Unlike the novel version, this version appears to have crossed at least a Goodness Zone.
Like Charlie Bucket, he appears to be Pure Good in only a certain version.
What's the work?[]
James and the Giant Peach is an adaptation of the book of the same name about a boy whose parents were killed by a rhino and he had to move in with his abusive aunts Sponge and Spiker, luckily he manages to escape along with his friends (who are giant insects) and go on a trip to New York.
Who is he and what does he do?[]
James Henry Trotter is the titular protagonist of the movie James and the Giant Peach whose parents were eaten by a rhino made of clouds.
- He did not allow his evil aunts to make him forget the idea of going to New York, nor did he allow them to break his spirit.
- He saved Miss Spider from Sponge and Spiker when she was a regular spider.
- Although at first he was afraid of the giant insects, he later befriended them.
- When using Earthworm as a bait to attract seagulls, he did it out of necessity and no showed pleasure in what he did, he also even told him that he was a hero.
- He and Miss Spider saved Mr. Centipede when he was in danger.
- He faced Rhino to protect his friends and conquered his fear for him, making him disappear forever.
- When his evil aunts came for him, he defeated them and handed them over to the police for their crimes.
- Although he may not have done that much in the story, it's because he has little recourse due to him being an ordinary child.
Admirable Standard[]
Unlike his novel version, this version actually crosses the Goodness Zone:
- By bringing the group to the ocean, he was responsible for the shark's destruction and prevented it from continuing to destroy fish and leave their heads on plates.
- By overcoming his fear for the Rhino, he avenged his parents' deaths because it erased this monster from existence.
- He faced his aunts for their abuse and turned them over to the authorities for their actions against him.
Corrupting Factors[]
Despite his aunts' attempts to be "nice" to him, he refused to go back to them, as he already knew they wanted to manipulate him into enslaving him again and he wouldn't allow it.
Overall Verdict[]
I think only the movie version deserves to qualify.
