Hey there! This has been a long time coming as I've been wanting to make this proposal for a while and now I finally can! My first ever Pure Good Proposal is Wade Ripple from the movie Elemental.
What's the Work?
Elemental is a 2023 animated romanic comedy film by Disney and Pixar. The film follows Ember Lumen and Wade Ripple's growing romance as they navigate the complex and challenging nature of the relationship between a water and fire person.
Who Is He and What Has He Done?
Wade Ripple is a city inspector from Element City. One day he winds up in the Fireplace, a shop where Ember works and is run by her father Bernie. Wade ends up informing her he has to report how her place isn't up to safety standards due to plumbing issues and ends up being chased by her all the way to City Hall. Feeling bad after she reveals how much her father worked on the shop, he tries to help her stop it from getting shut down. When Wade and Ember talk to his boss, Gale Cumulus, Gale lets the two know she'll stop the Fireplace from closing if they can find the source of a major leak Wade was investigating before and fix it within a week.
They begin their search and bond when Ember opens up to Wade about how she's always wanted to see a Vivisteria flower since she was a child but never could due to the prejudice she and her family faced. Soon after, they find the leak and manage to fill it in and the duo begin to go out with each other after Wade asks her out. However, Wade and Ember soon discover the sandbags they used to fill in the leak aren't holding, so Ember uses her fire to create a glass wall out of them, making a more permanent solution in the process. Worried about whether or not Gale told Wade that the glass she made worked, Ember visits Wade at his home, where he introduces her to his family and eats with them. Soon, Ember finds herself playing "The Crying Game" with Wade and his family, where Wade admits he loves her, causing her to shed a single tear. When Ember leaves after being offered a glass making internship by Wade's mother, Wade follows her back to her home where she admits she doesn't think she actually wants to run the Fireplace like she thought she did.
The next day, Wade takes Ember to the same garden she told him about before in order to see the Vivisteria flowers. With the Garden now flooded, Gale provides an air bubble for Ember to be in so the duo can traverse the tunnels, with Wade guiding Ember along. After seeing the flowers and narrowly escaping before the air bubble collapses, Ember and Wade finally touch for the first time and dance with each other. However, remembering how she's meant to run her father's shop, Ember suddenly leaves and briefly argues with Wade before breaking up with him and heading back home. Soon after at Ember's party where Bernie announces how he plans to retire and leave the Fireplace to her, Wade interrupts and declares his love for Ember, encouraging her to be honest with her father. However, Ember rejects him, claiming she doesn't love Wade. Disappointed, Wade leaves while Bernie calls off his retirement.
Later, the glass seal Ember made breaks and ends up flooding Firetown and the Fireplace. While Wade is about to leave Element City, he notices Firetown is in trouble and immediately goes back to help Ember. The two end up stuck in a room in the Fireplace where Wade begins to evaporate due to how hot it is. Ember tries to open up a hole in the room so Wade can be saved, but he stops her as he doesn't want her to get extinguished by the flood. Crying, Ember tells him she loves him and he appears to fully evaporate and die. Not long after, Ember is found by Bernie and the two reconcile as she tearfully hugs him. Ember and Bernie soon hear the sounds of Wade crying however. Realizing Wade is still alive and is simply condensation in the room where the two were stuck, Ember plays The Crying Game and causes Wade to cry and fully form again. Overjoyed, the two hug and share their first kiss.
Months later after the shop is fixed, Wade and Ember leave Element City so that Ember can begin her glass-making internship.
Corrupting Factors
None come to mind. The worst thing Wade has done is report Ember's shop to City Hall and argue with her. However, he only reported her workplace as it was his job and he did indeed feel bad about it after she opened up to him. He also only argued with her because she started it first, and even while arguing with her he never got overly aggresive or mean and only wanted her to be honest with both herself and her father about what she really wanted, showing he only has her best interests at heart.
Admirable Standard
He passes with flying colors in my book. He's extremely kind and open minded to everyone, including Fire people despite there being a large prejudice against them from the Water, Earth, and Air people. He never holds a grudge or gets mad at anyone throughout the movie, such as after he got rudely chased out of the Fireplace by Ember's dad. He doesn't speak illy of him or get bitter when he sees him again at Ember's party. He also never got spiteful towards Ember when she coldly and arguably unfairly broke up with him. Rather, he still went after her and lovingly tried to get her to open up to her father, still having her best interests at heart.
His most defining trait that really makes him stand out has to be his selflessness. When he finds out how much Ember's father's shop meant to them, he immediately offers his assistance in stopping it from getting shut down, going above and beyond for no other reason other than he wanted to help. His most heroic act however comes from when he came back to help Ember save Firetown, despite how rudely she rejected him at her party. He was willing to give up his own life and evaporate when the two of them ended up stuck in a hot room together so that Ember could live, with neither knowing that he would be fine.
Final Verdict
A hard YES from me. His never wavering selflessness and his undying love is enough for him to be pure good in my eyes. Let me know what you all think however, and thank you for taking the time to read my first ever Pure Good Proposal!
