He was portrayed by William Katt in the 1976 film, Tobias Mehler in the 2002 made-for-TV movie, and Ansel Elgort in the 2013 remake.
History[]
In both the novel and film adaptations, Tommy is a popular athletic student who is the boyfriend of Sue Snell.
One day at the track, Sue approaches Tommy and tells him to take Carrie to the prom to make up for her bullying Carrie that day. Tommy was against the idea, but later relented when he and Sue were studying together that evening. He first asks Carrie to go with him to the prom, but wasn't sure about it. After a pep talk with Miss Collins, she finally goes with Tommy.
Tommy picks her up the next night and they arrive at the prom. Later on, after Miss Collins finished talking to Carrie, Tommy rejoins her and asks if she wanted to dance, but she was shy and Tommy danced with her and guided her. When he and Carrie won the ballots, they went on stage to be elected king and queen and they kiss.
Unfortunately, when Sue arrived there, she saw a rope and a bucket and saw Chris and Billy in the bottom below and tried to stop them, but was pulled away by Miss Collins who thought she was there to ruin the prom and locks her out of the prom, and Chris pulls the bucket, causing the pig blood to drench Carrie and humiliate her in front of everybody. When Tommy notices this, he immediately becomes enraged and suddenly the bucket drops and hits Tommy on the head and cracking his skull, killing him.
