The U.S. Armed Forces, also known as the U.S. Military, are one of the main protagonist factions of the Call of Duty franchise.

They're the military forces of the United States. U.S. federal law names six branches: the Army, Marine Corps, Navy, Air Force, Space Force, and the Coast Guard. Since 1949, all of the armed forces, except the Coast Guard, have been permanently part of the United States Department of Defense. They form six of the eight uniformed services of the United States. While members of different branches regularly appear as heroes, several members have acted as antagonists and put innocent people in danger for their own agendas.

History[]

Formation[]

They originally were a military under the United Kingdom but after July 4, 1776 they became the full US military.

WWII installments[]

Following the Attack on Pearl Harbor, the United States declares war against Japan and Germany and enters World War II with the Allied Powers.

Original Modern Warfare sub-series[]

In the original Modern Warfare sub-series, the U.S. Armed Forces appear as one of the many playable factions alongside the Special Air Services and other tier-one units.

After Saudi Arabian President Yasir Al-Fulani is executed by OpFor Commander Khaled Al-Asad on live-television, the United States sends in the military to end the warlord's coup. Unbeknownst to America, Ultranationalist leader Imran Zakhaev helped Al-Asad with the coup d'état to divert America and the United Kingdom's attention from the Second Russian Civil War. In the Middle East, 1st Force Recon are sent to find Al-Asad and stop his suppose propaganda broadcast but instead find a recording of his speech. The Marines continue to push to Basra to corner Al-Asad, but receive intelligence from the SAS suggesting he has a nuclear warhead. Despite sending in SEAL Team 6 to disarm the nuke, the warhead detonates in the city and killing thirty-thousand American soldiers.

Later on, Al-Asad is captured and killed by the SAS, the remaining 1st Force Recon soldiers are sent to Russia to help the SAS and Loyalists. In the joint-operation, they fail to apprehend Imran's son Victor, resulting in the terrorist leader to prepare a launch of ICBMs on America. While thwarted and killed, Zakhaev is later declared a hero by Russia while the Ultranationalist party gain more power. Additionally, General Shepherd becomes embittered for the death of the thirty-thousand soldiers and prepares to start a war between America and Russia. Terrorist leader Vladimir Makarov also takes command of the Ultranationalists and uses the party to start a cold war within his homeland.

In 2016, General Shepherd picks Army Ranger Joseph Allen to infiltrate Makarov's circle, which allows Makarov to frame the United States for the Zakhaev International Airport massacre. With World War III started, the U.S. Military is tasked with protecting their land from the Russian invasion. Over the course of Modern Warfare II and Modern Warfare III, the players take control of U.S. Army Ranger James Ramirez and Delta Force Sergeant Derek "Frost" Westbrook during the war. In the third installment, the military goes abroad in Germany and France in fighting against the Russian Forces and the Inner Circle. After Task Force 141 and Team Metal rescue the Russian President Boris Vorshevsky, a peace treaty is signed and the war ends.

Rebooted Modern Warfare sub-series[]

The U.S. Military appear in the rebooted Modern Warfare sub-series as a friendly faction, with several characters/operators being current or former members (e.g. Alex Keller and Phillip Graves).

In 2019, the 1st Marine Raiders join CIA agent Alex Keller in locating General Barkov's gas stationed in a Kastovia facility. The operation goes awry when the soldiers are killed by the Al-Qatala, leaving Alex as the only survivor as the insurgents steal the gas. Following the Piccadilly Circus terrorist attack, the United States Marine Corps are sent to Urzkistan to fight against the Al-Qatala. The USMC unit Demon Dogs perform a joint-operation with Alex in capturing Omar "The Wolf" Sulaman, but the terrorist leader is later rescued from the U.S. Embassy.

In 2022, MARSOC perform a joint operation with Task Force 141 to capture or kill Quds Force Major Hassan Zyani, but only find American ballistic missiles inside a warehouse. The unit later help 141 in stopping Hassan from launching a ballistic missile at the Pentagon.

Ghosts[]

In Ghosts, many of the protagonists are members of the United States Armed Forces, including all members of Task Force STALKER.

Advanced Warfare[]

In Advanced Warfare, the United States Marine Corps participate in the Second Korean War, propelling the Korean People's Army from invading Seoul, South Korea. With the assistance of the Atlas Corporation, the U.S. Marines are able to defeat the KPA and stop the invasion. Many soldiers died during the conflict, notably Will Irons, the son of Atlas' CEO Jonathan Irons, who later fell into villainy. The military branch later appear the second mission, attending Will's funeral. Afterward, the U.S. Military fight against the Atlas Corporation during Irons' rise to power.
