What's The Work?
Barnyard is a 2006 American computer-animated comedy film produced by Nickelodeon Movies and O Entertainment and distributed by Paramount Pictures, and the first installment in the franchise of the same name. It tells the story of Otis, a carefree cow who learns the value of responsibility when he becomes the leader of his farmhouse community after his adoptive father dies from a coyote attack.
Who is the Candidate/What Have They Done?
Our candidate today, a carefree bull named Otis, loves to have fun, hum a cool song, ride a surfboard or just dance.
All the animals in the barnyard lead a secret life from people, including the farmer himself. The barnyard is run by Otis's foster dad – the patriarch bull Ben and the elderly humorist mule Miles. While they keep order in the barnyard, Otis and his "gang of thugs" – mouse Pip, ferret Freddy, rooster Peck and Pig – are always somewhere missing!
But there come days when Ben is forced to protect his yard from coyotes led by the cunning Dag. One day Dag brings his gang, and the coyotes kill Ben. Dying, Ben entrusted all his strength and responsibility for the yard to Otis.
Otis is having a hard time, but a cute cow named Daisy, who was just brought in by the farmer, tries to cheer him up.
Otis starts hunting Dag and wants to get revenge on him once and for all. To do this, he gathers a gang of Jersey cows: Eddie, Igg, and Bud, as well as Pip, Freddie, Peck, Pig, and Miles. In the end, Otis drives Dag and his gang away forever. And he becomes a local authority.
Corrupting Factors
It's hard to blame Otis for having fun. Everyone has fun (but everyone has their own fun). However, Otis' fun went too far. Because of Otis' fun, his adoptive father Ben died, unable to withstand a fight with coyotes. And although the coyote leader Dag is more to blame, if Otis had been more responsible, Ben would still be alive, which is repeatedly highlighted even by Dag himself. However, Otis later becomes more responsible and defeats Dag, which even Ben could not do.
Admirable Standard
I think Otis has a lot to offer. He, like his father, constantly protects the farm, including from the cruel coyote Dag and his ferocious gang. He cares about every farmer, and although he often makes mistakes (especially in the series), he does everything to correct them. In the end, he defeats Dag, whom his father Ben could not defeat.
Final Verdict
Huge and tentative Yes to him.
