas, which he is oblivious about. He met Violetta while the two of them were casually walking outside during a raging rainstorm, blowing off steam after bad days; Tomas, after another reprimand from Luca, when Leon and his friend Andres trashed the restaurant as revenge on him after misinterpreting that he wanted to steal Ludmila, his girlfriend, away from him, and Violetta who is fed up with her father's overprotective attitude towards her. Violetta trips on a puddle and Tomas quickly catches her; the two exchange nervous looks before Violetta walks away. From that moment on, they started falling for each other, something that would complicate things because Leon falls for Violetta as well, which further fuels the new feud between them, while Violetta, now aware of Francesca's crush on Tomas, tries unsuccessfully many times to push him away out of loyalty for the new friendship between both girls.

Later, Tomas joins the Studio 21, where he makes new friends, pursues his singing talent and he becomes Beto's assistant under a scholarship. Still, his life is made impossible by both Leon, who eyes Violetta's heart, and Gregorio, the overbearing and strict dancing teacher who constantly tries to find any excuse to have Tomas expelled, but both Antonio and Pablo insist that he stay, as Gregorio believes Tomas doesn't meet the necessary qualities to enter the school and because Tomas is always getting him injured, albeit unintentionally. Violetta's father, German, is shown to have a hatred for the boy, believing him to be a bad influence for her, siding only with Leon. Ludmila, Leon's now ex-girlfriend, also wants Tomas for herself and manipulates him into believing Violetta is not the person he thinks she is, which succeeds for a while (also with them starting a relationship), but Tomas eventually sees through the lies and cuts all ties with Ludmila. Tomas later starts dating Francesca after confessing to their feelings, but a misunderstanding leads the furious Francesca to assume that Violetta stole Tomas from her, knowing that they were friends. Francesca breaks up with Tomas as a result of this, as does Tomas who doesn't want to be with someone who won't trust tim. However, everything is cleared and she makes up with Tomas, but tells him that they should remain friends. Tomas and Leon still fight for Violetta, the two of them showing up at her house to serenade her, with their struggles escalating into a fight, before they are caught and chased off by German. Later, the angered Violetta says that she doesn't want to be with either of them. After German finds out about Violetta's attendance to the Studio and grounds her (also threatening to move away to Qatar), both Tomas and Leon temporarily give up their pursuit of Violetta to convince him to change his decision, to no avail. Then they join the others in bidding farewell to Violetta, alongside Pablo and Antonio. Just as Violetta walks out of the Studio for (supposedly) the last time, she crosses again with Tomas, echoing their first encounter in the rain, but this time kissing, before being interrupted by German who came by the Studio looking for Angie. Violetta tells Leon and Tomas that she prefers to stay alone for the time being. As they drive to the airport, German finally decides to support Violetta's dream and let her continue attending the school. Violetta arrives at the final show, to everyone's and Toma's delight, before joining them onstage, though not before letting Violetta know that he is returning to Spain because he might get a chance to become a singer.

Season 2[]

Tomas doesn't appear in the second season because of his return to Spain and it is not known whether Violetta, Francesca or the others are still in touch with him and how is he going with his fledging singing career. Nevertheless, he is seen/mentioned six times, appearing in a flashback shared by Leon and Violetta. His mentions regard mainly mirror the first season's past events. When Diego, a new kid with an arrogant attitude, starts pursuing Violetta who rejects his advances, lets him known about the answer she gave to Leon and Tomas about wanting to remain alone. DJ is nervous about his audition for the Studio and thinks he will fail, with Camila telling him that Tomas did not make it the first time he auditioned. DJ does not make it into the Studio but is hired by Beto as his assitant, although he later resigns after accepting a job offer as a video designer. Federico, an Italian guy who participated in YouMix, asks Violetta about Tomas and says that he went back to Spain. He is again mentioned by Ludmila who claims that Violetta "took him away" from her and indirectly referenced to by Violetta stating that she doesn't want to fall in love with two boys ever again.

Season 3[]

Tomas is mentioned only once in this season by Leon when he reminds Violetta about what she's gone through with both him and Tomas, when the two of them stay broken up and Leon cites that by being together they are only harming each other. His former job as Beto's assistant is occupied by Gery López, a new girl from the Studio who is in love with Leon and intends by any means to make him her boyfriend and keep both him and Violetta separated, teaming up with Clément Galán, who is also in love with Violetta, although he somewhat shares some of Tomas's traits as both of them were victims of abuse from Gregorio and Milton Vinicius (the new singing teacher replacing Angie), also entering the Studio on scholarships, although for Clement (who was actually wealthy), he pretended to be from a poor background and enrolled through a fake name fearing that his father, who opposed his son's passion, would find out about his deception.

Trivia[]

  • Tomas's tense relationship with Gregorio somewhat mirrors that of Chavo and Don Ramon. Tomas also shares some of Chavo's traits.
    • Tomas and Chavo tend to always get them injured, albeit unintentionally. The same applies to Señor Barriga whenever he arrives at the neighbourhood to collect the rent, although it's mostly Chavo's fault and Barriga himself is not that lucky, as he always showed up at the wrong time.
    • They are punished in different ways. While Don Ramon uses violence as a mean to teach him a lesson, Gregorio and Senor Barriga never does this. Gregorio schemes various ways to expel him from the Studio while Barriga yells at Chavo or sometimes he scares him away.
    • They are humble and honest about themselves.
    • They are very innocent-looking and shy, which attracts the attention of girls they are interested in (Paty for Chavo, Francesca/Violetta for Tomas), which also fuels jealousy on their rivals (Chilindrina/Popis for Chavo, Ludmila for Tomas). The only differences being that Chavo and Chilindrina/Popis are frenemies and their love for Chavo is not reciprocated, while Tomas and Lumdila started off as friends, then as a couple-turned-enemies after realizing Ludmila's true nature.
  • Originally, Tomás was meant to become Violetta's official boyfriend by the end of the first season. However, with Pablo Espinosa departing the show due to other commitments, this never came to be and was changed so that Violetta ended up with neither Tomás nor León. A clear evidence of this is the fact that Pablo Espinosa was billed third in the first season's opening credits after Martina Stoessel, with Jorge Blanco, billed fourth after Pablo, taking over said title after the former was written off the series.
