“ | The most important part about giving a good speech is believing in yourself... ...Perhaps one day... I will believe in myself... again. Very well. If learning how to give a great speech is what you seek, then I'd be happy to instruct you. In exchange, I would like for you to continue assisting me. | „ |
~ Toranosuke Yoshida |
Toranosuke Yoshida, also known as No-Good Tora, is a supporting character in the action-adventure 2016 video game Persona 5 and its re-released expansion, Persona 5: Royal.
He is a former Diet member and experienced politician who gives speeches in Shibuya, but his unpopularity among the masses makes it difficult for him to gain traction. He becomes Ren Amamiya's Confidant, with his arcane being of the Sun Arcane.
He is voiced by Keiichi Noda in the Japanese version, in the English version he is voiced by William Salyers.
Appearance[]
Yoshida is a middle-aged man with black, slicked back hair. His usual outfit shows him wearing a suit with a green sash and red kanji on it.
Story[]
Yoshida is introduced as a "washed up politician" who isn't that popular with the people. His confidant story begins when the protagonist meets up with him at a beef bowl shop, which Yoshida visits to experience the working conditions of the youth. He meets up with the protagonist there, notices he's having a hard time, and then invites the protagonist to aid in his speeches.
He was mentored by a councilman named Matsushita who was a former pro wrestler. Like Matsushita, he was a member of the Diet 20 years before the game took place, but became hated by the public due to allegedly embezzling funds, which was proven to be a frame-job by another member of the Diet.
Once the confidant rank with the protagonist increases, his popularity improves as well, eventually making him seen in a positive light by the public again. It is likely (and potentially suggested) that he ran for prime minister, but lost to Masayoshi Shido, as he is one of the few confidants in Persona 5 with a time limit of when you can rank him up, probably due to the elections.
