She-Ra Character Profile

Here we are at my 6th PG proposal, and I'm honestly surprised no one has given her one before me. (note, I've only seen the series once, so I might be a bit rusty and a lot is skimmed over)

What is the Work?[]

She-Ra and the Princesses of Power is a netflix re-telling of the short lived 80's cartoon of the same name, which was a spin-off of the hit cartoon He-Man and the Masters of the Universe.

Who is she/What has she done[]

Like her 80's counterpart, Adora was born on the planet Eternia. Unlike her 80's counterpart, we never learn if she is Eternia's lost Princess or if she has a twin brother, Adam. But regardless of the circumstances of her birth or biological family, she was kidnapped as a baby by Light Hope, and taken through a portal to another planet called Etheria. There she was found by the conqueror, Hordak, who handed her over to be raised by his second in command, Shadow Weaver.

Over the next 16 years, Adora grew up as a soldier for the Horde, and had a close bond to a fellow soldier, Catra. One day though, for a bit of mischief, the two got seperated and Adora found a strange sword in the forest. Shortly after picking it up, Adora finds that it has the power to transform her into She-Ra, Princess of Power, and Etheria's protector. She also meets Glimmar, Princess of Brightmoon, and Bo, Glimmar's best friend and a skilled archer. Through them, she learns that the Horde are actually the villains as they have enslaved and killed civilians. Adora later meets up with Catra again who wants to bring her back, but Adora refuses and asks Catra to join her. Catra however, also refuses. After her first battle as She-Ra, Adora travels to Brightmoon and swears fealty to Queen Angela, Glimmar's mother.

Over the next episodes and seasons, She-Ra manages to recruit other Princesses to the cause of fighting Hordak, including Perfuma, Mermista, Frosta, and Entrapta, who ends up defecting to the Horde after being presumed dead in a rescue mission and starts to think that no one appreciates her. She-Ra also has regular encounters with Catra and she regularly tried to redeem her, but to no avail, as Catra sees this as her chance to finally escape Adora's shadow, as Shadow Weaver favored Adora over Catra. Adora eventually gave up trying to reform Catra after she nearly destroyed all of reality by opening an unstable portal, but in truth, she was lying to herself. For a part of Adora still cared for Catra.

Adora also learned that the first inhabitants of Etheria, called the First Ones intended to use Etheria as a weapon called the Heart of Etheria, and that Light Hope, who had been a mentor to her, was programmed to activate it. In order to stop Mara and reform her, Adora had to make the ultimate sacrifice, she destroyed the sword and lost her power. To make matters worse, Horde Prime, Hordak's creator and the true villain of the series finally makes his move and captures Catra and Glimmar.

Despite the loss of her power, Adora continued to resist Horde Prime in whatever way she could, and managed to rescue Entrapta from a dangerous island. She and Bo later found Glimmar who had escaped Prime's ship with the help of a reformed Catra. Despite everything her former friend had done, Adora still decided to save her life. After encountering Horde Prime for the first time, and facing a brainwashed Catra, the latter was wounded badly and in Adora's anguish, her powers briefly returned and this allowed her to defeat Prime's minions, heal Catra and escape. While they escaped, the friends reconciled. After a trip through space, the heroes returned to Etheria where they learned that Prime sought to use the Heart of Etheria to rule the universe. After rescuing brainwashed allies, rallying all of Etheria to fight back, including all former enemies, Adora and Catra storm the Heart of Etheria to disable the weapon. But Adora is unable to transform into She-Ra, preventing her from destroying the Heart and allowing for Prime's hive mind to hack into the Heart of Etheria. Upon gaining control of the Heart, Horde Prime proclaims his victory. He is begged by Entrapta not to use the Heart and told that activating it would wipe out both him and the entire universe. Prime callously disregards Entrapta's warnings and orders Hordak to kill her.

Horever, thanks to his love for Entrapta is able to resist and seemingly kill Horde Prime. But Prime's soul is still in his hive mind system and possesses Hordak. Now driven insane, Prime decided to use the heart to wipe out all life, including himself. Meanwhile, Catra and Adora struggle to shut down the heart, and Adora comes near Deaths door due to the Heart's dangerous power core. Just as it seems that all hope is lost and Adora is about to fall to her death, Catra begs Adora to take her and and out of anguish, desperation, and love, Catra proclaims that she had always loved Adora. After being rescued, Adora returns the feelings, and their love reawakens She-Ra's power, destroying the Heart and saving the universe. After returning to the surface, She-Ra defeated Prime once and for all by expelling his soul from Hordak's body.

Whew!

Goodness Zone/Admirable factors[]

She-Ra, throughout the series, has always been shown trying to defend innocent people, friends, and managed to reform all but one of her enemies. Entrapta, Scorpia, even Catra whom had personally betrayed her and tried to wipe out reality, Adora never truly gave up on her, and in the end, their love saved all life. Even Hordak of all people, the main antagonist for the first seasons, was spared by She-Ra. The only person to not be reformed was Horde Prime, but he fell even further then Catra thousands of years ago, no one could have pulled him back as he is labeled as PE. So the best thing for her to do was cut out the disease that is Horde Prime.

Corrupting Factors[]

Adora did briefly decide to stop trying to reform Catra and believed that she could not be reformed. But still, a part of her still cared about her former friend enough to try and save her. despite everything she had done. She also acts rather irresponsibly and disobeys orders in earlier stages of the show. But over the course of the series, she matures and becomes more responsible.

Final Verdict[]

I vote yes. She saved the universe, her friends, all life, and brought villains who other heroes would have no problem killing, back to the good side. And in the end, her love of Catra saved the universe. It wasn't a act of violence, an act of love that saved the universe. The rest I leave to you.
