When the gym teacher says even his grandma is stronger than you, this is what he means.
Yes I kid you not. You aren’t seeing things. I think an actual character from The Boys can count.
Isn’t it just amazing when a random one-shot old lady absolutely obliterates the Admirable Standards? Presenting the character who literally sacrificed herself to fight cancer.
What’s the work?
We all have heard of The Boys. It’s about corrupt fame hungry superheroes using their powers irresponsibly and our powerless heroes must stop them. The superheroes are controlled by a company called Vought.
It has an animated canon spinoff show called The Boys Present: Diabolocial that has a bunch of side stories for side characters, one being episode 7, "John and Sun-Hee", which features a man named John wanting to save his wife and injecting her with Compound V.
Who is Sun-Hee?
SELF-PLAIGARISM POWERS ACTIVATE
SunHee Battles Cancer - The Boys- Diabolical
Sun-Hee is the deuteragonist of the episode and wife of John, a janitor for Vought. Things would take a turn when her pancreatic cancer would have her end up in the hospital. John would dose her with Compound V to save her however, which would work, but cause her to have a sentient blue tumor grow and attack multiple Vought Employees trying to kill her in the hospital (one trying to smother her to death to make it look like an accident.)
Her and John escape using an ambulance car. Sun-Hee is in clear pain and asks John to pull over the car. When she gets out, her tumor escapes her body and begins to eat all the wildlife. When soldiers show up, it begins to attack the soldiers.

Sun-Hee battles Cancer
They escape once more and John wants to leave but Sun-Hee demands that they stay and stop the tumor (believing it is their responsibility), despite John wanting to spend more time with her. John manages to damage it with a taser gun, then Sun-Hee empowers herself and sacrificing herself to take out the tumor. Before dying, she tells John to take care of himself and wants him to move on and live a happy life without her..
Corrupting Factors
One of the reasons it is basically impossible to have a candidate for this series as it is South Park/SML/Happy Tree Friends levels of violent satire and pretty much every character, citizen or “superhero” has corrupting factors like ego, greed, lust and/or more and has purposefully murdered someone. Even the most kind Hughie and Starlight could have issues qualifying but Sun-Hee might be the only exception.
Sun-Hee is a completely selfless woman who cares more about the lives of everyone around her than her own (even Vought scientists trying to kill her and her husband) doing everything in her power to stop her tumor, even giving up her life to end it. Although her powers do attack soldiers threatening her, it is very clear this isn’t in her control and she is immensely regretful of what her powers do. Even then she does her best to stop her powers. You could say it’s like the Octopus Guy from Marvel.
Admirable Standards
The admirable standard isn’t really that high, especially for a superhero franchise, since most people are corrupt individuals. For competition:
- Billy, Hughie and a few others can stand out because they regularly fight against supervillains, helping that Billy and Hughie have done heroic feats with no resources like killing Translucent while trying to stop Homelander, Soldier Boy and others.
- Queen Maeve used her superhero powers to help the Boys from time to time
- Marie Moreau from Gen V also helped stop a college riot that killed dozens and saved a life in a bar, while also playing a part in freeing prisoners from Indira Shetty.
- A-Train helped steal from Homelander to let Hughie save his father.
- The Deep has saved countless wildlife (tho constantly screws it up.)
I think Sun-Hee stands out tho. First is resources. For most of her life she had been a sickly old woman and only had access to superpowers for the last hour or so of her life, that she barely even knew how to control. She also has very low screentime, only her husband as an ally and only appears in a 15 minute special, during which she only knew how to fully use her powers for one brief moments. Most other more admirable characters have Supe powers or high-ranking authority.

The Cancer she defeated would’ve only grown and did this to many more people and creatures. Bravo grandma!
Even ignoring resources I think Sun-Hee might possibly be the most admirable character in the show. The tumor she sacrificed her life was a very huge threat that endangered multiple lives and would’ve continued to grow more. It’s not exactly made clear how many lives she would have saved but she destroyed a cancer that goes around eating everything and rapidly grew to a giant size and would only grow until possible infinity and slowly and painfully devour innocent lives it came accross. Despite that, she gave up her life to stop it. By scale, she saved god knows how many lives including wildlife. It’s even pointed out in-universe this tumor could go on to kill several people.
Verdict
Maybe my weirdest candidate but yes. Despite being a one-shot character, she saved likely very many life’s from a man-eating cancer cell and has zero corrupting factors despite the show she is in.
