Tyrande Whisperwind is the High Priestess of the Elune and the Queen of the Night Elves in the Warcraft universe.
Story[]
Before the War of the Ancients, Tyrande was living an idyllic life in the city of Suramar, accompanied by the twin brothers Malfurion and Illidan Stormrage. The three had grown up together, and as they grew older, each chose their own path. Tyrande was smart, a capable huntress who often bested Malfurion and Illidan—and when it came time to choose, she chose the path of the priestess in the order of the Sisters of Elune.. Although only a novice priestess when the War of the Ancients began, Tyrande shared a strong connection with Elune none had ever seen. During the latter half of the war, the current High Priestess Dejahna was mortally wounded at the hands of the Burning Legion. On her deathbed she named Tyrande her successor, one who was favoured by Elune and touched by the goddess herself. Forced to accept the position, Tyrande held reservations in her own abilities to lead her people fearing she would become another Azshara. Despite this, she led has led her people effectively ever since, perfecting her skills in leadership, prayer and battle. Tyrande's lifelong mate is Malfurion Stormrage, forging a strong friendship with him and his brother Illidan when they were just children.During the beginning of the Ancient Wars, Tyrande convinced that Illidan to leave the Highborne and control his magic addiction. She later released Illidan from his prison to save Felwood from the Burning Legion. During the Battle of Mount Hyjal, Medivh gathered Thrall, Jaina, and Tyande Whisperwind together to stop Archimonde and the Burning Legion.
During the Third War, Tyrande sent her Sentinels to deter the advances of the Horde in Kalimdor, but ultimately ended up working with them to battle the armies of the Burning Legion, an effort that also forced her to awaken the druids, including Malfurion, from the Emerald Dream. Their time together was cut short when the elder Stormrage suffered from the corruption of the Dream, but Tyrande joined her lover to defeat the menace, and they both returned to Azeroth, where they protected their people (and the other races of the Alliance) from the destruction caused by Deathwing and the advances of Garrosh Hellscream in Kalimdor.
Personality[]
Tyrande is the passionate and occasionally rash leader of the night elf Sentinels, High Priestess of Elune and official head of the Night Elf government. A friend of Malfurion and Illidan since childhood, both brothers loved her, but it was Malfurion's affections that she reciprocated. During the reign of Queen Azshara, Tyrande became a novice priestess in the order of the Sisters of Elune. During the battles against the Burning Legion, it became apparent that Tyrande was far more adept at channeling the power of Elune than any other member of her order, to the point that the former High Priestess Dejahna named Tyrande as her successor.
In Legion, Tyrande focuses on the fight against the Legion as she and her people are more familiar with the evils of the Legion than any other except the Draenei. Working alongside heroes of both the Alliance and the Horde, she combats Xavius and his Emerald Nightmare in Val'Sharah. She later leads the Alliance forces sent to aide the Nightfallen in Suramar. Having never forgotten how the Nightborne betrayed and abandoned the Kaldorei during the War of the Ancients, Tyrande still harbors a deep distrust of them.
