Tsu'tey is a major character in the 2009 film Avatar. He was the Omatikaya clan's finest warrior formerly promised to Sylwanin and Neytiri. Tsu'tey was also a rival towards Jake Sully before they eventually chose to lead the Na'vi together against the RDA forces.

He was portrayed by Laz Alonso.

History

Background

Tsu'tey was born in the Omatikaya clan, as the first son of Ateyo and Artsut, along with his younger brother Arvok. Because of his skills, Tsu'tey was chosen by Eytukan and Mo'at to become the next Olo'eyktan and the future mate of their eldest daughter, Sylwanin . Despite an arranged marriage, both Tsu'tey and Sylwanin.

Tsu'tey was also one of the students in Grace Augustine's school which is where he learned English.

Ten years after the school opened, the RDA forces fired upon the Na'vi and Sylwanin was killed during the assault. Tsu'tey was then promised to Neytiri, who he did not love. He grew hatred towards the sky people, including Grace, his former mentor.

Legacy

After his death, Tsu'tey's spirit was reunited with Sylwanin, the woman he truly loved. He came into contact with Jake, who was suffering from his own near-death experience. Tsu'tey was confident that his parents were behind the plot and assured Jake he was living up to the legacy.

Tsu'tey was a legend respected by the Na'vi, including Jake's son Neteyam, who wore a woven choker similar to Tsu'tey. Jake honored his fallen friend's request to lead the Na'vi until he was forced to step down as the clan leader and gave the role to Tarsem.

Powers and abilities

Tsu'tey was one of the best warriors in the Omatikaya clan and a skilled leader and tactician. He was a master of the bow, hand to hand combat and a precise hunter.

Trivia

• Tsu'tey is very similar to Aonung. They both do not get along with Jake and Lo'ak at first.
• Even though he was meant to be paired with Neytiri, Tsu'tey always felt more romantically connected with Sylwanin, Neytiri's sister. Her death was the main reason why he felt such hatred towards humans. Tsu'tey would often go to the Tree of Souls to connect with Sylwanin's spirit, which was why he was so devastated when the humans destroyed it.
• According to the official Avatar movie script, Tsu-tey's banshee was killed offscreen, shot by humans.
