Heroine Overview

Starlight. You got us this far with just my illusions and Discord's annoying personality. You don't need magic to figure out what to do next. I know you're afraid to be in charge, but you are really good at it! Listen to your best friend.
~ Trixie

Trixie Lulamoon is a major character in My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic and one of the two deuteragonists (alongside Princess Twilight) in My Little Pony Equestria Girls: Forgotten Friendship. She initially served as the main antagonist in the episodes "Boast Busters" and "Magic Duel", before she lost her villainy status and becomes a supporting protagonist for the rest of the series. She has also appeared in several comics and chapter books.

She is voiced by Kathleen Barr, who also voiced Queen Chrysalis. She also voices Kevin on Ed, Edd n Eddy, Misako on Ninjago: Masters of Spinjitzu, Lila Test on Johnny Test, and Edgar on Edgar & Ellen. In the Japanese dub from the series, she is voiced by Ryōka Yuzuki.

Biography[]

Season 1[]

In "Boast Busters" Trixie makes her first full appearance in her cart announcing how great and powerful she is. While Trixie shows boasts hew magical capabilities to the pony audience, the Mane six remark on how Trixie's arrogant attitude is annoying them. Trixie then notices the Mane Six who are complaining about her arrogant attitude, so Trixie retaliates to them by listing the accomplishments she has made in her life. One major accomplishment she has "claims" she has made was the time she defeated an Ursa Major with her magical abilities. When the Ponyville citizens aren't convinced of Trixie's magical talent, Trixie decides to challenge the Ponyville citizens on beater her to a magical talent contest.

The first challenger that steps up is Applejack. Applejack shows off her skills by plucking apples out of a tree and then eating it. Trixie imitates Applejack's trick by using magic on Applejack's rope and then tying Applejack up while she puts an apple on her mouth which humiliates Applejack. This causes the Ponyville citizens to applaud to Trixie and Trixie takes in their glory to feed her arrogant behavior. Trixie's next challenger Rainbow Dash shows off her flying skills to try and shatter Trixie's boastful behavior for humiliating Applejack.

In retaliation Trixie decides to use her magic to spin Rainbow Dash's body by using an imaginary rainbow. To take things a step further, Trixie shocks Rainbow Dash with a bolt of lightning and laughs alongside with her audience. After defeating Rainbow Dash and Applejack, Trixie decides to goad Rarity in accepting her challenge by insulting Rarity's beauty. In return Rarity accepts Trixie's challenge as payback for insulting her mane. Rarity demonstrates how a style of a unicorn can make you more fabulous than having lots of power, so in return Trixie ruins Rarity's hair by turning it green.

This causes Rarity to run away from Trixie's show. With Twilight Sparkle's lack of self-confidence, Spike attempts to raise Twilight's self-confidence by saying she has more magical talent than Trixie. This cause Trixie to notice Twilight and demands to see just what Twilight can do with her magic. Twilight attempts to be humble by saying she doesn't have any magical talent compared to Trixie, so Twilight creates an excuse for the Ponyville Citizens and runs away from Trixie's magical show. By having Twilight run away from Trixie's show, Trixie then gloats to herself as to how powerful she has become by defeating all that have challenged her.

In the next scene Trixie is seen brushing her mane and Trixie is interrupted by Snips and Snails wanting her to tell them a story about the Ursa Major Trixie was talking about in her show. Trixie instead tells them to leave her alone as she feels far too exhausted to tell them a story about the Ursa major and that they should visit her in the morning. In the middle of the night Trixie is woken up in the night by Snips and Snails which irritates her. Trixie asks Snips and Snails why they have woken her up and the two ponies replied that the brought an "Ursa Major" to Ponyville. Once Trixie notices the "Ursa Major" rampaging through Ponyville, Trixie freaks out and runs away from her cart before it gets smashed up by the "Ursa Major."

With Trixie cornered by the "Ursa Major" alongside Snips and Snails, they both beg Trixie to banish the "Ursa Major" with her magic. Trixie eventually realizes that Snips and Snails had brought the "Ursa Major" into Ponyville which makes her freak out and call out Snips and Snails for their foolishness in bringing an "Ursa Major into Ponyville. Snips and Snails attempt to justify themselves by saying that they brought the "Ursa Major" so that Trixie can show her magical talents to them, so Trixie decides to fight the "Ursa Major" by using the magic she used in her show. It proves to be ineffective towards the "Ursa Major," so Trixie alongside Snips and Snails run away from the "Ursa Major." Once Twilight arrives at the scene, Snips and Snails tell her that they brought an "Ursa Major" so that Trixie could defeat it.

A few seconds later Trixie admits that she never defeated an "Ursa Major" and that she claims to have defeated one to boast of her magical talents which surprises both Snips and Snails. With the "Ursa Major" put to sleep, Twilight states to everypony in Ponyville that it was not an "Ursa Major" but an Ursa Minor which shocks everypony including Trixie. Even after the Ursa Minor was defeated, Trixie still believes herself to be better than Twilight even though Twilight has taken down an Ursa Minor which is something Trixie was never able to accomplish. In her last scene in "Boast Busters" Trixie is shown galloping away from Ponyville and its citizens. Rainbow Dash attempts to catch Trixie but Twilight tells Rainbow Dash that it is unnecessary to stop her as Trixie could potentially learn her lesson later in her life.

Season 3[]

In "Magic Duel" it starts off with Trixie hiding herself in a hood galloping towards a shop to get something. Trixie opens the door of the shop and rummages through the items to find something useful. The shop owner eventually spots Trixie, so Trixie points to the object she desires, which is the Alicorn Amulet. The shop owner tells Trixie of the Magic the Alicorn Amulet contains, but when Trixie attempts to take it, the shop owner immediately becomes hesitant in giving the Alicorn Amulet to Trixie. Trixie gives the shop owner a bag of money and he immediately gives into his greed and lets Trixie have the Alicorn Amulet.

In the Town Hall of Ponyville Trixie is using her Alicorn Amulet combined with her magic to give Rarity awful looking clothes. This causes Rarity to faint and both Pinkie Pie and Applejack have to drag Rarity away from Trixie. Once Twilight arrives that the commotion, Trixie introduces herself to Twilight again, but this time her eyes start to glow red from the Alicorn Amulet. Due to Trixie's rude behavior, Twilight and Rainbow Dash call Trixie out for making Rarity faint from her ugly clothes, but Trixie instead uses her magic on Rainbow Dash's wing to make it grow, thereby preventing Rainbow Dash from flying properly. Snips and Snails attempt to compliment Trixie for enlarging Rainbow Dash's wings, but Trixie instead uses her magic on Snips and Snails by attaching their horns.

Twilight tries to get Trixie to not abuse her magic, so instead Trixie decides to challenge Twilight with a magical duel. Trixie demands that if Twilight loses to her then Twilight would be banished from Ponyville forever. Twilight Tries to deny Trixie's challenge, but Trixie forces her to accept the challenge by attacking her friends and attempting to smash up Twilight's own house. Twilight questions why Trixie is doing this, so Trixie reveals what happened to her after she witnessed Twilight put the Ursa Minor back to sleep. In Trixie's backstory, Trixie reveals that after what happened to Ponyville, she had to endure multiple amounts of humiliations from other ponies for being exposed as a liar in her debut episode.

Trixie even admits she even had to work at a rock farm which she finds disgusting. By insulting the rock farm where Pinkie Pie lives, Pinkie Pie calls out Trixie for insulting her home, so Trixie removes Pinkie Pie's mouth with her empowered magic and then throwing the mouth into a magical trash can. twilight eventually accepts Trixie's challenge and the two duel in magic. Trixie starts first by throwing a wagon to a pony, but Twilight i able to fortunately stop it with her magic. The next attack Trixie uses against Twilight is by flinging a bunch of huge pies at Twilight and Twilight retaliates by using a parasprite to eat the pies.

In her Third attack, Trixie summons a huge fluff of snow to Twilight, and Twilight has to heat herself up from the cold. After heating herself up, Twilight attacks Trixie with her magic by giving Trixie a mustache. Trixie cuts the mustache with her scissors and calls Snips and Snails to come forward. Trixie uses Snips and Snails as her subjects by making both of them young and old with an age spell. Trixie goads Twilight to copy her to show just how much magical talent Twilight has.

Unfortunately, Twilight fails the challenge and Trixie forces twilight to leave Ponyville forever. Trixie uses her magic to toss Twilight out of Ponyville, while at the same time Trixie creates a giant glass bowl to trap every pony in Ponyville inside it and preventing Twilight from getting back home. With Twilight gone, Trixie takes the time to control all of Ponyville with her magical powers. In the next scene Trixie is in her wagon and is forcing both Snips and Snails to move her. Snips and Snails suggest to Trixie that it would be easier to have wheels.

Despite their suggestions Trixie believes that wheels are unnecessary for her wagon. Trixie eventually notices a bunch of beavers wanting to leave Ponyville, so Trixie grants them the permission to leave by lifting up the giant bowl. Twilight eventually returns to Ponyville and Trixie mocks Twilight for losing her challenge, but Twilight demands a rematch, as Twilight has given herself an Artifact which is believed to be stronger than the Alicorn Amulet. This intrigues Trixie, so she accepts Twilight's rematch and duels twilight again. They both start their rematch duel at the Town Hall of Ponyville.

Trixie starts off with an age spell and wants to see just how much Twilight has improved with her new amulet. Twilight succeeds in doing an age spell which slightly shocks Trixie. Trixie becomes even more shocked when Twilight is able to use the age spell multiple times. Seeing just how powerful Twilight has become with her new mysterious amulet, Trixie steals Twilight's amulet and replaces her Alicorn Amulet with its supposedly great power. With the new amulet, Rainbow Dash takes the chance to steal the Alicorn Amulet from Trixie, because to Trixie, the Alicorn Amulet is useless to her.

Trixie attempts to hurt Rainbow Dash with her magic, but instead tickles Rainbow Dash. Twilight reveals to Trixie that the amulet she is using is fake. Later in the episode Trixie lights up some fireworks in Twilight's show as a way to show her remorse and gratitude to Twilight Sparkle when she was out of control when wearing the Alicorn Amulet. Trixie begs Twilight to forgive her for her actions she has done under the Alicorn Amulet and Twilight reluctantly grants her forgiveness. Trixie immediately goes back to her arrogant boastful attitude after she has been forgiven by Twilight before she runs off into the moon.

Season 6[]

Trixie appears again in "No Second Prances" as Starlight Glimmer's friend. In a spa, while Starlight Glimmer is struggling to make friends, Starlight talks to Trixie about how her problems of being a former villain make it hard for her to make friends. Trixie agrees with Starlight and says that used to be a villain just like Starlight. Once Starlight learns of Trixie's past, Starlight brings Trixie to Twilight's castle to introduce her new friend to Twilight herself. Twilight becomes suspiciously cautious and annoyed at Trixie, but Trixie smugly points out to Twilight Sparkle that she has already been forgiven for her misdeeds in "Magic Duel."

Twilight questions why Trixie has come to Ponyville and Trixie reveals that she has come to perform a magic show for the ponies in Ponyville, so Trixie can be forgiven for her past misdeeds. Starlight questions Trixie for the long title and Trixie replies that it is still a working title. Trixie plays with the table equipment while waiting for Twilight and Starlight to finish their conversation. Once Trixie and Starlight leave the castle, Twilight notices a mini statue Trixie created for herself from the table equipment. Trixie is building her stage for her magic show alongside with Starlight, but they are distracted by the ponies who are gossiping about Trixie's past actions.

Trixie and Starlight talk about each other's experiences about how ponies never truly forgive you for your past actions. Trixie tells Starlight that she heard what Twilight was saying about her and understands if Starlight is not interested in becoming friends with her. Starlight admits that she enjoys being around Trixie, so Trixie tells Starlight a secret about the reason she was evil. Trixie tells Starlight that, she committed her crimes because she was jealous of Twilight and wants to beat Twilight at something. Trixie talks to Starlight about her messy cart, and Starlight believes she can fix Trixie's cart as Starlight was good at organizing and controlling ponies in the past.

As Trixie and Starlight unload the cart, Starlight admits that Trixie is good at magic, but Trixie says that she is only good at magic due to wearing the Alicorn Amulet. However, Starlight was talking about stage magic which Trixie agrees on. Despite her powers, Trixie admits that the one trick she has never performed is the "Moonshot Manticore Mouth Dive." Trixie tells Starlight a story about a magician named Hoofdini who managed to do the "Moonshot Manticore Mouth Dive." Starlight thinks that the story is cool, so she and Trixie work together to perform the "Moonshot Manticore Mouth Dive."

Starlight Tells her plan to Trixie about how it will go. First Trixie will shoot herself in the mouth of the Manticore and Starlight will teleport Trixie in a bow when the trick is over. Trixie promotes Starlight as her magical assistant for the plan Starlight made. Trixie believes that the trick can make their show great and powerful for the audience. Unfortunately, Starlight has to leave Trixie tonight as she has to go back to the castle to have a dinner with Twilight, but Trixie convinces Starlight to stay with her for the magic show by being upset towards Twilight ruining the night.

As the magic show begins, Trixie and Starlight believe it to be the best day of their lives only to get interrupted by an angry Twilight who wants Starlight Glimmer to return to the castle. Trixie realizes that Twilight has never really trusted her and boast to Twilight on the fact Starlight cares for Trixie more. Trixie proclaims that she has beaten Twilight Sparkle and Starlight questions Trixie if their friendship was real. Trixie accidentally confirms she only befriended Starlight for the sake of beating Twilight, and this causes Starlight Glimmer to run away from Trixie while crying. Trixie attempts to apologize to Starlight, but Twilight asks Trixie if beating her was worth it as Trixie has lost a friend.

Trixie blatantly lies to Twilight by saying she is not sad at all and proceeds to start the magical show without Starlight Glimmer. Trixie starts her magical show by announcing the title and gets angry at the audience by questioning the title she has made. Trixie brings in the Manticore and announces to the pony audience that she is going to do the "Moonshot Manticore Mouth Dive." Trixie puts herself in a cannon and begs Starlight Glimmer to come back and be her friend again as she is preparing to launch herself into the Manticore. As Trixie screams in terror as she approaches the Manticore, Starlight Glimmer teleports Trixie in the box and the audience cheers for Trixie.

Trixie thanks Starlight in front of the audience and Twilight apologizes to Trixie for being rude to her. Trixie thanks Twilight Sparkle for the apology. Trixie and Starlight light up the fireworks and become friends again.

In "To Where and Back again Part 1" Starlight Glimmer asks Trixie to come alongside her to visit her old town where she used to enslave her villagers. Trixie agrees to come along with Starlight and they both go to Starlight's town. As Starlight and Trixie arrive in the town, Trixie tells Starlight that she will always support her in the town. In the town Trixie initially believed the town to be a scary place as Starlight described, but it turns out that the town is a nice, happy place with ponies who want to celebrate with Starlight Glimmer. This causes Trixie to tell Starlight that her anxieties are getting the better of her. Once Starlight starts to feel anxious over her villagers, Trixie uses her smoke bombs to help Starlight escape the town. After escaping the town Trixie tells Starlight a secret about how she sometimes makes mistakes. Trixie gives Starlight advice about moving on and forgetting what happened as a way for Starlight to cope with her problems. When "Rarity" and "Applejack" laugh at Starlight for fleeing her village, Trixie notes that Starlight's friends are acting unusually rude towards them. At night Starlight bangs Trixie's cart until fireworks are lit up. Trixie asks Starlight what is going on, but Starlight forces Trixie to tell her about the secret Trixie said a while back when they were both leaving the town. Trixie grumpily tells Starlight she sometimes makes mistakes and Starlight tells Trixie that the changelings have kidnapped their friends. Trixie and Starlight go into the castle to see what the changelings are doing. In the castle table they witness the plan of the changelings and how Queen Chrysalis wants to take over Equestria.

Powers and Abilities[]

Befitting her profession as an illusionist, Trixie demonstrates a special talent for stage magic throughout most of her appearances, able to create fireworks and illusions and having numerous magician's tools of the trade at her disposal, including magic wands, playing cards, never-ending handkerchiefs, and smoke bombs. She is also capable of standard telekinesis, but her affinity for real unicorn magic is initially limited.

While under the influence of the Alicorn Amulet, Trixie's magic is augmented to the point at which she can cast spells beyond even Twilight's ability, such as age spells. In "No Second Prances", Trixie admits to Starlight Glimmer that, as good as she is at stage magic, she's not as good a spell-caster as Twilight or as good a stage magician as her hero, Hoofdini. As of All Bottled Up, Trixie has begun learning real magic spells like transfiguration and teleportation under Starlight's tutelage. But, as seen in To Change a Changeling, she still has some difficulty in casting teleportation spells. In Road to Friendship, Trixie levitates her own body and shields Starlight from flame geysers. In "A Horse Shoe-In", Trixie teleports a small section of Froggy Bottom Bogg into one of the School of Friendship's classrooms.

Personality[]

In "Boast Busters", Trixie assumes a very theatrical personality and speaks dramatically in the third person, posing and setting off fireworks to complete the full effect. Twilight Sparkle's positive, helpful, and humble attitude is contrasted by Trixie's over-the-top boasting and arrogant nature. Trixie claims to have saved Hoofington from an attack by an ursa major. However, when confronted by an ursa minor, she admits that her tale was fabricated and that even the ursa minor was an opponent far too powerful for her to contain. It's at this point where Trixie drops her "Great and Powerful" persona. Despite this brief display of honesty and fear, her frequent showboating alienates the other ponies.

Trixie demonstrates arrogance and a penchant for mischief in Twilight Sparkle and the Crystal Heart Spell and Trixie Trucjes as well. She partners with Gilda to prank ponies in the former and uses her magic on Spike and Rainbow Dash in the latter.

In "Magic Duel", Trixie returns with her magic augmented by the Alicorn Amulet, and she uses this power to take revenge on Twilight in a magic duel, banishing her from Ponyville and subsequently setting herself up as the leader of the town. She shows no qualms about using innocent ponies such as Snips and Snails to prove her power. During the episode, Trixie keeps Mayor Mare in a cage and forces other ponies to do manual labor for her. However, upon the Amulet's removal and the loss of her power, she accepts her defeat against Twilight and meekly seeks forgiveness for how she treated her and her friends. At the end of the episode, Trixie once again drops her persona and speaks in the first person before referring to herself as the "Great and Apologetic Trixie".

In later appearances, Trixie shows a genuine effort to change from her previous ways, but she is still very theatrical in her behavior. In part 4 of the Nightmare Rarity story arc, she helps defend Ponyville from the Nightmare Forces and gives emotional support to Princess Luna. In My Little Pony: Friends Forever Issue #6, she reaches out to Rainbow Dash for help when Diamond Dogs crown her as their permanent queen. In Manehattan Mysteries, she expresses guilt for her past actions and forms a bond with Babs Seed. In Trixie never gives up!, she helps the Cutie Mark Crusaders with their cutie mark-related troubles.

In No Second Prances, Trixie gives magic shows across Equestria as part of her "apology tour", bonds with Starlight Glimmer over their similarly troubled pasts, and shares with her new friend deep secrets about herself. In To Where and Back Again - Part 2, Trixie shows a tendency for sarcasm, especially when it comes to interacting with Discord.

Trixie reacts poorly to dangerous situations, quickly succumbing to panic and terror. But she is capable of genuine acts of courage despite this, such as when she attempts to stop the ursa minor after her fans encourage her and when she sacrifices herself to a horde of changelings in order to buy Starlight and Thorax time to get away.

Trixie also has a habit of not recognizing how her actions affect others. In "All Bottled Up", she was completely oblivious to how her nonchalant attitude regarding the lost map was enraging Starlight. But once Starlight made her feelings clear, Trixie was genuinely regretful over it.

As shown in "Road to Friendship", Trixie's constant time on the road has made her highly skilled and experienced in how to operate on her travels, such as how to ration money for the trip and the best places to resupply.

In "Student Counsel", she expresses a need to keep her promises, intent on carrying out every favor Maud and Mudbriar requested of her and Starlight for their party, and getting angry when Starlight's dedication to her work prevents them from doing so.

In "A Horse Shoe-In", Trixie, despite not taking teaching seriously, acknowledges Starlight's desire for help in her new position as headmare and sticks up for Gallus when Grampa Gruff shows little interest in his education, which leads Starlight to recommend her for the position of guidance counselor.

Trivia[]

  • To Change a Changeling and Student Council are the only episodes in which Trixie appears without any of the Mane Six.
