Next-Gen-Netflix-movie-1

Although his creator created him to recreate the concept of human emotions and memories and defeat Ares, he did more than that.

My first proposal for a Netflix character?

What's the work?[]

Next Gen is a Sci-Fi film released on Netflix in2018. It feels the story about a tragic girl named Mai Su, who accidentally activates 7723 who wanted to be her friend, but she rejected him and leaves (and accidentally forgot her backpack), but as soon as it gets dark, she starts to like him, not because he brought her backpack, but because she could use him to destroy as many robots as she wants.

One day, Mai realizes that she had gone too far when she started seeing Greenwood scared, to 7723 prevent him from hurting anyone, he said to disable all weapons.

Shortly after, they are discovered by Ares who reveals his plans to wipe out humanity and kidnaps her mother Molly Su.

Once the two heroes arrive at IQ Robotics, they discover that Justin Pin has been killed and has become part of Ares.

At the end of the fight, 7723 lost his memory to weaken Ares so Mai could destroy him, shortly after, 7723 activates again and she went to create new memories for him.

Who is he and what does he do?[]

  • Upon meeting Mai, he agreed to become her friend when she asked this (although she only asked him this question because she believes he is crazy).
  • After she forgot her backpack, he followed her to return it.
  • He destroyed a robotic toothbrush when he tried to force Mai to brush against her will.
  • Upon receiving his backpack, he asked if he could keep it to make sure he deserves it.
  • He helped Mai face off against Greenwood, destroying one of her Q-Bots to scare her away.
  • Even though the first memory was bad, he still considered it a good memory and only erased it when Mai told him to.
  • He asked her if they could go a day without blowing up robots, which means he never found pleasure in doing so.
  • Instead of making Greenwood grieve over Mai's survival, he told the latter that they should be friends.
  • Instead of undoing other memories, he undid the weapons so he was no longer dangerous.
  • In the scene where Ares came to attack Mai and her mother, he fought to protect them and stopped Mai from saving her mother because he knew they wouldn't be able to save her in this scene.
  • Despite Mai leaving him, he still came back to her to save her mother.
  • During the fight with Ares, he tried to redeem him to no avail.
  • He decided to delete all of his memories to recover the weapons, save Mai from a big fall, and destroy Ares so he doesn't destroy humanity (deleting the memories can be seen as a sacrifice because once the memories are all gone, he no longer would be the same as it was).
  • Despite forgetting everything, he went to reminisce with Mai's help.

Admirable Standard[]

Despite being created to save humanity, he has proven to have a moral agency for the following reasons:

  • At first, he was not raised to be friends with Mai and became friends with her by his own choice.
  • Being the first robot to be honest with Mai, this means that unlike most robots who were sometimes boring, 7723 is fun and kind (it's also thanks to him that she doesn't hate robots that much anymore).
  • He is kind to animals, something other robots are not.
  • Unlike Mai who was shown to be sadistic for the way she tried to get revenge on Greenwood, he had no interest in getting revenge like that and told her that she doesn't really want to make her suffer.
  • He is one of the only robots in the movie to have a unique personality of his own (the only other robot like that is Ares, whose personality is the opposite of his).
  • Ultimately, he was willing to lose his memory so he could defeat Ares (although he couldn't destroy him, he at least managed to weaken him enough for Mai to destroy him on her own).

Corrupting Factors[]

Despite having destroyed several bots during the movie, he never did it out of sadism as he begged Mai not to destroy a Q-Bot that tried to flee in panic and furthermore, he had no interest in killing Greenwood (not even hurting her). ), thus showing that he values human life, he had good excuses for destroying other robots, for example:

  • The first robot went because I wasn't letting him go and return the backpack to Mai.
  • The robots that tried to attack him was because he thought they wanted to destroy the lost backpack.
  • The toothbrush was because he tried to force Mai to brush her teeth against her will.
  • Other robots to follow was because he was fulfilling a deal he made with her.
  • In the end, he tried to destroy Ares because he was monstrous and wanted to destroy humanity, so 7723 had to stop him.

He removed his own memory storage because he didn't know it was important to him and thought it was just bothering him.

After Ares' defeat, he tried to destroy a robot for no reason, though this must be due to his memory loss.

Overall Verdict[]

I'm not really sure if he's Pure Good, but I at least tried.
