The United States Secret Service (USSS) is a faction found in several titles of the Fallout series. In most cases, they serve as part of the Enclave, the U.S. government during the time of the Sino-American War that then led into the Great War/World War III.
In Fallout 76, in the Wastelanders expansion, members of the Secret Service had been entrusted with the United States' gold bullion reserve from Fort Knox and sealing it within Vault 79 to protect it from the threat of nuclear war. However, as the years passed and lack of contact with the U.S. Department of the Treasury, U.S. military, and the Joint Chiefs, including the President, continued, it left the agents with no knowledge of if it was safe to leave the vault, since all they know is that Fort Knox is a pile of smoldering, radioactive rubble at this point, and things began to take their toll on the agents. It wasn't long before a reactor leak caused many of the agents to be turned into feral ghouls by absorbing too much radiation, causing them to turn on their own allies and kill many of them. Only a handful made it into a safe room that locked down because of the reactor leak, but with no way to contact the outside, the agents thought they were done for as they only had a limited supply of food and water to survive.
That all changed when the vault is raided by the Vault 76 Residents and members of either the New Appalachia Raiders or the New Appalachia Settlers. Relieved to see people from outside the vault, AC, the agent in charge, has them head to the reactor to activate the emergency venting system to clear out the radioactive gas. Once the gas is vented, the lockdown is lifted, allowing AC and his fellow agents, including Slick, Regs, Mercy, and Mercy's daughter PITA, to leave their safe room, only to find themselves facing Digger, a fellow agent turned into a ghoul, but still in control of himself and having not gone feral. After the Vault 76 residents decide on Digger's fate, choosing to kill him or spare him, AC and the other agents bring the residents and their allies to the main storage area for the gold reserve. Grateful to being rescued and able to continue their duty protecting the gold, AC allows the Vault 76 residents to leave with 1000 of the bullion, which they can either divide up between themselves and the faction they hit the vault with, keep all to themselves, or split with both the Settlers and Raiders.
Following that, the Secret Service can be revisited often, as Regs serves as their vendor for trading gold bullion for various crafting plans that only the Secret Service can offer versus the gold bullion vendors at Foundation and The Crater.
