Tuesday (formerly known as Mac) is the deuteragonist of the 2016 3D animated Belgian adventure comedy movie, Robinson Crusoe (known in the United States as The Wild Life). He is a scarlet macaw parrot with a passion for human stuff and a dream to get off his island home and see the world.
He was voiced by David Howard in the English-dubbed version.
Personality[]
Tuesday is a kind, caring, gentle, selfless, somewhat selfish, and generous parrot with a passion for human stuff and a dream to get off his island home and see the world.
Biography[]
One night, on their island, Tuesday and his friends: Kiki the kingfisher, Pango the pangolin, Epi the echidna, Carmello the chameleon, Scrubby the old myopic goat, and Rosie the Malayan tapir try pulling their unconscious human friend, Robinson Crusoe out to safety from a fire in their treehouse until they are suddenly driven off by cannons shot from a pirate ship passing by and commandeered by Long John Silver and his band of cutthroat pirates, having mistaken them for "wild beasts" trying to "devour" the latter.
The next morning, after Crusoe has been "rescued" by pirates and taken to their captain aboard ship, Tuesday enters the Captain's cabin and joins up with Crusoe, Silver, and bosun, but the pirates try to do away with the former until Crusoe reassures them that he's with him. Amused yet impressed by Tuesday's ability to speak and imitate people, Silver spares him then asks Crusoe to tell him if there is anything of great value found on the island, but to no avail. Then, Crusoe treats Silver and his men to a fictitious version of his story of how he ended up and survived during the past few months on the island including his last battle with a couple of ratters led by Mal and May while Tuesday recounts what really happened to a pair of mice, Rufus and Cecil after Crusoe puts him outside for privacy.
A few months ago, before Crusoe came to live on the island, Tuesday was known by his animal friends as Mac back then. One day, like every other day, desperate to leave the island and see the world, Mac tries looking for any stuff on the beach that might prove that there's another world out there besides their island until finally, he finds a ring and takes it back to add it to his collection of other unusual things in his tree while his friends are out preparing for their usual daily luau. When asked by Kiki what food he brought for the luau, Mac simply shows everyone the ring he found earlier; much to their chagrin since they had expected food instead even when Scrubby, for one, tries to eat it like he does with almost everything else. Despite his friends' ignorance and stubbornness, Mac relentlessly tries in vain to convince everyone that there's another world out there besides their island, which he is determined to find by any means necessary no matter what anyone thinks or says despite having almost died of exhaustion the last time he tried flying across the ocean while looking for the other world.
Later in the day, Mac and his friends are left to deal with a violent storm, thus, forced to take refuge in a cave. On the way, Mac begrudgingly brings a pineapple along for provision as instructed by Kiki, but then, when Mac accidentally drops it due to getting hit by a stick, Scrubby eventually ends up slipping, falling off a cliff, and dangling with Carmello for life on a branch despite everyone's best efforts to save him. After Pango fails to save his friends, Mac tries to help out, only to get accidentally knocked out with a falling stone by Rosie and left dangling for his life as well while Kiki, Rosie, and Epi helplessly watch from above. However, when the branch finally breaks due to everyone's weight, Mac and his friends fall down, but land safely unharmed after swinging and sliding down through a hole in the cliff unlike the pineapple, which ends up crushed by a falling boulder. Later, at night, when Mac and his friends are sleeping in the cave, they are suddenly awakened by an unusual sound, assuming it's something dying somewhere when they can't seem to see anything in the rain and fog out there.
The next morning, Mac and his friends begin searching around the beach for whatever must've made the unusual noise they heard last night as the former becomes more and more excited about the excessive number of unusual things washed up and found on the beach from the storm until finally, they spot a ship broken in half; much to Mac's continuous astonishment, but his friends' horror. Overjoyed and excited, Mac begins flying and exploring around the ship before coming across a human (Robinson Crusoe) and his pet dog, Aynsley coming out of the hold from one half of the shipwreck, which sends Mac and his friends in a state of fright due to mistaking the latter two for "sea monsters" at first. While Mac continues spying on Crusoe and Aynsley having made it to shore on a barrel, his friends try scaring them off by making a lot of loud noises when they believe that Aynsley is trying to "eat" Carmello in the confusion despite merely barking at him, thus, allowing the latter two to believe that there are cannibals trying to attack them. Angered and annoyed by his friends' efforts to scare Crusoe and Aynsley off, Mac reprimands and expresses great disappointment in them after witnessing the latter two leave, but quickly regains joy and happiness when informed by Rosie that they're back due to the strong current as they take refuge inside the other half of the ship. So, Mac decides it's best they keep an eye on Crusoe and Aynsley and see what they're up to instead as long as no one goes on the beach and is seen either.
At night, everyone is awakened when they hear Scrubby approaching the ship in order to get a bite out of the food he smells out there whereas Mac has already preceded him as he perches onto a mast to get a closer look at Crusoe and Aynsley. Mac is eventually discovered when he accidentally exposes himself to Crusoe and flies away back to his friends even though the latter has proven himself to be less dangerous than they thought at first despite his earlier threat to use either his dog or oar as a musket on whoever was making some noise before realizing it was only Scrubby trying to get some food to eat on the ground. As soon as he rejoins his friends, Mac is told by everyone to return the ring to Crusoe, thinking that this will get the "sea monsters" to leave them alone, but Mac selfishly refuses before finally accepting on condition that all of his friends come with him the next day; much to their reluctance.
The next day, Mac and his friends observe Crusoe as he begins salvaging and gathering things up on the beach before it is all lost to the sea forever while Aynsley sleeps all day, unaware that they are being watched by the ship's vicious ratters: Mal and May having survived the storm as well, now plotting to do away with both Crusoe and everyone else as part of their revenge for Crusoe's mistreatment towards them and means to survive at the same time. Later, Mac and his friends are scared off by the sound of a gunshot from one of Crusoe's muskets he brought out from the ship's cabin when practicing a bit first before venturing out into the open in order to hunt for some food. So, in order to appease his panicky friends, Mac reminds them to stay out of sight while he goes out to fetch the ring and give it back to Crusoe and Aynsley so as to also find out whether they're friend or foe once and for all.
Back on the beach, as Mac approaches Crusoe and Aynsley inconspicuously with the ring in his beak, he barely avoids getting accidentally shot by Crusoe still practicing until the latter finally succeeds in hitting the mark after countless trials before he and Aynsley begin hunting in the forest. Later on, when another gunshot is heard, Mac flies back to the source where he determines that Rosie was here, but finds the remaining amount of untouched food left behind on the ground rather strange since the latter hardly ever leaves anything behind until he suddenly but unexpectedly finds himself attacked then pinned to the ground by Mal and May. Luckily, Mac is rescued just in time by both Aynsley and Crusoe using his musket against the evil cats to drive them off. Though alive, Mac is injured with a dislocated right wing from the attack and rendered unconscious. So, Mac is taken back to the ship by Crusoe to have his wing fixed as Crusoe claims the ring for himself.
Back on the ship, Mac begins to panic even after Crusoe fixes his wing and hides in plain sight under a couch. Then, Mac is renamed "Tuesday" (after the day Crusoe and Aynsley have been marooned on the island) before being left in Aynsley's care by Crusoe since the former won't be able to fly right away in a day or two while the latter leaves to resume unloading a few more things from the still intact ship. Once alone with Aynsley, Tuesday panics again and tries to leave the ship until Aynsley kindly reassures him that neither he nor his master will try to make a meal out of him; especially, after how they saved his life earlier and how much Crusoe likes him, other than the fact that he won't "make much of a meal" either way unlike the turkeys back in England. Fascinated and intrigued by the mere mention of England, Tuesday asks Aynsley to tell him more. When Aynsley reveals that Crusoe wants to explore the world just as much as Tuesday does if they ever get off the island, Tuesday reveals that both Aynsley and his master are actually the first to come from the outside world; much to the latter's sarcastic worry.
Later, Tuesday wants to go out and assure his friends that he's alright, but Aynsley suggests that he stays inside since he is apparently in no condition to fly for the next day or two. However, when Tuesday notices his friends attacking Crusoe outside, he tries to go outside so as to stop, but then, he finds himself once again attacked by the cats having deliberately misguided and led his friends into believing that Crusoe had killed and eaten him earlier, thus, giving the ratters an opportunity to sneak onboard the ship and deal with both Tuesday and Aynsley personally. Luckily, Aynsley comes to Tuesday's rescue and fights off Mal while Tuesday avoids and somewhat fights May at the same time. During the battle, however, Tuesday begins squawking whereas Aynsley howls for help when the cats deliberately set the ship on fire using candles from the chandelier in order to finish them off. Despite failed rescue attempts from both parties, Tuesday manages to escape, but Aynsley is killed when the fire reaches the gunpowder and causes the ship to explode whereas Mal and May are left stranded on Curse Island, a small rock located a bit far from the island inhabited by bugs only. Nevertheless, Tuesday is temporarily feared dead for good this time by his friends after realizing the evil cats' manipulation and deception whereas a distraught Crusoe is left to mourn for his dog's death.
The next morning, after Crusoe buries Aynsley, Tuesday comes over to comfort Crusoe then accompanies him on his way back to work. As Crusoe continues working, Tuesday receives a visit from Kiki whom he informs about last night's situation, who in turn, informs the others as well. Owing both Crusoe and the late Aynsley, Tuesday stays behind to help his new friend out by any means necessary. Later on, Tuesday is given a biscuit to eat with Crusoe until the latter notices his friends approaching them. Then, Tuesday stops Crusoe just in time from firing at them with his musket when he thinks that they're going to attack again before realizing that they have actually come to make amends for their mistakes yesterday by bringing anything that might prove useful to him and offering him some fruits at the same time. After eating a berry, Crusoe accepts his newfound friends' apologies and decides to return the favor by offering them biscuits, but then, they run away at the mere sight of his musket left on the ground just before he can even show them what he has brought for them whereas Kiki simply but kindly refuses his gesture before flying away due to still not trusting him completely.
The next day, Tuesday leads Crusoe to a freshwater reserve on top of the island when the former notices he has run completely out of water from his gourd. Then, Tuesday leads Crusoe to where he and his friends usually spend most of their time during the day. Still wanting to return the favor, Crusoe runs straight back to the ship and returns with biscuits he offers to each of his new friends, which they unsurprisingly seem to enjoy. Crusoe's gesture, however, is still denied by a skeptical Kiki when she deliberately pokes his fingers with her beak while flying away from him despite Tuesday's encouragement, but the former takes no offense to this since he believes that "friendships aren't made in a day" as long he takes it one step at a time.
As days go by, back on the beach, as Crusoe tries building a shelter for survival and after giving Scrubby a pair of glasses to improve his vision, Tuesday tries in vain to help Crusoe keep the shelter from falling while the others do nothing but to feast on the latter's remaining biscuits accidentally dropped on the ground in the struggle. Although giving up on building a shelter on the beach, Crusoe finally concludes that he has to build a treehouse instead when he catches sight of a large tree somewhere on top of the island; much to the animals' confusion when he begins "destroying" the tree later on.
Months pass by as Crusoe continues working on his new home in the tree while growing a moustache and beard in the process, but to no avail due to his friends' constant but unintentional screw-ups and interference. Luckily, Tuesday finally understands what Crusoe is up to and informs his friends on the current situation. So, Tuesday and the others minus Kiki decide to help Crusoe out just as he was on the verge of giving up at first and construction on the tree moves faster than possible despite a few ups-and-downs along the way. During that time, Crusoe builds a small door for Epi and Pango to get into even after a few modifications; thanks to Rosie, plants a few seeds using the ship's helm for making holes and bagpipes to water the planted seeds with Tuesday, Epi, Pango, and Rosie helping out as well, and enjoying a few meals with his friends despite their sloppiness until finally, after so many months of work despite his awkwardness and flaws, Crusoe puts the finishing touches on their new home and invites his friends at night to christen the place for good luck using a jug filled with fireflies even though it doesn't happen as planned, surprising even a still-skeptical Kiki. Then, in celebration of their new home, Crusoe takes out his bagpipes and begins playing a tune which only Scrubby seems to enjoy unlike the others as the former walks down the way.
With the house completed, Crusoe moves on to a new project and builds a waterway for the freshwater to pass through leading to indoor plumbing and the animals no longer having to forage for food; much to Kiki's chagrin.
However, as time passes and even though life becomes more and more comfortable for everyone, Tuesday notices Crusoe appearing very sad at times since the latter still misses his old world including seeing the sun set over the Thames, having also built a tall tower on the highest point of the island with candles burning every night in the hope that some other humans might pass by and rescue him once they have seen the signal even though such chances are becoming much slimmer as time goes by despite Kiki blowing off the candles due to her fear of more humans coming on their island and never-ending skepticism.
A few days later, during a storm, Crusoe and his friends minus Kiki enjoy a good meal after the former says grace in silence. During the grace, however, Tuesday and the others are reprimanded by a now more-stubborn-than-ever Kiki when she begins to believe that they have gone soft before angrily flying off into the storm despite Tuesday trying in vain to calm her down and assure her otherwise. After the storm, while Epi and Pango go out to have some fun on the water slide, Tuesday goes out to find Kiki and make sure she's all right, unaware that she was hiding right under his feet the whole time.
Later, having found Kiki but realizing she's in trouble with some predators; especially, Mal and May and their countless number of now-grown children they had given birth to during their time on Curse Island, having made it back to the island using wooden debris from the ship, Tuesday begins mimicking Crusoe and throwing various objects at the cats to scare them off including Mal, thus, saving Kiki even after scratching May's head in defense. Then, Tuesday and Kiki fly back to warn and alert Crusoe and the others about the cats on the island. During the battle, Tuesday closes all possible entries while Crusoe loads his musket until they find themselves fighting against a few ratters having made it inside the house despite the latter's awkwardness leading to him hanging for dear life on one of the windows' shutters. Although Crusoe makes it back inside, Tuesday scolds at Rosie when she accidentally pushes him out again due to her, Scrubby, and Kiki rushing back in for safety. With Crusoe now forced to hang on to a branch and facing off against a few more cats again, Tuesday helps out using wooden boards tied to a rope. Then, Crusoe uses the rope to climb back up even though the pulley forced him to go down further earlier. Hearing Epi's desperate cries for help, Tuesday flies to her rescue and charges headfirst at the current ratter. Then, Tuesday carries and flies Epi back to the treehouse after finally dealing with their aggressor through a long slide in a hole.
Back at the treehouse, Tuesday once again reprimands Rosie when she forcefully closes the hatch on Crusoe trying to get back inside, having mistook him for the cats trying to get in through there. As the cats try breaking through the door, Tuesday comes up with an idea using Crusoe's musket against them. After much difficulty, Tuesday and his friends manage to shoot, which results in an explosion after the burning bullet comes into direct contact with the amount of gunpowder on the floor. Knowing that the cats will return, but can't leave Crusoe behind either, Tuesday comes up with another plan on how to deal with the remaining cats once and for all.
At night, Tuesday fakes a wing injury and manages to evade his attackers when scaring them off with the musket earlier fails. Then, Tuesday deliberately lures the cats into the tower where they get trapped by the former's friends. However, when his friends begin moving the tower to make it fall, Tuesday gets trapped as well when caught by the tail by both the hatch and one of the ratters and is nearly killed by May until Kiki comes to his rescue at the last minute. Although the cats have been finally defeated, Tuesday and his friends' moment of triumph is interrupted when Tuesday notices the treehouse on fire due to May having set it on fire in order to finish off Crusoe earlier, thus, rushes to Crusoe's aid. Luckily, Tuesday arrives just in time to save a now-conscious Crusoe using a hook, which forces him to go down with its pulley once again before he gets knocked out by a falling wooden board. A situation which leads to where the events with the pirates began at the start of the plot.
In the present day, as Tuesday finishes his story, he is briefed on the true nature of the pirates who "rescued" Crusoe in the first place by Rufus and Cecil. Later on, realizing that Crusoe is in trouble with the pirates now due to trying to jump ship after being forced into piracy against his will by their captain when he hears the latter calling him for help, Tuesday eventually begins to mimic the Captain in order to trick the pirates into ceasing fire on Crusoe paddling away on a makeshift raft (formerly the tower's highest point later used as a raft by the last few remaining ratters including Mal and May after last night's battle before making it onboard the ship) just as they are about to deliver the final shot even after being reprimanded by Bosun for their incompetence to shoot straight by ordering Bosun to enter the Captain's cabin immediately, which he does without hesitation and threatening the others with 10 lashes from the Captain's whip unless they get back to work (the same way he tricked the ratters the other day when trying to save Kiki from them) before the former also barely escapes the real Captain's wrath when the deception is discovered after the real Captain comes out on deck, leaving the latter in frustration with a single tail feather instead.
Fortunately, while Crusoe is allowed to leave alive and in one piece by the Captain despite one of his men wanting to blow the former to smithereens with a cannon shot since the latter thinks that Crusoe probably hasn't got a chance of surviving the remainder of his life on that long, forgotten island, whether the "wild beasts" devour him first or not, Tuesday returns to save Rufus and Cecil from the ratters and takes them back to the island where they are happily reunited with the former's friends and before they (including a now-optimistic Kiki) greet Crusoe as they spend the rest of their days living and prospering in peace while rebuilding their treehouse and celebrating afterwards.
