Hello, everyone! And welcome back to another proposal! This time, it's a Collab with a fellow user Berando1077 on two characters from a popular Nintendo franchise. While we say we are confident about the first one, I'm not too sure about the second one since overall this is a Avatar character, but then again, we do have some Avatar characters who are pure good, so I ain't too worried about this one.
With that said, allow us to introduce: Chrom and Robin.
What's the Work?
Fire Emblem is a highly popular Nintendo video game franchise, known for its tactical strategies, wonderful role-playing stories, amazing cast of characters (heroes and villains alike), the support system, and so on.
Fire Emblem Awakening is the 2012 tactical video game that is the thirteenth installment in the Fire Emblem franchise released in the Nintendo 3DS. It is also known as the game that saved the franchise from being cancelled, as the game received commercial critical acclaim and restored the franchise back on its feet. This game takes place in the Archanea Saga, making the game chronologically the fourth installment of the story saga.
In this game, you play as Robin (The Avatar's canon name), the central character of the game but is more of the deuteragonist, where the actual main protagonist of the game is Chrom, the prince of Ylisse, the descendant of the legendary hero king Marth, and leader of the Shepherds, a militia group dedicated to protect the Halidom of Ylisse from those whom threaten it, especially from their rivaling neighbor, the Theocracy of Plegia. In their journey, they are accompanied by a mysterious stranger who identifies himself as "Marth", serving as the tritagonist. We later learn that "Marth" is actually Lucina, the future daughter of Chrom, who comes from a future where the world is destroyed by an evil being that has turned the world into a hellish apocalypse.
We later learn that this was caused by none other than the Fell Dragon known as Grima, a powerful and ancient evil being worshiped by Plegia, who is dedicated to eradicating the world. This being is also supported by a fanatical cult leader by the name of Validar, who has strong ties to Robin and his past. In order to save their future, our heroes go forth to stop Grima and ensure that their future is saved from his evil.
Who are they? and What have they done?
Chrom
Chrom is the main protagonist of the game. He is the prince of the nation of Ylisse, younger brother of Exalt Emmeryn, younger brother of Lissa, and father of Lucina. He is also the leader of a military group known as the Shepherds, who are dedicated to protect Ylisse from those who seek to harm their homeland, such as in the case of the Theocracy of Plegia.
In the first arc of the game, Chrom would serve as the main commander of the Shepherd unit, leading the fight against the Theocracy of Plegia, ruled by the Mad King Gangrel, who sought to wage war against Ylisse for their crusade against their nation, plotting to use the Fire Emblem to achieve his goals. To ensure their success, Chrom would also go to form an alliance with Regna Ferox, ruled by the Khans Flavia and Basilio.
The war unfortunately causes the life of his sister Emmeryn, who sacrifices her life in hopes of saving Chrom and preventing the Embelm into getting in Gangrel's hands. This act saddens Chrom and briefly became vengeful, but he quickly focus on restoring back his forces' strength and end the Mad King's tyranny. Eventually, Gangrel was defeated and peace was brought back to the continent. Afterwards, he would marry Sumia (obviously canon choice here) and the two would later have a daughter name Lucina.
Robin
NOTE: For this proposal, I've decided to use Male Robin for this for many obvious reasons. You're still free to use whatever gender you like for this Robin though. |
Robin is the deuteragonist and central character of the game. He is a mysterious but otherwise friendly man who suffers from amnesia, having no memory of who he was, where he was born from, and so forth.
Robin first encounters Chrom, alongside Lissa and Frederick, when he is found in the middle of the field. Despite Frederick's judgement of Robin, Chrom decided to recruit the latter after he displayed incredible skills and a gifted mind of intellect and strategies.
Afterwards, Robin would support Chrom and the Shepherds in the fight against Gangrel, developing new strategies and creating a strong bond with Chrom. Eventually, their fight against Gangrel resulted in their victory and Robin would continue on serving Chrom as he would become the new Exalt of Ylisse.
Act Two
Eventually, after two years of peace following the end of the Ylisse-Plegia War, Ylisse would be throw into another conflict when they receive word from their ally Virion that his country Valm is planning launch an invasion on their country. After they repelled the first of Valm's armies that arrived on their shores, Chrom decides to make an alliance with Plegia to battle off this new threat. Validar, the new king of Plegia, gives them the ships they need to travel to Valm while introducing both Chrom and Robin to his Hierophant, who bores the same look and name as the latter does. Despite being unsettled by this, they decided to remain focus on Valm.
At night, Robin is approached by Validar, who reveals to him of his true origins: He is Validar's son and a vessel for his master, the Fell Dragon Grima. Before the sorcerer could potentially sway Robin, a Risen army attacks the Shepherds, forcing him to retreat. After fighting back the Risen, one last member of the undead army tries to ambush Chrom, with a desperate Marth coming to his rescue, revealing herself as Chrom's daughter from the future Lucina. After a emotional meeting with Chrom and Sumia, Lucina reveals her purpose for being in the present timeline: In the future, their world and humanity is eradicated by the Fell Dragon Grima, which was heralded by the death of Chrom, who was killed by a close ally. Seeing his daughter's turmoil, Chrom allows Lucina to join his forces and promises to overcome her ill-fated future together.
During Chrom's trials in Valm, the Shepherds recused Say'ri, a resistance leader against Emperor Walhart, at the Valmese Port. As thanks for her rescue, Say'ri takes them to Mila Tree, where they meet Tiki, the daughter of Naga and a longtime friend of Marth. Tiki then reveals to Chrom that he does not have the means to defeat the Fell Dragon unless he can complete the Fire Emblem to achieve his goal, with the item only having the white gemstone Argent. She then entrusts the blue gemstone Azure to Chrom, and tasks him to find the other gemstones to complete the Emblem. She also notes that Robin possessed power similar to her own, but does not go beyond that.
After capturing Fort Steiger, Basilio stalls Walhart to give Chrom and the others time to take down Yen'fay, one of Walhart's lieutenants. While they do accomplish their task, Basilio unfortunately loses his life, but not before giving the red gemstone Gules to Flavia, who gives the gemstone to Chrom. The Shepherds then battle Walhart and his forces, and after a long battle, Chrom defeats the Emperor, ending the war between Ylisse and Valm. Say'ri then receives the green gemstone, Vert, and gives it to Chrom. With four of the five gemstones on the Emblem recovered, Chrom and the others searches for the last gemstone, Sable, which is in the possession of Validar, who wishes to meet them in order to hand over the last gemstone.
Act Three
However, upon arriving at Plegia Castle, it is revealed that Validar giving the Shepherds the last gemstone was a ruse, betraying them as he has his forces attack them. Despite their best efforts, Validar successfully managed to steal the Emblem and disappears to the Dragon's Table to perform the awakening of Grima. Robin, feeling guilty of Validar controlling him, insists to be left behind in fear that Validar may control him, but Chrom reminds him that it was not his fault and that he needs his assistance. Robin then goes to talk with Lucina, who attempts to kill him as she reveals her reason: In the future, the future ally who would kill Chrom, was Robin, who was controlled by Grima to commit the deed. Whether he accepts or refuses her judgement, Lucina decides not to go through with it (made more emotional if Robin is her husband) and Chrom luckily stepping in, convincing her to believe in the bonds that were form with Robin.
Before they enter into the Dragon's Table, Robin requests Chrom that if he is controlled by Grima and Validar, he must kill him before he can kill anyone else, with Chrom reluctantly agreeing. After defeating Validar, it appears that Robin is possessed by Grima yet again and kills Chrom. Lucina is horrified and a recovered Validar declares that he has won. Or so, that's what he believes. Unexpectedly, Basilio makes a sudden appearance, revealing that he survived his near-fatal wound from Walhart, and Robin stands back up and attacks Validar, revealing that due to a premonition he had, he knew this would happen and prepared a counter-plan. Chrom also stands up, mostly uninjured, since Robin held back some of their power. The duo then proceed to slay Validar once and for all.
However, the hierophant appears and reveals himself as the Grima who possessed Robin from the future timeline Lucina and the second generation comes from, revealing that he had used his time in the present to regain enough power to restart his attack on the world and promptly leaves, as he no longer needs Robin's body to accomplish his goals. Naga then reaches out to Chrom and the Shepherds, and has them go to Mount Prism, where Chrom undergoes the Awakening trial to unlock the full power of Falchion, which can be use to put Grima into another thousand year slumber, and points to Origin Peak, where Grima lies and is becoming to stronger. Robin also realizes that due to his connections to Grima, he can put an end to the Fell Dragon permanently. While Naga confirms this, she also warns him that if he does, Robin would also die as a result, something that Chrom is unwilling to allow. Nevertheless, the Shepherds prepare for their final fight against the Fell Dragon.
Upon landing on the back of the Fell Dragon, Grima strikes the Shepherds with a massive attack, leaving them critically wounded, while trapping Robin in a void. However, thanks to Chrom and everyone else's encouragement, Robin escapes the void and Naga heals the Shepherds for the final clash against Grima. After a long and grueling battle, Grima is heavily weakened, and his fate lies in either Chrom's or Robin's hands.
- If Chrom is the one deals the final blow, Grima is sealed away for another thousand years, as Naga had foretold. While Robin laments that they lost an major opportunity to rid the world of the Fell Dragon, Chrom, along with his family and friends, assures him that they made the right choice, with Chrom believing that their future descendants will be more capable of handling Grima as they have.
- If Robin is the one who deals the final blow, he gathers up Grima's energy and casts a powerful spell on the Fell Dragon, permanently killing him once and for all. However, Robin's body begins to disintegrate, much to Chrom and his friends' distraught. Robin thanks them all, and hopes to meet them all in the next life. Although they are all sadden by his death, they express faith that he may return and they will wait patiently for him as they rebuild the world. At some point, Robin awakens once again, being found in a grass field by both Chrom and Lissa, much like their first meeting. As Chrom helps him back on his feet, the Mark of Grima no longer appears on Robin's right hand, with the former welcoming back Robin, letting him that the chaos is finally over.
The Future Past
In this story, Naga sends Chrom, Robin, and the Shepherds of the main timeline in another timeline of Awakening, where Grima successfully gains control of Robin's body, while at the same time, indirectly controls his child Morgan as well (alongside another Morgan from another timeline) and similar to the first future timeline, Grima manages to plunge the world into despair, but Ylisstol still continues to fight back against the Fell Dragon and his armies. They are sent there to protect their children and help put an end to Grima and his chaos. After saving all of their children, the Shepherds aid Lucina and the second generation of the Future Past in battling off Grima.
We also learned that Robin of the Future Past timeline has been trying to fight off Grima's control of him, but unfortunately cannot, and even use the last of his strength and consciousness to return Chrom and his army to their world so he does not have to kill him again. After Lucina performs the Awakening and unlocks Falchion, she uses it to kill Grima, who tries to fight back but cannot due to Robin's will preventing the Fell Dragon to move away, allowing her to land a decisive blow on him and kill Grima. With his final breath, he thanks Lucina for ending his suffering and apologize Morgan for putting him through so much pain.
Corrupting Factors
In Chrom's case, we don't see any corrupting factors, as he is described as an unconventional prince and he treats people equally, reminding them that he is the prince without being untypically demanding and being extremely trusting. After all, he has a big heart, trying to do his best even though he doesn't always succeed.
While Chrom did somewhat lose himself after losing his eldest sister, becoming briefly vengeful, he quickly regained his senses and continue on being a righteous hero, as he was willing to spare Gangrel despite his horrible actions. And while he is hostile to Gangrel, this isn't without justifications since Gangrel was a mad and violent man who wanted war with Ylisse. And even then, he was willing to give Gangrel a chance to atone, despite making it clear he would not forgive him for his actions.
Robin also displays no corruption whatsoever, as he is always calm and patient, and he also has nothing that could disqualify him, and although sometimes he happens to be a bit of a joker, but mainly for good reasons.
Admirable Standards
Yeah, the admirable standards when it comes to the Fire Emblem franchise are ridiculously high. This is a fantasy series where heroes go against tyrannical empires, evil dragons, dark wizards, bandits, etc. And they also tend to have either high resources (since they are a Lord/Hero-type of character who leads a large group and possesses powerful weapons or magic) or low resources (who managed to stand out the most with their unique admirable deeds).
But in the case of both Chrom and Robin's case, we feel like they easily passes for their admirable deeds such as defending Ylisse from threats like Gangrel and Walhart, and defeating the Fell Dragon Grima, Validar, and the Cult of Grimleal, saving the entire world as a result. But for their own admirable deeds:
- In the case of Chrom's biggest admirable deeds, we say for one thing, being willing to spare Gangrel and offer him to surrender despite everything he did, including causing the death of his older sister. He also tried to reason with Walhart, only fighting him when the Emperor of Valm refused to listen. Having faith in Robin, despite being a vessel of Grima, and even trying to ensure he survives. And there's him defeating Grima, sealing his spirit into a slumber for a thousand years. As for as resources goes, I can confidently say he possess enough resources since he is a Lord-type character who is the leader of a militia unit and later on, ruler of a nation, as well as a unique weapon that is use to defeat Grima and seal him away.
- In Robin's case, he quickly displays his selfless nature by helping his friends on the battlefield and willing to sacrifice himself should Grima take control of his body, which is best seen with Lucina (allowing her to kill him) and Chrom (requesting that Chrom kills him should Grima take control). But his biggest admirable deed he has done is killing Grima permanently, since he is linked to the Fell Dragon, but that would mean he will die as a result. Despite this, Robin still takes the risk and kills the Fell Dragon to put an end to him once and for all. And while his resources may not be as high as Chrom's, but I still think he possess enough since he is the strategist of Chrom's militia unit and is the vessel for the most powerful and evil being in the game.
They also do much more in the Future Past DLC, where they saved Lucina and the second generation from being killed by Grima and aiding them in eliminating the Fell Draogn. In this story, we also see that Robin of the Future Past timeline has been trying to fight off Grima's control of him and even uses the last of his strength and will to warp Chrom and his forces back to their time since he does not want to kill him again. And in his last moments, he uses his will to prevent Grima from fighting back, allowing Lucina to put an end to him once and for all.
So yeah, we can confidently say they pass the admirable standards big time.
Final Verdict
A big yes to these two.
