Ultear Milkovich (ウルティア・ミルコビッチ Urutia Mirukobicchi) is a major supporting character in the Fairy Tail franchise.
She is a female Mage and the daughter of Ur. She was also a former member of Grimoire Heart, where she was the leader of the Seven Kin of Purgatory. After defecting from the Dark Guild, she became an Independent Mage of Crime Sorcière, alongside Jellal Fernandes and Meredy, until she left following the conclusion of the X791 Grand Magic Games.
She is voiced by Miyuki Sawashiro, Seirō Ogino and Ryoko Ono in the Japanese version of the anime, and by Lydia Mackay and Mark Stoddard in the English version.
Description[]
Ultear is the daughter of the legendary ice wizard Ur. As a child, she underwent torturous experiments at the hands of scientists; when she escaped and saw Ur with Gray and Lyon, she perceived it as abandonment and became resentful to the point of plotting her revenge against her mother. Under the mentorship of Grimoire Heart's Master Hades, Ultear became the leader of the dark guild's powerful Seven Kin of Purgatory, manipulating many wizards to further her own schemes, including Jellal. When she finally realizes the truth of her past, however, Ultear leaves Grimoire Heart to help form Crime Sorcière.
Appearance[]
Ultear is a Caucasian woman with a light skin complexion, dark purple hair and brown eyes. She also has a rather voluptuous figure and wears a long revealing dress, sporting a striped pattern. In combat she changes into a tight fitting battle outfit. The battle suit is sleeveless and skin-tight, being divided into 3 sections; the main body of the suit and the legs of the suit from the thigh down are both white with black patterning, with the space between them being a deep brown. After the timeskip, however, she wears a completely different suit that's grey and white along with a blue cape and long boots that reach all the way up to her thighs. She has also stopped wearing lipstick and the Grimoire Heart tattoo that used to be on her back has been replaced with a Crime Sorcière one, which is surrounded by a large scar in the shape of an X.
Personality[]
Prior to her redemption, Ultear starts off as a manipulative, ruthless and ambitious woman, not having any problem with sacrificing lives to obtain what she wants, even going as far as to control children. She also regards her mother with disdain, classifying her as weak. Conversely, she has a pretty good relationship with Meredy, whom she is very close with. However, she doesn't like it when Meredy calls her "Ur", possibly indicating that she has issues as well as hatred towards her late mother, although later on Meredy claims that because of Ur's death, Ultear has suffered. One of her other notable traitis is that she's determined to find and reawaken Zeref, as he can apparently save her from something that is troubling her. When she found him, she even started to cry from happiness and hugged his unconscious body, claiming that he was hers.
However, it is later revealed that Ultear is not truly evil, but rather, the victim of an unfortunate history. After thinking her mother abandoned her, she found herself under the tutelage of Hades, and through it learned the Magic Arc of Time. From it, she was led to believe that once she reaches the Ultimate Magic World, she would be able to complete the Arc of Time, and with it, be able to go back in time to relive and change her past.
Therefore, the reason she was able to commit all the atrocities she did was because she thought she would be able to undo them once she completes the Arc of Time and subsequently go back and live the life she wanted. However, after learning the truth about her mother from Gray, Ultear realizes her mistakes. She finally admits her wrongdoings and confesses her feelings for Meredy, and once forgiven, they embrace in mutual love for each other, marking the point where Ultear gradually begins to change for the better. After the timeskip, she is shown to have become much more laidback, friendly and honorable, though she still retains a a bit of a twisted sense of humor and can be quite pragmatic in certain situations.
Abilities and Powers[]
Ultear's magic, the Arc of Time, gives her complete control over any inanimate object's flow of time. She also inherited Ur's proficiency for Ice Make.
