You know, I used to think that I had made my own decision. Fate, salvation, I believed in all those comfortable, justifying words...But I was blind to what was truly going on.
~ Unika

Unika is a major character in the Guilty Gear series, who debuts in the animation series Guilty Gear -Strive- Dual Rulers. She also made her playable debut in Guilty Gear -Strive- as part of Season Pass 4. In reality, she is actually a half-Gear herself, and revealed to be Dizzy and Ky Kiske's biological daughter and Sin Kiske's younger sister from an alternate dark future.

She is voiced by Yui Ishikawa in the Japanese version.

Physical Appearance[]

Unika is a young woman of short black hair streaked with blue on her fringe who hides crimson eyes behind light gray goggles; the lenses are dark orange in color while their shape resembles that of cat ears. Her outfit consists of a long, white sleeveless turtleneck with "T.E.O.C" written in sky-blue on the chest area, and an orange light jacket with three-quarter sleeves and brown belts serving as shoulder straps. She wears an oversized blue jacket with light brown lining and silver details, sports black shorts, matching thigh-high socks, and boots that are slightly lighter in color. She also possesses a black and white helmet , visible during her character intro, with black ears like her masks and with "GRAND" written in glowing red text on the visor.

Personality[]

Initially, she had an animosity towards all Gears. Until a brief talk with Bridget along with remembering Sin's determination to prevent second Crusades; then when she found out that she herself is a Gear and had been used as a disposable tool by the Future Nerville the entire time, she is revealed to be naïve and gullible. Nevertheless, ever since learning her true heritage from her true family, then ultimately upon witnessing Bridget got out of commission after critically injured by Nerville, Unika seeks an atonement to make up her mistakes. She receives some valuable wisdom from Giovanna about not caring what anyone else thinks of her, though, during her time in the Secret Service.

History[]

Background[]

Unika originates from a future where an anti-Gear virus developed by Nerville Hammer that Dizzy had become infected with caused all Gears to go berserk, leading to a 'second Crusade'. She hatched from an egg that Dizzy laid before she died, and never knew her birth parents. Despite adopting her, Nerville never saw Unika as a person, and began to use her Gear cells to modify himself. At some point, Nerville and Unika found Axl Low after he had found himself in their future, and Nerville explained the state of their future to him before taking control of him and using his power to send Unika back in time. At some point after this, Nerville sent her to the present from this future, along with the virus, to meet with his present self and explain the circumstances of their future to him. Unika's knowledge of the future aided Nerville in obtaining immense wealth.

Guilty Gear Strive: Dual Rulers[]

Set after the events of "Strive", Ky Kiske and Dizzy are set to be married and hope to establish peaceful relations between humans and Gears going forward. But the ceremony is interrupted by a girl named Unika who attacks Dizzy, still seeing Gears as evil. Sol Badguy and Ky and Dizzy's son, Sin, manage to thwart the assassination attempt at the expense of Ky and Dizzy getting frozen. But now must find out who Unika is and why she is doing this.

Sol and Sin follow Unika to a run down city that distrusts Gears in the hope of keeping her from activating her plan. All the while, Sin tries to understand her motives, leading to a confrontation of ideals when they re-encounter & fight each other once more that result in Sin's latent Gear abilities activating.

After the events of the previous episode, Unika is found and tended to by Bridget while Sin recovers from the fight, with both starting to reconsider their methods after briefly seeing the others' memories during their fight. Sol and Sin start to reach the conclusion someone else is backing Unika and behind everything. Suddenly Sin finds himself dubbed "The King of Gears" after he unwittingly activated the dormant Gears of the area, putting him in an awkward position with this newfound power.
