Yuzu and Lime Reflector Forms

14th and 15th Proposal. So, I've been thinking of another candidate and this time it's from Blue Reflection, one of Gust's series (which of course you might know from their Atelier and Nights of Azure series). With that said, let's begin.

What is the Work?

Blue Reflection is a video game series created by Gust (same company behind the Atelier and Nights of Azure franchise) and published by Koei Tecmo, which spawned two games including Tie/Second Light and Sun and an anime spin-off/tie-in Ray.

It focuses on Hinako Shirai, a former ballet dancer whose career was cut short after an injury, leading her to be unable to dance. Depressed, she becomes a student at Hoshinomiya Girls High School with a listless future, until she meets up the mysterious sisters Yuzuki and Lime Shijou, where she becomes a magical girl known as a "Reflector" in her attempt to fulfil her own wish of being able to go back dancing again. Other works in the franchise including Ray, Tie, and Sun focus on a different protagonist.

Who Are They? What Have They Done?

Yuzuki and Lime Shijou are the two deuteragonists of the Blue Reflection franchise.

They are a pair of mysterious sisters whom Hinako Shirai firstly met in Hoshinomiya as they both gave her a Reflector ring that allows her to become a Reflector, protectors of the Common, in order to fend off the threat of the Sephirot, then to other threats including the Rouge Reflectors and the World System. Due to this, they are majorly responsible for the events of the series.

Goodness Zone/Admirable Standards

While Daath did have admirable acts of his own as he protected the world from his fellow rogue Sephirot and ensuring humanity will stay long to survive and evolve, as well as creating the Common to which Yuzu and Lime remained there, who were dead in the past before being allowed to give a second life, he is leagues more powerful than the Shijou sisters as he is a Sephirot with access to godly powers, things that both Yuzuki and Lime clearly lack, so he is far too incomparable to both the sisters in terms of resourceful capability and overall resources.

Both Yuzuki and Lime themselves have a lot of admirable acts on their plate, being that they are the Guardians of the Common, and each of them are crucial than the last as they both played a vital role in each one of them within their screentime:

  • Being the Guardians of the Common, they not only protect the namesake world and the nexus points from the rogue Sephirot even before Hinako became a Reflector, but in Ray they also protect it from Shino Mizusaki's Rouge Reflectors by aiding Hiori Hirahara, with Shino wanting to twist the whole world into her perverse vision where emotionless is a thing. It is to a point that they are considered the last line of defence within the Common.
  • By giving Hinako a Reflector Ring in the first game to fulfil her wish of being able to dance again, both the sisters are responsible for carving Hinako's path of being a Reflector to stop the greater threat of the Sephirot from attacking Hoshinomiya and the greater world at large. Similarly, by giving the others Support Rings the other girls were able to aid the Reflector trio in stopping the Sephirot.
  • After the shocking reveal that both sisters have been dead all along, and with Hinako going on a momentary slump following the rematch with Yesod due to not wanting to lose Yuzu and Lime, both sisters decided to hang out with her in order to give her the spirit again to fight and with her ensuring that she can move on from the implications of their revelatory nature. This is crucial as had it not for their positive efforts of reassurance Hinako would never be able to go back becoming a Reflector again and would cling to her belief of not wanting to lose the sisters, thus giving the other rogue Sephirot an opening to destroy the world.
  • After the Common was destroyed by the World System, they are also responsible for creating Oasis, a paradise for Reflectors, in response to the Ash catastrophe during Ray, which is caused by the World System, that injured and killed many including Yuki Kinjou, who died from Ash Syndrome, thus allowing them to protect the Reflectors from further harm from the Ash's debilitating effects, at the expense of Yuzu losing her emotions and with Lime being put to a comatose. Due to this, the sisters are also responsible for recruiting Ao Hoshizaki, Kokoro Utsubo, Hiori Hirahara, Rena Miyauchi, Hinako Shirai, Shiho Kasuga, Uta Komagawa, Mio Hirahara, and Yuki Kinjou. Thus had it not for the sisters' actions, the World System, who is an omnicidal maniac, would not be stopped for good and would have wiped out humanity completely with the Ash; in addition had it not for the sisters, Ao and her group of Reflectors would not be able to retrieve Yuzu's emotions and awaken Lime from a coma.

Corrupting Factors

General

So there's one potential argument where both sisters deceived Hinako about her granting her own wish of being able to dance again once she defeats the Sephirot. However, this is not a corrupting factor, as they have an understandable reason to do so. For one, they are dead and were revived thanks to the Common, which is a big deal since the sisters themselves revealed to Hinako that once the Sephirot are finally defeated, both of them will vanish and go back to the afterlife; remember that Hinako did not take the news well during the rematch with Yesod much later in the game, and both sisters had to reassure her to put her back into fighting spirits again once they finished hanging out with her, so this is less of a corrupting factor and more of a heating-up moment.

Second, Hinako also forgave them for the said deception as well, so it ultimately prevents this from being a corrupting factor. Not to mention Hinako would join in with the sisters to stop Daath, thus culminating in Hinako attaining her wish to retain their memories.

Yuzuki

An easy one since she's the most pure-hearted character in the series, so there is no corrupting about her. Even after she lost her emotions following the events of Tie, it was because of the Ash's effects and basically regained back later on.

Lime

Tricky, but not impossible. Yes, while Lime did have some issues like caring about her cause more than others, they are NOT corrupting but rather a heating-up moment. This is understandable as being the Guardian of the Common, not to mention being a protector where world-ending abominations are at world's throat, is a big responsibility itself.

Another argument would be why she stoked the emotions of others including Chihiro Inoue and also Mao Ninagawa just to get their Fragments to stop the Sephirot. Again, it is clarified in-universe that the ONLY way to get their Fragments is through sorting out their emotions by visiting the Zones that their respective emotions have (Fear, Zone, Anger, and Joy). In essence, it is considered the only other option to save the world and stop the Sephirot from actively threatening the world at large. Similarly, those are only one-off heating-up moments so it cannot be considered corrupting in a sense, as those girls would later join in to support the trio themselves in their battle against the Sephirot. Not to mention Lime sheds these upon the reveal that she and Yuzu are dead, as well as doing the same thing at the end of the game after Hinako forgave them.

Final Verdict

Yes to both.
