John F. Walker, formerly known as Captain America and later known as U.S. Agent, is a major character in the Marvel Cinematic Universe television series The Falcon and the Winter Soldier.
He is a captain in the United States military who was briefly appointed the new "Captain America" following Steve Rogers' retirement, and was tasked with promoting his mantle while also trying to stop the Flag Smashers. Walker would be stripped of the mantle after murdering a surrendering member of the Flag Smashers in public, gaining the ire of Falcon and Bucky Barnes. Though stripped of everything, Walker continued his pursuit of Karli Morgenthau, and would be recruited by Valentina Allegra de Fontaine to be the "U.S. Agent".
He is portrayed by Wyatt Russell, who played Ray Waller in Night Swim.
Biography[]
Early Life[]
As a teenager, Walker was captain of his high school football team, where he met his lifelong friend Lemar Hoskins and his eventual wife Olivia. After high school, Walker and Hoskins joined the military, where they performed numerous acts of valor, earning Walker medals of honor, though he always felt uneasy as to the lives he had to take to earn them.
The Blip[]
Many years later, Thanos' snap wiped out half of all living beings in the universe. It is unknown if Walker was among those who were killed. Five years afterwards, the Avengers brought back all who were lost and defeated Thanos. This event would lead to the return of millions of people, as well as the retirement and supposed death of Steve "Captain America" Rogers. Though Rogers intended for his friend Sam Wilson, the Falcon, to take the mantle of Captain America, Wilson instead donated Captain America's iconic shield to the Smithsonian. However, seeing a need for a new "Captain America" to fill the void left by Rogers, the government chose Walker to fill the role as the United States' new soldier and icon. Although reluctant at first, Walker later accepted and was given a costume and the shield, taking the role as the new "Captain America". He later returned to his high school to give an interview.
The Flag Smashers[]
Walker and his partner Hoskins, now given the codename Battlestar, are tasked with taking down the terrorist orginization known as the Flag Smashers, lead by Karli "Flag Smasher" Morgenthau. He hacks into Falcon's mechanical companion Redwing to locate him in Munich, Germany, and intercepts Falcon and James "Bucky" Barnes, the former Winter Soldier, chasing the Flag Smashers, who have just stolen medicine to give to refugees. Walker and Hoskins arrive to help despite the Falcon and Barnes' resistance. The Flag Smashers escape, and Walker makes an offer to team up, but it is refused.
Back in the United States, Bucky is arrested for missing a court-mandated therapy session, and Walker bails him out. He informs Falcon an Barnes as to what he knows about the Flag Smashers and once again offers to team up, but it is again refused. Walker advises Wilson and Barnes to stay out of his way.
Walker continues to track the Flag Smashers through Europe, fiding supporters of their cause and questioning them. He grows increasingly aggravated when Flag Smasher supporters defy him and spit at him. With no new information, Walker decides to Shadow Falcon and Barnes to try and get information.
Later, the terrorist Helmut Zemo escapes from prison, with help from Wilson and Barnes, to trak down the Super-Soldier serum that the Flag Smashers are using to empower themselves. Walker and Hoskins are assigned to investigate the escape, and Walker was immediately suspicious of Wilson and Barnes.
Walker meets back with Wilson and Barnes in Latvia, confirming to him that they are working with Zemo to defeat the Flag Smashers. Wilson discovers where Morgenthau will be, and requests a chance to speak with her and try to talk her down. Walker agrees, but he and Hoskins go with Wilson, Barnes, and Zemo as backup. Wilson meets with Morgenthau and talks with her, but Walker, fearing her escaping or attacking, loses his patience and goes in to arrest her. She runs and he gives chase until she is attacked by Zemo. During the battle, the vials of Super Soldier serum the Flag Smashers have been using are spilled, and Zemo takes the opportunity to break them all. Morgenthau escapes, and Walker subdues Zemo. However, he notices a vial that Zemo missed, pocketing it for himself.
Becoming a Super Soldier[]
Walker confronts Wilson and Barnes, intent on arresting Zemo. They resist, but are interrupted by the Dora Milaje of Wakanda, sent to retrieve Zemo themselves to face justice for the illing of their former king T'Chaka. Walker resists, and a fight breaks out, with the Dora Milaje against Walker, Hoskins, Wilson, and Barnes. Zemo escapes during the scuffle, and Walker is soundly defeated by Ayo. Walker is humiliated, and sees himself as weak.
Following their defeat, Walker talks with Hoskins, asking if he belives the serum will aid them in their work, and wonders the dangers that may come with it. Though he is afraid that the serum may cause some radical shift in his personailty or health, Walker opts to inject himself, gaining superhuman speed, strength, and agility.
Loss and Fall[]
Walker and Hoskins track Morgenthau and the Flag Smashers, and team up with Falcon and Barnes to fight them off. During the fight, Walker's new superhuman abilites are mad eknown when he displays superhuman strength and speed while fighting the Flag Smashers. However, during the fight, Flag Smasher punches Hoskins with her superhuman strength into a stone pillar, and he is killed on impact. Walker is devastated by the loss, and flys into a rage, chasing down Flag Smasher Nico Kovaczsik through the streets of Latvia. He chases Kovaczsik down and knocks him over, demanding to know where Flag Smasher went. When he refuses to tell, Walker, in a fit of rage, bloodily and brutally kills him in public with his shield. The event is witnesses by Wilson and Barnes, as well as much of the public who record it on their electronic devices.
Walker flees to an abandoned warehouse, full of regret. As he thinks over what he has done, he compromises with himself that it was the most logical course of action. Falcon and Bucky arrive to try and diffuse the situation, offering to help Walker out in exchange for him giving up the shield, but Walker refuses. A fight breaks out, but Falcon and Bucky defeat Walker and confiscate the shield.
Back in America, Walker is reprimanded by the United States Government for his extreme actions, is stripped of his title of Captain America, and dishonorably discharged. Walker attempts to defend himself by stating that he was acting in the country's best intrests and has previously fought for them, but is dismissed. As Walker sits with his wife, they are approached by a woman who introduces herself as Valentina Allegra de Fontaine. She explains to him that the shiled is not the government's property, and that she will get in touch with him with a secial opportunity later.
Later on, Walker goes to visit Hoskins' family, and together they mourn his loss, with Walker describing him like a brother. Enraged by his government seemingly turning their back on him, being stipped of the ranks and titles he worked so hard for, and Hoskins' death, Walker finally breaks down and begins the construction of his own shield, forged from his own medals.
End of the Flag Smashers[]
Walker, with a newly forged shield, travels to New York to fight back the Flag Smashers, who are launching an attack on a Global Repatriation Council meeting in an attempt to stop the vote to send displaced people back to their countries. The Flag Smashers take several GRC members hostage in armored cars and attempt to kill them. As Bucky tries to rescue one car of hostages from a fire, Walker arrives and challenges the Flag Smashers so they will not escape, specifically targeting Morgenthau.
Morgenthau states that she did not mean to kill Hoskins, saying she prefers to not kill those who do not matter to her cause. Walker stands up for his fallen friend, enraged that she thinks he died for nothing. Although Walker puts up a valiant fight, he is overwhelmed by the Flag Smashers, and Bucky comes in and svaes him by knocking away some of his attackers. Walker targets Morgenthau and the two fight, but she manages to evade and escape him, opting to kill the remaining car of hostages by pushing the car off a construction site.
Walker is at first split on whether he should pursue Morgenthau or save the hostages, and soon decides on the latter, using his enhanced strength to grab the car and begin pulling it back up. Morgenthau, enraged, attacks Walker and tackles him into the construction site. Before the car falls, Wilson, who has taken on the mantle of Captain America, arrives and gets the car to safety.
As the remaining Flag Smashers attempt to escape, Walker, Barnes, and Wilson pursue them through the New York underground. They split up, and Walker teams up with Barnes. Using a phone Barnes acquired previously, they send out a false message to the Flag-Smashers to meet at a specific location. When the Flag Smashers arrive, Walker and Barnes confront them, along with police, FBI, and SWAT, and the Flag Smashers are arrested.
Later, Walker is witness to Wilson returning to the surface with Morgenthau's body; shot to death by Sharon Carter. He listens to Wilson convince the GRC members to consider the Flag Smashers' predicament and why they fought so hard to stop them. Afterwards, he exchanges nods with the new Captain America and leaves the city.

Walker reunites with Valentina Allegra de Fontaine, who provides him with a new suit and new title, "U.S. Agent". Walker is overjoyed that he is given another opportunity to fight for his country, celebrating with his wife.

Walker is extremely patriotic, always looking to uphold the laws and honor of his country. He is very driven and determined, intent on completing his goals in an attempt to justify his role and legacy. He has high views of Steve Rogers and other American patriots, seeing them as examples of how to act towards others. He is constantly looking for the best way to complete a task, and is willing to compromise and reason should the occasion call for it.
Despite wearing his title and role with pride, he continually doubts his ability to perform as well as his predecessor and always looks for ways to better himself both physically and tactically. However, he is prone to arrogance and hotheadedness, as well as fits of rage, especially when things continually do not go his way or things are done that put his goal or those he cares about in danger.
Perhaps influenced by the Super Soldier serum, his violent and angry side became slightly more prominent later on and especially after Battlestar's death, where he is unable to keep in his aggression any longer and reacts uncharacteristically wrathful and violent. Despite this, he is able to adapt, and learns to keep his rage and desire for revenge in check, putting aside his strong feelings against the Flag Smashers to protect people and save lives, and is genuinely grateful to those who help him or recognize his contributions.

- Super Soldier Physiology: After taking Wilfred Nagel's Super Soldier Serum, Walker gained several superhuman attributes.
- Superhuman Strength: Walker was able to bend a metal pipe with his bare hands and send Dovich flying with a single punch relatively easily.
- Superhuman Durability: Walker was able to jump out of a building and land on a van without suffering from any physical injuries; such heights would have injured a normal human.
- Superhuman Speed: Walker is capable of catching up to or outrunning speeding vehicles relatively easily.
- Superhuman Reflexes: Walker narrowly avoided a knife being thrown at him by Dovich.
- Superhuman Stamina: Walker can remain physically active for long periods of time.
- Accelerated Healing Factor: Walker's metabolism allows him to heal much faster, more extensively and efficiently. After Walker's arm was broken by Falcon, he was completely healed after a few days.
Abilities[]
- Peak of Human Physical Condition: Even before taking the Super Soldier Serum and through extensive training, Walker was in top physical condition for a man of his age.
- Master Hand-To-Hand Combatant: Through his training in the United States Armed Forces, Walker is a highly skilled hand-to-hand combatant. His combat style is comprised of boxing, firearm improvisation and modern army combat. He was briefly able to go head-on against Karli Morgenthau, despite the latter's superior strength and was able to best several members of the Flag Smashers relatively easily; when he combines his combat skills with the vibranium shield, he was able to take on two members of the Dora Milaje simultaneously, before being overpowered by their superior combat skills. After taking the Super Soldier Serum, Walker's combat skills are amplified by his superior strength, to the point that he was able to take on both Falcon and Winter Soldier simultaneously, even briefly overpowering them individually, however, once Walker was disarmed of the shield, both Falcon and Winter Soldier were able to best him relatively easily, proving that Walker's combat skills are inferior to master level combatants/martial artists; such as Falcon and Winter Soldier.
- Expert Marksman: Walker's training in the military made him highly skilled in the use of firearms.
- Master Shield Fighter: Walker is a highly skilled shield fighter. He can ricochet the shield in a way it returns to his grip. He consistently threw it at the Flag Smashers to knock them down, and even threw it with enough accuracy to catch Battlestar on the concave side.
Weaknesses[]
- Mental Instability: Although the Super Soldier Serum enhanced Walker's physical attributes to superhuman levels, it also amplified his emotions, particularly his negative emotions; making Walker more arrogant, erratic, cruel, unstable and paranoid. He killed Nico in cold blood after he had surrendered, in retaliation for his friend and partner, Lemar Hoskins' death, completely disregarding the fact that it was Karli Morgenthau who actually killed Lemar. After both Falcon and Winter Soldier asked him to hand over Captain America's shield, Walker violently attacked them to the point that he would kill them both given the chance.

- Captain America Uniform: After being appointed as the new Captain America by the U.S. government, Walker wore a protective blue and red suit; similar to the one worn by Steve Rogers. However, after getting stripped of the mantle of "Captain America"; as a result of killing Nico in cold blood in a foreign national, the suit was taken away from him.
- Captain America's Shield: After being appointed as the new Captain America by the U.S. government, Walker used the vibranium shield in a manner similar to Steve Rogers; by utilizing it in a primarily defensive manner and throwing it in an offensive manner. However, after killing Nico in cold blood, the shield was forcibly taken away from him by Falcon and Winter Soldier, as Walker proved himself unworthy of wielding the shield.
