All right, I’m turning to a very excellent animated movie that I’ve watched in theatres and discussed with Zerukin much recently, which would very well be the mentor of one of the main characters that has a chance to get the Green Lock.

What Is the Work?

The Wild Robot is a 2024 animated film produced by DreamWorks Animation based on the 2016 novel of the same name by Peter Brown, about ROZZUM unit 7143, also known as Roz, a robot which washes ashore on a remote island and is activated by the local wildlife and takes care of a runt goose named Brightbill after accidentally crushing his nest.

Who Is He and What Did He Do?

Longneck was an elderly Canada goose who served as the mentor to Roz's goose Brightbill and was the oldest leader of the island's goose flock. He was first seen telling Roz to not give up on Brightbill when she took him to the geese and agreed to take him under his literal wing, leading to her to hire the peregrine falcon Thunderbolt to teach him how to fly. Just as the geese leave for migration, Brightbill finally gets a hold of flying and departs with the rest including Longneck, who makes him the next leader of the flock.

A thunderstorm then threatened the flock, forcing them to shelter at a Universal Dynamics greenhouse, where they braved attacks from the hostile RECO robots. Since Brightbill was no longer scared of the robots, Longneck tells him to lead the rest of the flock to safety and create an opening for them to exit before he sacrificed himself to a bullet aimed at Brightbill to hold off the robots, allowing Brightbill’s efforts to be finally recognised by his fellow geese.

Admirable Standard

Longneck mainly passes the standard for watching Roz's progress on taking care of Brightbill and advising her to not give up on him, as well as sacrificing his life to ensure the other geese, led by Brightbill would escape the Universal Dynamics greenhouse alive. The other competition he has at this point simply amounts to Brightbill himself who himself led the flock out of the greenhouse safely knowing that ROZZUM units normally cannot hurt other lifeforms, as well as risking his life to try to save Roz from being memory wiped by Vontra by attacking her ship. However, Longneck ultimately gets a chance to stand out due to his lower presence in the story, in addition to having more experience in flying than Brightbill, making them ultimately incomparable at least.

Corrupting Factors

There is nothing from Longneck that brings into mind corrupting factors, and this is also helped by the fact that the animals are revealed to be partially sapient throughout the narrative, speaking normally mainly through Roz's perspective.

Verdict

Short and simple, Longneck would be a keeper.
